Is it weird that I'm not excited about season 4?

Im honestly not. For years i could dream and get excited about the next release, but after having my first experience actually participating in a beta and the number of instances of just obvious carelessness (not honest bugs) in the recent patch my frontier stock has dropped massively.

Funny that because it really changes how you perceive the store cosmetics. When you're high on frontier and elite with that parental kinda fanboy forgiveness you go nuts and its great. Being out of love, they look overpriced to the point of being offensive (for what you get).

It's hard to get excited about it when there's been no information at all. My best guess is enhanced planet surfaces and another grind for something.

Every time! Every single time someone goes and make this personal. Why?

I don't really mean to be personal about it. While asking how we all feel about season 4 is reasonable, some of the other statements in the OP are absurdly worded enough to result in stirring up varying responses again.

I got really excited about losing my virginity and then when it happened it was a bit of a let down.

I hope ED doesn't do that to me too, after all I have to sit down to play.

I'll decide whether to be excited or not when i hear what will come. Otherwise its being a bit premature.

Also "should have" is an opinion of yours which has no connection with reality.

I should be a billionaire! But i'm not...

From what we've seen so far I don't have great expectations for season 4.

We should have had atmospheric landings by now with interactive life forms.

We should have space legs (and hands) with proper content. It was said before that to implement space legs the entire game would practically have to be rewritten. This does not give me hope.

Speaking of content, I would have expected more mature interactive content by now. The game is still stuck in 1984.

And bugs, bugs, bugs! And I'm not talking about thargoids (are arachnids bugs)? As I've stated in a previous post, I couldn't believe that the blocked landing pad bug still existed.

Usually, this post would be titled, "Let's start talking about 4.0." But I'm disheartened. I had great hopes for Frontier and Elite. When I first heard that DBOE was getting the band back together for Elite: Dangerous my mind swelled with possibilities and excitement. But now the expectations have mostly filled. And the excitement? meh.

So, are you excited about 4.0? Or are you of the same mind as me?

I am, yeah. I am not so keen on interacting with life forms though. I leave that to other games. Same with space legs which I don't care a bit about.
What I want is to be able to land on any planet my ship would be able to land on and I want it to look and feel awesome. And that's something I am very sure Frontier can do! I want First Encounters back, bigger, better, more beautiful.

You are right. I mean, it's not like people would overanalyze any single word they say, build unrealistic expectations on that and go absolutely bonkers if just one thing which was considered to maybe be done then is not delivered on time and in best shape.
Luckily such things would never happen in this community, right?
Like the Multicrew SRV they advertised (it's in a video), like the missing ice world overhaul, the suddenly vanished Scatter rock technology they no longer mention for 3.3, the missing guild carriers, the crime & punishment overhaul that basically stitched PVe players with ridiculous punishments and did nothing with the crime part or PVP griefing, the Engineer grind then doubling down on the Guardian grind?
Or maybe you mean the laughable Thargoid invasion that wasn't, visible ship damage modelling (still only on one ship), the not great networking code (I know, players fault for not having perfect ISPs), or their level of communication only surpassed by 2 year olds that have just learned to talk - do you mean that kind of overanalyzing?

Am I excited for 4.0? if it's various atmospheric planets then yea, if it's not then no - and I mean a range of planets, with liquids, gases, mountain ranges, caves not just more height maps (I can wait for vegetation / life etc). I want precipitation and atmospheric buffering and heat shield failure...

Disclaimer: 3.3 was an excellent step in the right direction (no grinding for planet scanner) IMHO, and I didn't mind the ice planet overhaul delay but why is the limpet issue (and there is an issue unless everybody is expected to fly the big three) not condensed into maybe two or three types?

We need some news to get excited about first. And even then FD have a track record for talking about exciting things and then dropping them, so maybe the silence is part of that. Beyond rectified some of the issues in the game, but at the same time it magnified a lot of problems too.

