Colorblind help

I wasn’t born colorblind so I don’t know what other people can’t see with there colorblindness but I myself and a Disabled Veteran and my colorblindness is due to an injury received in the line of duty. Not asking for any kind of sympathy just asking FDev to consider how helpful it would be to some people out there like myself. Thanks for everyone who has responded to this post.

Console eh? Depends on your television. If it has Hue and Tint settings you’re in luck. Write down what they were so they can be set back later and then adjust until it looks right to you.

If you don’t have this option there’s nothing you can do. Price you pay for having a console.

In my view they really shouldn't call it colour blindness, but colour deficiency. There are people that have monochromatic vision or achromatopsia which means that they can't see any colour, only shades of grey, white and black. It can be inherited or caused by injury. But I think it is very rare.

Check out "reverse color blind tests".

Forget about it. People have been requesting this for far too long now. If FDev were going to do anything about it they'd have done it by now. There's now many other game developers that do build colour options into their games now so if FDev can't or won't implement fixes for users with eyesight disabilities then it's easier and more enjoyable just to play the games that do.
It's a shame really, because 8% of the population have this disability. Imagine if 8% of elites gamers have already given up on the game because it's virtually unplayable for them. Could FDev increase player numbers by doing this colour option fix ?

But the blue mode is just a button press away!

It's not the fss scanner mode I have issues with. It's agriculture stations and planets that make things blend together so I can't see the HUD displays of where to land. But there's different types of colour blindness that have different effects on parts of the game

But do you have that problem with a blue HUD?
That's the point of bringing up the FSS.

They clearly CAN change the HUD color without it altering everything else.
That was the original argument against it.

Would say something like this might help : https://enchroma.com/

(not advertising anything, am not color blind, it just happens to be the only type I know of - others may exist, don't know that, plus I have no idea how much these things cost)

I have two pairs and they help a little bit they don’t help with all colors. I thank everyone for all the help and I have been working with my eye dr on what I can do to fix the issues I am having however sense what I am having is rare there really isn’t much they can do right now. Thanks for everyone with trying to help. I really love playing Elite Dangerous however I can only play in small chunks. I would love to see FDev to take consideration into people with any form of colorblindness and try to make it possible for everyone to enjoy. Once again thanks everyone who is trying to help.

*sigh*

That the FSS is blue, so it stands to reason they could make at least a blue HUD, if not the whole UI.

As far as I know, ships don't appear on the FSS screen. Changing the HUD colours also changes the colour of other elements on the screen , for example the colour of friendly/enemy ships.

And don't *sigh* at me

The problem isn't quite as easy at that. Although there are 3 main types of colour blindness there are subcategories within them. So there many colour combinations and shades that affect individual colour blind people differently. It's a very broad subject and not easy to pin down. So the only option is for the individual to be able to select the colour options themselves.

You are correct but for those of us that have both types of color blindness [red/green, and blue/yellow] the glasses do nothing, and for me i mean literally nothing changed. Was kinda funny at the time.

I know the feeling I have one of the sunsets of red/green and the glasses don’t help me ether. I would love to see FDev make a slider for your UI like the kind they have in a few games that allow you to slide it to pick what ever color makes it possible for you to see things clearly.

I am colour blind. However, I have never encountered any situation in my life where another colour looked 'grey' to me nor the inability to see ANY colour. Colour blindness only changes the shade of colours and the minds ability to identify colours without careful consideration under certain circumstances. I have never heard of anyone who sees in black and white or any variation of that :) Are you sure you are colour blind and not suffering from some eating some sort of weird mushroom? :)

This is incorrect. Colorblindness refers to a variety of disorders ranging from a defect in a single cone (most common, what you and I have), to completely missing cones. Although very rare, it is indeed possible to only be able to see in black and white in the most extreme cases.

I think he misunderstood what I was saying when I mentioned I don’t see the color Orange that I see it as grey. I see many other colors no problem but there are some colors that are completely gone for me. But again it’s not about only me it’s about all of us out there that have any form of colorblindness.

The audio cues are just as bad for us hearing-impaired dogs. (Flight lines, automatic weapons, etc)

Frontier has perfect perception- for their own use.

I am color blind too.
I am well aware of all of that and have been "keeping an eye" on this issue since I bought the game around the PS4 launch.

You missed my point in post #26:

That was the original argument against it.
