Will you pre-order the next DLC? I will... and that's why:

Not a chance!

Any company that drops a release before Christmas, and then marches off on their holidays, leaving players unable to play, deserve nothing but contempt.

Even when you can login, it's buggy, and throws glitches for 20-30 seconds again, rendering it unplayable.

Thankfully, NMS had no such problems.

First of all, I'm not talking to either game bashers or white knights, but instead to rational people that like more or less what they have and want more and/or better.

Maybe tomorrow, maybe after 3 months Frontier will announce the next paid DLC for Elite... If pre-order is available, would you do it or not? I will, and that's why:

Generally speaking, I rarely pre-order any game and, like CMDR Exigeous was saying in a stream, "pre-ordering software is stupid", I have to admit.

But in this particular case, I would make an exception and not because of my eternal love for the game, but for more tangible benefits.

At this point in time, I believe that although Frontier did their homework assessing the potential of a new paid DLC and creating a state of "favorable expectation" for the player base by choosing to make Beyond first, they still don't know for sure how (financially) successful the new DLC will be. And this will generate a potential problem, in terms of the actual content, directly proportional with the commitment of the resources.

TL,DR, Horizon was not 100% what they (and we) expected and they don't want to make the same mistake twice. So, by pre-ordering the new DLC in good quantities, we, the players, may be able to assure that the content for the future DLC won't be scaled down or rushed, or let in the hands of the (no offense) B team.

It will be a clear message, like "Go on, make it 100%, we'll buy it no matter what" or something beyond those lines. What do you think?

i already pre-ordered in 2013 ;) however had i not have then yes i would. Even tho there is a lot i do not like in ED, and there is a lot missing, there is also a hell of a lot I DO like, and i can only hope that a new DLC will reduce the size of the list of things which are missing.

In general however I totally support the logic of DONT BUY ON RELEASE! (and so never pre-order). I think it is sound advice and something i always reccomend people do. ED however is for me the exception which proves the rule. I do not expect the average gamer to be as big an ED fanboy as i am however which is why in this 1 case i do not take my own advice.

PS RE Preorder bonuses... please god i hope FD learned their lesson and it is a big NO for exclusive ships.

ship skins, bobble heads, CMDR Space suits and ship kits, sure, what ever... but i really hope FD keep all bonuses as cosmetic stuff only going forward. the cobra IV was a real clustermess imo and i personally would love it if they made it available to all and just gave us current owners an exclusive ship kit and ship skin for it as a thankyou.

I won't pre-order anything. I do believe that Frontier will deliver good content in the fututre and I don't see the need to pre-order, because why? The product won't run out of stock, will it? And Frontier is not short on money or anything. If the announcements are promising I will buy at full price. If announced content isn't anything I was particularly waiting for maybe I'll wait for some sale.

I am not so overhyped anymore to shut off reason completly. I still like the game and will most probably buy most of future content for a reasonale price and for a finshed product (maybe after first reviews).

Pay when it's out for my second account (still not active thank you very much).

Luckily being an early backer I can assess the new stuff before cash is parted with.

I honestly want this game to thrive but they have to make the big stuff happen now!

If I wouldn't own the LEP already I would preorder it. I never do this with other games, but for Elite it's something different. I am in for the whole experience.

Unplayable? You must be playing a different game to me, I have been playing all over the holiday with no problems apart from the occasional freeze which rectifies itself after a few seconds.

Yeh they screwed this up totally.
Launch needed to be 4-6 weeks before the offices shut down for crimbo to allow for patching.
Gotta wonder if they can absorb and learn from their launches.

Looking at the development direction since release I won't be preordering.
ED was the only game I backed and then preordered (horizons).

Ill await some lets plays and the inevitable bug fixes/balance pass updates a'fore I hand over any more cash.

Sorry David, you have enough cash for now :)

FDev somewhat did, by not updating on Thursdays anymore. Bugs on launch had to be expected, but the freezes and bugs in the new mechanics weren't even solved a week after. Is a bit of a let down. but at least special offers were purchasable in the store.

@Topic: No, I won't do it anymore.

I hate how the term "white knight" has been hijacked in recent years to mean something bad, but back to the question: for me it depends on how much I want the new content and what incentives there are to pre-order.

Careful what you wish for babelfisch, because it CAN get worse.

Well if white knights didn't blindly support and actively attack those who clearly have legitimate complaints, they might not have EARNED the reputation they now have.

Several more pages on and still mostly a "no" for preorders with a predominant "lets just see what they do first".

I hope someone at FDev is paying attention to this thread.

Unless it has an attractive discount, probably not. I won't usually pre-order anything and I think that following the endless Cobra Mk4 bawww threads it's safe to assume there won't be any sweeteners in terms of content included, so it's going to depend on whether making it a tenner cheaper or whatever reduces the price to the point where I can afford to not really care whether it's any good or not. Otherwise, I'll do what I do with most games; wait for release, check out some gameplay videos and opinion on here and reddit and then make a decision.

No, Elite Dangerous is a product like any other. If it's not cost effective, then Frontier won't do it.

Not sure what you are trying to say. If releasing a DLC is not cost effective they will obviously not do it. We already know that they are working on the next paid DLC since quite some time though.