I can tell you feel quite strongly about this... perhaps you should accept that other peoples desires and expectations are not the same as yours, insulting the poster is not a very mature way of disagreeing.

I am not insulting the poster.
Expectations can be ridiculous without the poster being ridiculous. I can respect a poster while at the same time recognizing his expectations to be completely absurd and ridiculous.
That is not immaturity. That is the hallmark of maturity.

Perhaps you would have preferred me going out of my way to sugarcoat my response, so as not to hurt the posters delicate feelings, but after all these years on these forums, being confronted with ridiculous demands and expectations and eternal whining, I am no longer prepared to do so.

Now, it's not nice to read a bitter post is it?
?

Man up and stop crying. And no I'm happy to say I'm on the positive side of life.

G
And they've had 5 years to do that work. Which is probably why Brett came out and acknowledged that they would PROBABLY do it...once t h.g.h e tech can handle it.

Their tech, presumably.

Not really, core release was and is still ships and space.

I am "interested" in season 4 but no longer really excited. Game has gone off in a more fantasy direction than I ever expected and IS getting closer to the generic MMO that we were promised ED would not be.
The game is still playable however with some incredible plus points so I won't be uninstalling g or anything so long as the game is still running

ED is way behind schedule I doubt even the Devs would deny that and it is only the most biased who would argue that horizons was never meant to go beyond 1 year followed by more paid DLC.. however that said I also think your expectations were wildly "ambitious" as well.

The longer we go without key elements the more I believe that we won't be seeing them until Elite 5!

The problem there is one of the selling points DB used to sell the life time pass was that it would end up being great value because this was FDs last elite, there will be no elite 5 and that ED was a long term iterative deisgn to be built on for many years.
That said the way things are going me personally I would be ok with elite 5 starting from scratch and going back to the original ED design.... So long as my life time pass carried over

2) No, it is not 'the media' who are to blame when people refuse to grow up and blame others for not turning their dreams into reality for a few tenners. That is squarely on the individual, and it is perfectly alright to point and say:"you are entitled and it doesnt fit a grown man." People who feel entitled to stuff without contributing anything whatsoever to that thing, and then blame others for their own sense of entitlement? Only to grab a soapbox to tell the world how they arent excited about something they have no clue about what it will be, but somehow will be less than what they feel entitled to, for some reason? Na, I think Iskariat isn't far off the mark here. It is ridiculous, and at some point you should be able to say that. :)

The expectations for ED were created by Frontier at the time of the KickStarter. The notion that Frontier are not responsible for their own game is unusual.

I don't expect much from season 4 nor am i excited given the experience from previously released updates.

But saying we "should" have legs and atmo planets by now is a bit over the line, you clearly have no idea how much work and resources it demands.
Look at Star Citizen, it really should be good example of complexity and amount of work needed not to mention funds.
So i would lower expetations and tried to be more objective.
One feature over the time in simplified version is more realistic, if they make it right.
I would rather wait longer than getting halfproducts like popup screen minigames and such.
If they introduce basic atmospheres on lifeless planets at the start and implement FSS in ships UI i would be more than happy.

That's a lot of "should have"'s. Are they based on anything tangible and verifiable, or is it just your own dream sequence?

But no, I'm not excited about 4.0. "Beyond" gave me a bunch of ships I don't want to fly, a radio-tuning minigame that I would place below Angry Birds but above Snake in terms of immersion, some Guardian tech locked behind a golf buggy assault course which has exactly one useful thing on the roster with a whole bunch of other stuff I'll never ever need, a seriously annoying crime and punishment overhaul complete with a special police file for my flight seat's cupholder, and even more things to do with limpets, like, so much goddamned limpetry. On the plus side they gave us wing missions which are so broken in terms of game balance that I'll never need to earn another credit again. But no, I'm not stoked for the next update, given the track record.

My dream sequence involves exterminating all Space Loaches...
