Finally (after just under 1,500 hours in) got my first Elite (Exploration) on Saturday!

07 Outstanding work!

On my way the Elite Exploration ranking myself, but won't have anything to add like your list of actual new discoveries! Heading now to map a system that I was the first to 'Discover' this time last year, so maybe Pioneer when I get back... Ranger 87% currently & 6Klys-round-trip of DDS-level scans to cash in. I won't make it to Elite, but I'll certainly be closer :)

Let me join the masses and Congratulate you too :D
I just reached my first Elite recently too,Exploration too ! See you at Jameson's Memorial :D

That's an impressive list of accomplishments.

Indeed! I reached Elite rank in exploration ages ago, but my brand of exploration is far more mercenary and banal. Just putting claims on as many and as valuable worlds as possible. Sometimes even using the Sirius Corporation's perk to triple the profits. I guess that's what the Pilot's Federation values most. I have always been particular for mapping the systems whole where feasible, and that may still benefit the community in the future in some small way.

If anyone wants to know more about anything I've mentioned, then I'm happy to provide more info.

I've been exploring around the area of Col 70 too and would love to get to Gamma Velorum. In your opinion is there something left worth discovering in this region or are we waiting for some episodic release from Frontier?

Congrats on the Elite rank and the journey to earn it.

Congrats on your first elite rank. And congrats on the discoveries and contributions.
Apologies for the delayed reply, and thank you! I do wish I some things could have been pushed out to other people in game. I played for months without any out of game resources, and player submitted galnet articles were something which made a big difference to what I was aware of in game. There's things which I would have liked to have similarly passed on to other players, but all that stuff coincided with player submitted galnet articles were put on hold. (I'd better just say that while it's a shame that they had to be put on hold, I can understand why FD had to do it.)

Anyway, cheers again! o7

Thank you very much cmdr!

Something that's made a huge difference has been being part of various threads and sections of the forum. A lot of that stuff wouldn't normally make it over to wider parts of the playerbase, which is part of the reason for posting this stuff in Dangerous Discussions rather than the normal locations.

How's the trip going? It's only a week or so, but I hope it's all going well, and am looking forward to being able to congratulate you on your own Exploration Elite! o7

Thank you Cmdr, and a bit congratulations to you too on your Exploration Elite! And yeah, see you at Jameson's (if I ever get round to paying it a visit! :) )! o7

Seems an awful long time for so many I-was-Firsts.

I made Elite Explorer quite some time ago, and purely by accident. Happened on my way back from the Guardian Ruins. Was already Elite in Trade, so didn’t need it. Going to get Combat some day too... 98% Deadly if I recall. Will probably never get CQC unless NPC’s are added, there’s never anyone there.

Thanks!

And yes, the PF does only seem to value certain things. I've always suspected that they've gone the same way over time as many many other organisations which are started by a group for the benefit of themselves, their peers and compatriots...

But mapping whole systems has definitely been a worthwhile endeavour regardless, and with data on discovered bodies finally being much more opened up, I'd say that those efforts to fully map systems will now definitely start to benefit the community as a whole. So thank you, cmdr! o7

Well done fella - Proper achievement that

I also wish that passenger missions were not included - I got my Elite exploration two days ago but a chunk of that was due to a sightseeing spot I found on the edge of the bubble that I used as a money maker early in this save (my only credit here is that at least it was something I found myself - not any of the publicised ones)

Got the final push to Elite after spending the last week trying to find anything biological in the Rift.... less life out there than a Tory party conference

Thank you!

On the Col 70 and Gamma Velorum front, I'd say yes, there's still things left to discover. However, I think much of that is in the form of information. There's undoubtedly some as yet undiscovered Guardian sites around, but I'm talking the existing types there. There's also some pretty substantial things which are as yet unsolved with the Guardian sites which have been there since the first Ancient Ruins was found. Whether there is anything which is going to be a new single location which is some kind of revelatory discovery is a different matter altogether.

There's naturally going to be some form of release from FD involved at some points, but my advice would be that there's a lot more to be got from things if they are instead viewed from an in game perspective, particularly with things like the Permit Locked regions. They're not there for no reason... ;)
