What were your top 3 favorite updates in the history of Elite Dangerous so far and why?

Interesting that "Engineers" does get some love - after the fallout over the "Randomgate" I expected that update to be as unpopular as "CQC" and "Powerplay"...

The "Horizons" season must have been awesome for you :D

The first half of it yeah, I did enjoy it quite a lot.

While I do think the buffs to weapons and defences were far too extreme and created a balance nightmare which is impossible to solve, that aside I do like the engineers quite a lot.

- New awesome locations with unique purposes. I wish there were more unique locations with unique purposes. I once had a dream about all the space installations would become dockable and serve as hubs to special kinds of missions or activities. That dream has since crashed and shattered.
- Ship upgrades. Everybody loves ship upgrades.
- Customization. Everybody loves customization.
- I do find gathering materials as a side activity cool. But then again I'm not obsessed with "need all top spec stuff NAO", so that might help.
- MOAR SPEEEEED
- Bigger jump range. I do think jump ranges are in a good place now. Quick for 98% of cases, without trivializing the size of the galaxy.

I cannot remember the update numbers but my favourites so far were the ones that fixed the jolting supercruise juddering, nauseating screen shaking and the disgusting beige planets !

1. Up until the most recent changes, the graphics, especially in VR.
2. Wings, its good fun, you can take on bigger and tougher ships than on your own. And it's somebody to talk to.
3. The old Advanced Discovery scanner... Pre 3.3, it was just what you needed. New one is %:) +==%!... Not good!

Yeah, well, I didn't mean "Which features do you like best?", but "Which (major) updates e.g. releases did you like best?"

* Wings (Wings and Powerplay)
* Planetary Landings (Landing on Planets.. dooh; exlude engineers and multicrew, the two worst things in game imho)
* Beyond (Trading/Squadrons/Exploration/Mining)

special mention: Asteroid Bases and Thargoid (formerly known as "unknown") Structures

1) the version that allowed us to plot over 100LY distance.
2) the version that introduced the Vulture
3) ?

1. Planetary Landing - it’s pointless to have planets in a space game if you can’t land on them, and prior to this being added, I just looked at Elite and moved on.

2. Guardians - Planetary Landing now with an ancient aercheological puzzle to solve! Even better!

3. Beyond - it was almost all of what’s been missing. Still a few pieces to add, but they take time.

1. 2.1 engineers, because I just love tinkering with ship builds and building precision machines to a purpose. Engineers opened a new world of that.

2. 3.3 beyond chapter 4, night vision ! much improved exploration.

3. 1.1 community goals, short term targets to pursue with a deadline, though rewards were a lot more creative back at the start than they are now.

honorable mention: 1.7 module storage, engineers wouldn't work without that.

3.4. You know the one where they fix the connectivity issues, the freezes, and the borked BGS. And a myriad of accumulated bugs and non-sensical functionality.

I couldn't agree more. A while back it was mentioned that FD was working on expanding upon the features of those additional locations like capital shipyards or installations imported from CQC and I was so much hoping they would make them into dockable stations with some restrictions on services but with dangerous combat gameplay directly around them. Still sad we can't dock at those installations. It would feel much more natural if they weren't just beautiful backdrops for pirate hunting etc. but would actually feel like stations. Right now it feel very contrived that those locations act merely for pew pew and mini scenarios like stealing data or breaking hatches. They should really combine these activities with normal station gameplay...

Nice to read someone actually enjoyed Engineers! They got a lot of hate after their release for the initial RNG implementation, but they obviously added a lot to the game when looking at them now, after the dust has settled.

That would actually be 2.1, wouldn't it?

If we're allowed to comment on other people's choices, then: Boo! Hiss!

2.1 broke it. Quite a few G5 materials were suddenly not available anymore, because the mission reward tables were borked. Or was that 2.2 ? Memory hazy.

No. 1. - 1.0 Initial release.
No. 2. - 2.0 Planetary Landings.

There is no 3 yet. Proper Exploration and Mining should have been in it from the start, along with Thargoids. YMMV

1. Planet landing,
2. Engineers 2.0 and
3. New exploration tools.

The new mining should also be honourably mentioned.
