Will you pre-order the next DLC? I will... and that's why:

Yes, because I'm a parasite who likes ticking off the self-righteous.

Depends on what I get for pre-ordering. A price cut, a new ship, early access etc.

I'm not going to pre-order just because.

First of all, I'm not talking to either game bashers or white knights, but instead to rational people that like more or less what they have and want more and/or better.

Maybe tomorrow, maybe after 3 months Frontier will announce the next paid DLC for Elite... If pre-order is available, would you do it or not? I will, and that's why:

Generally speaking, I rarely pre-order any game and, like CMDR Exigeous was saying in a stream, "pre-ordering software is stupid", I have to admit.

But in this particular case, I would make an exception and not because of my eternal love for the game, but for more tangible benefits.

At this point in time, I believe that although Frontier did their homework assessing the potential of a new paid DLC and creating a state of "favorable expectation" for the player base by choosing to make Beyond first, they still don't know for sure how (financially) successful the new DLC will be. And this will generate a potential problem, in terms of the actual content, directly proportional with the commitment of the resources.

TL,DR, Horizon was not 100% what they (and we) expected and they don't want to make the same mistake twice. So, by pre-ordering the new DLC in good quantities, we, the players, may be able to assure that the content for the future DLC won't be scaled down or rushed, or let in the hands of the (no offense) B team.

It will be a clear message, like "Go on, make it 100%, we'll buy it no matter what" or something beyond those lines. What do you think?
Usually a pre-order comes with an incentive bonus in the form of ingame items or discounted price. It's true with most all games. If those are appealing, then sure why not. Pre-order just because some DLC is coming out? I've never done that, regardless of how much I like a game.

Do. I made the move from 960 to 1060 and my goodness is it amazing.

Yeah it's on my watch list. I don't play that many games but I do play a lot of Elite and if I'm going to do so it has to be at top whack. I still get 60fps in most situations but maybe the next release will result in a bump in spec. Will see first...

If Pre-ordering is cheaper to account for the inevitable bug infestation at release then I will definitely do so.

The next question is how much would you pay?

£40?
£50?
Would you pay £80 for space legs and atmospheric landings?

Will you pre-order the next DLC?

I want to own everything that truly expands and improves the ED universe.
I already have the LEP, so I'm good.

In general Pre-ordering is not my thing. Why should I pre-order? The game industry hardly ever offers anything worthwhile for pre-ordering games. There is no reason to pre-order.

I would pay extra for an offline solo version of the game, let's say a hundred bucks (I'm prepared to offer more :)).

I think your logic is flawed OP because you seem to suggest that a higher number of pre-orders will incentivise Frontier into making the next expansion better in some way. I don't think it works that way... they will have a plan and try to execute that plan for the next expansion. Its success financially will dictate the successive expansions not the current one and you won't swing that through pre-orders.

You don't ever invest in a computer game you pay to consume it.

LEP pass holder here. So i already did so, and do not regret it.

I mean, i play for some time almost every day. I do so as i still have fun. (If you join some discord channels, you could believe that the game is pure torture and playing it is worse than self-castigation... but as long as i avoid those and just play, it's fun. ) Considering how much time i already spent in the game and how much fun i had, even the cost for the LEP already has payd itself off. Especially when looking at other games, often also with good reviews, how much they have cost and how much they have entertained me, ED wins.

So whatever the next expansion is, I am optimistic. As long as they don't break the base game, any addition is fine for me. :D

Dunno if i will pre-order. Not because i am afraid of what the next big one will bring, but rather because i rarely do that in general. Rest assured though, it will be bought the second it comes out.

If the next DLC is various atmospheric planets inc. Ammonia, Liquid, lava, gas giants and basic (ie no life) worlds and pre ordering gets it to you sooner and it cost £45, then yea, probably.

If it's a Mars type addon only then no.

Plus, none of this... 'Ice worlds gonna be upgraded - er, actually we changed our minds, it's coming SoonTM'. Like, where's the Scatter Rock tech they said was coming, they didn't mention that wasn't coming out in 3.3, just the ice world changes had been delayed.

2 of my accounts hve lifetime paces, the 3rd needs to purchase.
Currently BGS is broken and I just took an asp to ice rings for core mining, not one core in 32 prospects limpets. So at this point, will not pre-order. Probably change my mind when I stop feeling like a 4 year old.

Simon

You need to look for fissure cracks on the roid before wasting your prospect limpets. They are pretty easy to spot, especially if you have night vision on. Finding the right roid can take a little time, but man..is it profitable. Last night I went from 72 million to 119 million in one session of core mining, with a 96 (ton?) cargo hold on an Asp explorer. Helps that the one area I really enjoy in this game are the ring systems, and since that lighting patch they look pretty amazing.

As for pre-ordering...by default, no. From what i've seen of development over the years since release I can't fathom why I would leap at it. They would have to show before its release that it was worth considering, imo.

So, by pre-ordering the new DLC in good quantities, we, the players, may be able to assure that the content for the future DLC won't be scaled down or rushed, or let in the hands of the (no offense) B team.

The only thing these players will assure is positive cashflow for the studio.

We don't know anything about the next DLC. All we know is that FD are moving away from the "season" path that they had until now.

I most likely won't be preordering, but never say never. I'll wait to see what's on offer and what they want for it. ED is no longer the only fish in the sea, so to speak and there'll most certainly be more in the near future.

I will not pre-order anything. Simple principle. Promises are not worth money, no matter how reliable the source of the promise may be. If I want to invest into a company, I'd go the high finance way. Gives me more legal security. Don't have that kind of money, though.
