Riddle me this . . .

Why does every ship in the game have a computer that is capable of finding a safe location on a random, planetary surface near the SRV and then landing the ship there but still apparently needs a separate docking computer to find and land on prepared landing pads that are consistently placed at every space-station, outpost and planetary settlement?

The developers care little for consistency, it's just 'bang it out', if it doesn't crash the game... success! Move on.

Because, forum riot.

"Enquiries have been so often addressed to me, as to whether any answer to the JettsonRING's Riddle can be imagined, that I may as well put on record here what seems to me to be a fairly appropriate answer, viz: 'Because it can produce a few notes, tho they are very flat; and it is never put with the wrong end in front!' This, however, is merely an afterthought; the Riddle, as originally invented, had no answer at all.”

Its a licence issue, The company that make the autopilot systems are locking autodock at stations behind a pay wall. When you install a docking computer 'Module'... you are actually just installing a software enabler.

Correct. Look at the services available at each station (system map) and you'll see which ones have an autodock capability. Docking Computer slaves your ship to the dock authority ATC.

i don't know why everything is not automated OP, mining, bounty hunting, trading, missions, power play, jumping, engineering and BGS. If they were, i could rack up another 36 weeks of game play on some other game. Just load the game and cut the grass.

You do need a module for your ship to auto (or even manually) land on planet surfaces: it's the Planetary Approach Suite, and it comes pre-installed on all ships. Take it off and you can't land on planets anymore.

Module required for auto landings either way -- seems consistent to me.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Nevermind that they can also plot a route through space and time and manage to hit a single point parsecs away either.

But we all know the answer....

Because game. :D

Why is there suddenly a bunch of threads complaining that the docking computer is seperate and not on every ship this month? We play this game to fly ships, but people want to take away part of the flying.

Why is it that these new lurex dancing tights go baggy at the knees after only a couple of evenings fun?
Bring back the old canvas ones I say.

It is incredible, isn't it, that in these days when man can walk on the moon and work out the most complicated hire purchase agreements, I still get these terrible headaches. Well . .. I seem to have wandered a bit, but still, no harm done.

Jolly good luck
