Fact: Dumb AI promotes and encourages the behavior of gankers.

Only way to stop ganking is for everyone to never react. and even then, they will imagine salt, unless you can record yourself at the point of beeing ganked, and having a giggle/good time ... with out any sarcasm in your voice as you say 'Nicely done GG'.

Cant block them out the game (not on about the list)
Cant give them something more than they are already getting (salt /player reaction behind the screen -the victim is responsible for their own reaction of and not the development team, that's why the ganker love saying 'it's just a game')

At most, the game could keep getting locked down, restrictive in what action can be carried out and that would be a shame, and still, the gankers would find a way.

but as for harder NPCs... yeah, love the ideas (posted about it) but also explained it's not for the gankers, but for me :) the next challenge.. and thargoids... I don't wanna kill them . Remember, 'ram' (or was it palin?) told us they are fleeing civil war, and we never saw who fired the first shots, only thargoid aftermaths where found... Nah, i not gonna blow up space refugees, just because they are so wildly different to humans (...and then think it's okay :p)

I only "gank" AX commanders or people farming Guarding tech for this reason -- to protect the 'Goids. I wrap my ganks around RP but I don't suppose that means anything to the thin-skinned and their feelings.

i think that's kinda cool :) and i do think it helps some of the players on the receiving end of a gank, if there is an 'in-game' reason... linked to current events (thargoids, Power play, the monks of Van Maanen's Star)

Until NPCs can pass the turing test in response to my comms, and/or create out-of-game personas that are more compelling/entertaining/funny than the in-game powerplay powers, imma keep shooting CMDRs.

Would you still 'gank' AX commanders if the AX weapons were more effective against human ships? Methinks not ….

I was part of a group called HALT (Hate Aegis Love Thargoids) that had very honorable rules of engagement. We would patrol current 'Goid incursion zones. But FDev decided to make our gameplay impossible to enter an incursion zone. Alas, they had the opportunity to create some gameplay around PvP but dropped the ball instead.

I'd gank a capital class ship carrying tactical nukes from a sidey if Zarek told me to, or if I thought the flagship would respond to my comms demands that it spin in a circle.

But that's just me. I'll let HH speak for himself.

Youthinks incorrectly then.

When I was in HALT we did everything we could to make the ganking easier on the gankee. Some of us didn't even equip shields. All of us never group ganked and always used lame PvE ships (so no meta-PvP ships) and that could be taken out with Guardian weps. We routinely engaged with members of HIVE (and some other group I forget now) who protected\escorted the AX commanders. Good times.

So you assume too much. But it sounded good, eh?

Forget traditional AI, I can't wait for the first game that releases true AI, something with machine learning that uses a neural net chip. You know, like this guy:

Let's just hope it doesn't escape the confines of the game and gain access to our home automation systems!

True. But it will still be more fun to gank actual humans because... feelings.

The more thin-skinned people become, the more easily "outraged" they are, the more "offended" they claim to be, the more fun ganking is.

Ehh, no need for AI for that, if you haven't setup your router correctly pretty much any bored tech oriented teenager with enough time on his/her hands can already do this. The security on those things is truly awful, I've done some penetration testing on a few brands.

That's already been done, and is why Kasparov/Carlsen types are no longer the best in the world at chess, and probably same will soon apply to Go and any other game like that.

Better AI involving machine learning could make the ED NPCs more interesting though by increasing their difficulty via less predictable patterns. (Instead of via overpowered loadout or tricky but repeatable puzzle to solve). I actually think the AI flight is pretty good [relatively speaking], wouldn't be surprised if there was a little machine learning there already.

What you're referring to is more akin to an AI that can pass [advanced variants of] the Turing test, which some folks do work on, but is v hard and less lucrative than Google/NSA. For now all the top machine learning gurus are busy making automated cars or helping governments track everyone's location at all times via video security camera feeds.

Absolutely true. We have entered the 'triggered' era, where people blame others for their feelings and don't accept responsibility for how they let them selves feel. No ones perfects, for example, i let this ''triggered culture'' upset me, because they act like things should be changed for them >< (and cus of this culture, when i put an idea forward, people assume that i'm doing so because i want to punish someone/take control.. nah, not how i work)

(this is why i make a point, where a good idea is made.... I think its good because it will improve the game, or balance out game play... i don't wanna see gankers unduly punished cus some people can handle their own emotions - griefers are another matter)

Am I the only one who ganks for lulz?

Having some poor sap at 12% hull maneuver his ship and spin it, then type "ZO?" into comms will always entertain me way more than some DM that calls me [expletive deleted].
