On Improving The Safety of Commanders In Game

Like I've said before there's shooting fish in a barrel and then there's the fish building the barrel.

Agreed. I've always thought of DW2 kinda like a Sardine Bait Ball:

Their safety is in numbers, so expect some loses should be expected to the circling predators that are attracted. I'm just trying to be one of the smarter/luckier sardines :)

Anyway to address 777's point, it's unwise to pigeonhole these people even if you hate them.

I don't hate them, will pigeonhole them though, these are guys that want to use their spare time jumping 10,000+LY just to send a stranger to a rebuy screen. Only one word for that kinda person tbh, not even sociopaths, just plain idiotic..

For the record, am not against PvP or even gankers hanging out in the bubble.

Who cares? Getting blown up at the START of the expedition, before you have even covered any ground, is the most insignificant thing possible. You’re going to respawn in the same system anyway so it’s not like you’re losing any progress.

Anyone who wants to commit serious griefing is going to have to try much harder than that.

I agree about the jumps, i wanted to commit seppuku after unlocking palin. I wouldn't jump 10000ly for a billion credits.

But the basement stuff, eh just seems mean to me. Way meaner than ganking. My mother was housebound. I am under the impression some very polite posters here are as well. It just left a foul taste in my mouth criticizing a distasteful action in a more distasteful manner.

No pvp players seem to want to play good guy though, they all want the easy mode of group ganking a lone unarmed dude.

Sorry to disappoint your prejudices, but we at Loren's Legion play the role of vigilantes, in both PvP and BGS.

Still, best wishes and good luck to all the intrepid explorers!

I hope you all choose a game mode appropriate to your playstyles and have the maturity to accept the consequences of your choices :)

Use foresight and plan ahead.

Nice concept, but pointless if a player wants to play in Open. Or are you saying that all explorers should have been in Solo and PG? In that case, you are right. Doing anything in Open Mode other than combat is a complete lack of foresight and planning.

… ships not Bubble ready

Bubble ready and long range exploration ready are almost mutually exclusive ship load outs. That's, in my opinion, a major problem for Open Mode - the extreme imbalance between combat ships and everything else.

… leadership has got to stand up and accept responsibility …

The DW2 leadership should have made very clear that Open Mode is the worst choice for any participant and they should made that very, very clear and pointed that out very loud.

Blech. If I want to eat a choc-ice in the Sahara I need the foresight and planning to bring a fridge and a power source - because I know it will be remote and hot. Just stating "I want to do it, I have a right to eat choc-ices in the Sahara" won't make it stay frozen and tasty - and that seems to be your solution.

My 4 years of trading, smuggling and exploring in Open suggest otherwise.

The DW2 leadership should have made very clear that Open Mode is the worst choice for any participant and they should made that very, very clear and pointed that out very loud.

Given that they treated security as an afterthought, yes that would have been sensible.

Either way, failure to plan is planning to fail.

No, that's not my solution and not what I wrote.
Planning and foresight is all nice and important, but if the result of planning and foresight is "Don't participate in DW2 in Open", then planning and foresight is rather pointless if the intention is to participate in DW2 in open.

And to use your analogy it would be like wanting ice-cream in the Sahara, but to be in the Sahara would require to use an oven and bringing a fridge would result in the ice-cream melting even faster.

The last time I was destroyed by griefers during an exploration expedition, it was Frontier that did the griefing! Yes, I remember the Gnosis, especially during those early hours when boss-level Thargoids were able destroy ships sitting on landing pads with impunity, something even player griefers cannot do!

I lost a really good SLF pilot that day...
