What do you think will come in 2020?

Ray Stantz: What he means is Old Testament, Mr. Mayor. Real Wrath of God Type stuff!
Peter Venkman: Exactly.
Ray Stantz: Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling!
Egon Spengler: 40 years of darkness! Earthquakes, volcanoes!
Winston Zeddemore: The dead rising from the grave!
Peter Venkman: Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria!

Or just spread the word of an amazing game.
I am getting signed up to my local Astronomy Society and met them this week, went to a talk on Star Formation this Wed and their exhibition today at a local museum at a science fair.

I did show the nice people at the Astronomical Society Screenshots of Elite Dangerous and said you can go anywhere in our galaxy and thats why im here I want to buy a telescope and look up at the sky with you people.

I dont expect anything but dissapointment. Whatever it is, it will be painfully broken and half baked, like all the other stuff.

I tried Powerplay. Didn't seem to make much difference to the outcome whether I played or not, so I gave up.

Powerplay does need a significant overhaul. In particular there needs to be more vertical intrgration between Super-Powers, Powers & Factions.

Aiding specific factions should have a strong impact on affiliated Powers-& vice versa. Likewise, consecutive successes for a specific Power should have lasting ramifications on their affiliated Super-Power-& should be reflected via Galnet & the like.

Also, I think that joining a specific Super-power-via their Navies-should have more ramifications for the player.

For the record, given the gap between Beyond & The Next Era, I think it is entirely reasonable to expect some very significant changes to what planets we can land on. I believe recent stuff added in the Beyond Season (like lagrange clouds & storm effects, variety of Biological & Geological PoI's) already make simple atmospheric planets viable at this point-but I suspect they want to go even further than that, hence why its pushed back to 2020.

I am increasingly of the belief that we will also see some kind of "Elite Feet" in 2020-even if some transitions are not 100% seamless (like moving from your ship out to EVA).

I am also hoping that we will see major overhauls to Power-play & the Military Career Path.

It's going to be something optional so the existing game is going to need to be able to remain separate. Both Atmospheric interactions and an FPS style addon meet this criteria. However Atmospheric landings is more of the same basic game (this is what I want), spacelegs is a different kind of game, which is probably a better fit with the way FDev described the 2020 update. Marketing Speak & 'excited' hyperbole cloud things though, and this long after Horizons was announced any excitement about a surprise has been lost. The moment has gone, the ball has been dropped, stopped bouncing, rolled to a kerb & just sits there, mocking FDev's ability to pick up the ball & run with it.

The best case scenario is that atmospherics come between now & the premium update, as a natural development of asset creation & environmental interaction, and the premium update is some sort of FPS engine with planet-side bases & POIs to explore.

The worst case is nothing of significance (to me) for the next couple of years then the premium update is something I have no use for (like a separate FPS shooter game adding a fifth Elite rank) and more of the existing gameplay elements I do enjoy will be eroded in the name of progress.

The delay is too long, the number of updates has been (and will probably continue to be) decent but the number of updates any single customer is interested in is very poor imo and I don't see anything to suggest that's going to change.

...The best case scenario is that atmospherics come between now & the premium update...

I hope this is the case; but probably unlikely as they've already said everything we're getting this year will be smaller than beyond content. Maybe the community outrage/disappointment with the late 2020 date will cause them to re-evaluate, but I wouldn't bet on it.

So play those and check in later if the update sounds appealing. Not like you have to pay a subscription for the next two years. Shrug.

The only reason they are doing it this way is the thousands upon thousands of angry comments about how they did Horizons piecemeal and too slowly after charging up front. Well, if you want a big update, that's how long it takes. So now we won't see any of it until it's finished instead of getting chunks at a time.

The planets with atmosphere, fauna and flora seem to be the logical continuation of the evolution of this game and could bring many new customers.

If it's not going to be ready until the back end of 2020 at the earliest, it certainly isn't going to be ready any earlier. Whatever the big plans are, the resources will not be there to make them go any faster.

FDevs want next major update in 2020 as paid DLC, so it's surely gonna be something worth the money - space legs, atmospheric landings still stand as the most desired things that can be added to the game.
