gamma guestimation?

i got the saitek x45 hotas waaay sooner than i thought, was expecting it to take at LEAST a week to ship from the ebay seller, took 2 days max(darn you ebay seller and youre speedy shipment) now its even harder not to buy into the beta.

Any guestimation when Gamma is happening?

Gamma wont be happening until near end-2014 (so I've heard)
But personally, I don't expect it until sometime near beginning of 2015.

The extra £15 to get into the beta is worth it anyway, the £50 gets you into beta and a copy of the released game, so if you're that excited to get in, I recommend just going for it now.

ah, Games here are usually somewhere between £40-£60, so £50 for beta + released game is a pretty good deal, not sure if that's the same thing in US.

I reckon that the gamma will be relatively short, while there is still a fair amount to do in beta, not least balancing the kickstarter starting scenarios. I reckon that Gamma will be sometime round November, with release in December. I forsee at least one more beta stage after this upcoming one . Could be completely wrong though: Beta 2 could be a short pre-release of Gamma, just as Private Beta 1 was essentially Alpha 4 with a few tweaks (4.03?)

If gamma means feature complete/content complete I would not expect that before March/April of 2015. I would be very happy to be wrong, but there is a lot we haven't seen and what we have seen still needs work.

An Gamma Release in this year would be much to early. A rushed release would realy kill this game. I Expect Gamma in 02/03 2015 and the full Release somewhere 2015. Even the things that are in the game now are far from realy polished and complete.

But maybe its better to say this not that loud, the fanboys cant stand the truth.... so :

Hhmm... *Cough*... YES! Of course the Gamma will come in November and the complete Game 2-4 weeks later, because Frontier has sooo much content ready that they didnt shown until now, we have only the seen the Tip of the hihgly polished Content-and-Feature-Berg, right...RIGHT?!

I've heard they have a lot of stuff finished that they haven't shown us yet(then again ive also heard there is a secret forums they gets to see stuff early). i think they'll make the 2014 schedule. People on hear seem to be paranoid they wont but i have hope. This game as been going very smoothly along

i can tell you now that you are wrong, unless you mean future complete with all expansions and updates that FD will throw at us in upcoming 10 (at least) years, then you are wrong again and way too optimistic with your date

i am pretty sure that FD already have most features done just not balanced and they develop step by step so we just need to be patient, but they told as numerous times that gamma will be released Q4 2014 and that it will not be at 30th anniversary, so just trust them, Q4 this year it is

Several months ago when PB was going someone from FD suggested there would be 2 Beta stages. That would fit with the "delay" we are seeing. I am expecting Beta 2 to be released for the show at the end of September. What I am also impressed with is that a lot of tweaking can be done without patching. I am expecting Gamma to basically happen once Beta 2 is deemed stable and it to be little more than a version change and a few bug fixes.

The question for me is how long it will stick in gamma.

I was expecting release for Christmas but I think the holiday season and the continued network issues are delaying them a while whether that can be caught up is another question.

Based on previous updates, I'd say Beta 2 will be here in about 2-3 weeks. Then, 7-8 weeks later Gamma.

Gamma is just an open Beta, of course.

From Wikipedia :

"Beta, named after the second letter of the Greek alphabet, is the software development phase following alpha. It generally begins when the software is feature complete. Software in the beta phase will generally have many more bugs in it than completed software, as well as speed/performance issues and may still cause crashes or data loss. The focus of beta testing is reducing impacts to users, often incorporating usability testing. The bold sentence just says me : Gamma (aka real Beta) = early 2015.

What we now playing is Alpha in reality, because what we now have is NOT Feature complete, not even close.

You don't need to be a fanboy to think that they will release this year, you only need to appreciate the advantages of a digital distribution .

If you look at the kickstarter page, the list of intended features is considerably shorter than that found in the DDA; for example, there is no mention of passenger ships or mining.

Once rankings and reputation are added in Beta 2 (according to Newsletter 38, or possibly 37), we will have pretty much everything we need for the core game, with the rest of the stuff adding variety and balance. So I reckon that they will release the game with a subset of features that are working well by the end of the year.

Of course it's not realistic to expect everything in the DDA to be implemented to high quality in the next 4 months... many features can be added in free patches over the course of 2015 .

What is funny : If someone have asked 6 mounth ago nearly everyone pointed to the DDF

Now many are saying : "Of course not all features will be added to the full game!"

And btw : The "Feature list" of the KS pitch is more then vague and blury, like the Information stream now : Vague and blury. I mean : We are less then 4 month from the (official!) release and we didnt know exactly what we could expect. At least FD should know that, WHY they didnt say wich features at wich state we could expect when the game will be released?

They've previously stated quite a few times that they expect the full release (not the gamma) of the game to be Q4 2014. I haven't seen any posts or interviews where this date has changed. I would expect the next beta to be either the end of this month or the beginning of the next. then the Gamma maybe the end of October/early November unless some horrendous issues turn up in the second beta then the full release to be in time for Christmas. Well that's my guess anyway.

Features like the Frame Shift Drive were not even considered as part of the game, even after the Kickstarter campaign finished, so I wouldn't compare what we expect now to what was promised then. The beta version we have now is already a pretty good game, so adding in a handful of extra features and a bucket or two of content should only improve things. I just read FD's policy of keeping things reasonably quiet as a way to avoid spoiling the wow factor when we get to experience them in their full glory. Maybe I am just too charitable.
