Will you pre-order the next DLC? I will... and that's why:

First of all, I'm not talking to either game bashers or white knights, but instead to rational people that like more or less what they have and want more and/or better.

Maybe tomorrow, maybe after 3 months Frontier will announce the next paid DLC for Elite... If pre-order is available, would you do it or not? I will, and that's why:

Generally speaking, I rarely pre-order any game and, like CMDR Exigeous was saying in a stream, "pre-ordering software is stupid", I have to admit.

But in this particular case, I would make an exception and not because of my eternal love for the game, but for more tangible benefits.

At this point in time, I believe that although Frontier did their homework assessing the potential of a new paid DLC and creating a state of "favorable expectation" for the player base by choosing to make Beyond first, they still don't know for sure how (financially) successful the new DLC will be. And this will generate a potential problem, in terms of the actual content, directly proportional with the commitment of the resources.

TL,DR, Horizon was not 100% what they (and we) expected and they don't want to make the same mistake twice. So, by pre-ordering the new DLC in good quantities, we, the players, may be able to assure that the content for the future DLC won't be scaled down or rushed, or let in the hands of the (no offense) B team.

It will be a clear message, like "Go on, make it 100%, we'll buy it no matter what" or something beyond those lines. What do you think?

I pre-ordered all of them in 2015.

By and large, I still think pre-orders are silly, and having to front money to expect a good product is even worse.

Do I regret my prior purchases? No, I realized there was an element of risk at the time and I did wait until there was a product to play. However, in hindsight, I probably would not repeat the process.

Dunno, probably. Depends on what they offer and for how much. I know that it'll be better value sooner than later, but that doesn't mean I'll have the cash ready for it.

Without hesitation, I've got incredible value out of the £70 I paid for the current games especially compared to a console game like Halo (my favourite FPS) at £40 and finished in a few weeks.

2 of my accounts hve lifetime paces, the 3rd needs to purchase.
Currently BGS is broken and I just took an asp to ice rings for core mining, not one core in 32 prospects limpets. So at this point, will not pre-order. Probably change my mind when I stop feeling like a 4 year old.

:D Yeah, I'll pre order. I get the new content from D-day, I support the company's efforts and I encourage FD to continue allocating resources to Elite. There aren't many down sides to doing it. It's more expensive? A little less than the price of a AAA game isn't a huge expense for me, although I appreciate not everyone is that fortunate. Even so, my buying in early benefits players unable to do so- it'll allow FD to drop prices further down the line. It's all good.

Not sure if I fall into one of the disqualified tribes there, but no, I'm not pre-ordering. Not for the reason some might think, though. It is because I already have.

Its too early. I'll wait and see what's supposed to be in the next DLC then decide to pre-order or not.

If they give an exclusive ship, sure. :p Else I see little point in it, it is not as if it will be 'sold out' on release.

Nope won't preorder

1) I have no idea if the dlc will be of any interest to me, for example if its all combat orientated I won't bother buying at all

2) Once they have your money they have no incentive to produce something worth buying and can serve up any old crap

If it's space legs or Atmo landings....then there's a good chance I will (after checking out preview vids and info 1st!). Anything else, nope.

Well, as a non-leper, I will buy it, guaranteed! Damn you, lepers & your prodigious potential savings (~20p per week by generous estimates[yesnod]); & to think, I could have taken early retirement...

If one were to read my post history, one might think that I'm a doom-monger or naysayer - or "doom-sayer" (sic) as I've seen on this forum...oh, you guys! [squeeeee] - but on the contrary, I absolutely love this game...hence I'm still here (albeit sporadically, these days) almost 4 years later. It's just that I'm an inveterate pee-ripper or 'threadripper', if you will & Frontier make so many hilarious, nay bizarre design decisions that there really is simply too much ammunition to ignore (which is somewhat ironic when viewed from an in-game standpoint).

...& then there's Frontier's blinkered myopic enthusiasts (*cough* fan-boys) - ahhh, that strange bunch who tug their forelocks in obsequious servitude to a limited company (Really?! I don't behave like that when anyone says they hate BMWs!) & habitually acquiesce to any old substandard crap they are given, in the fallacious belief that they are supporting & nourishing the game when in reality they are undermining it - well, it really would be remiss of me not to tear them a new one each, don't you think?! & all this notwithstanding often expedient, arbitrary moderation that differentiates prejudicially between an already rude & arrogant disposition in discourse & a legitimate response with even-handed, next-level, biting sarcasm or indeed, that has an apparent inability to differentiate between the subject of a joke & the target of said joke.

Where was I? Oh yes...underlying the acerbic comments is a genuine admiration for what Frontier have done; certainly with respect to the industry-leading sound design, aesthetics & flight model...I just can't imagine improving on those significantly. I have a Star Citizen Aurora package (I came sooo close to buying the Hornet Ghost for ~£120 iirc - 'Bullet dodged there, methinks!) & X4, but 'still gravitate to Elite whenever I have some precious spare time. NMS is of course, a great big "NOPE!" due to its "Scooby Doo graphics".

In conclusion, bring it on, Frontier...lets hope you have atmospheric landings &/or 'limited' (with no FPS) space legs lined up for the next iteration.

at the risk of missing out on the next Cobra mk4 I think I'll wait until I can see the product I'm asked to spend money on and not just blindly hand over cash early, pay a premium, and buy something sight unseen.

I have done my pre-order ( for lifetime of Elite: Dangerous ) long time ago, this is THE Game, for me and my son, also some of friends did it in time :)

Well, I helped them to decide a bit :p

I haven't regret a bit.
