Frontier, what sorry?

bearing in mind the next big push is coasters as well as terrain there is a lot of content in this release. People will soon not be worrying about it because so many will be starting parks from scratch due to the new tools and parts anyways.

The two things that have not been addressed that are being asked a lot from community both here and other places are;

  • Rescaling of decoration pieces
  • texture/colour selector for building pieces

I believe these two things would give us the biggest increase in creativity and design options without needing themes etc. Never know maybe the scale thing can be implemented between now and Phase 2 but I don't feel that we would get the texture side by then because the amount of coding and design etc needed to introduce this. It would need a whole rework on how we create structures in the game.

The only thing that I would like to note is until we get rescale abilities the effects boxes look to be a little large for certain instances.

Adam

Just my 2 cents . This is a alpha ! Alpha is the stage when key gameplay functionality is implemented, and assets are partially finished.[ A game in alpha is feature complete, that is, game is playable and contains all the major features . I have 20 plus years of game testing, scripting, coding and modeling . I know what alpha and beta are .

That said this game is pre-alpha at best ! I m sorry if I sound mean or angry . I'm not I love the game and the developers work .

I have stopped using the game due to not being interested anymore . In my opinion this is not good for sales or morale of the players . PC needs more content soon .

I dunno. I'm fine with what's coming in the next update. Just being able to rotate all the pieces is going open up all kinds of possibilities. I think that the "Gumball" (that's what it's called in some CAD software) is really some "nextGen" stuff dreams are made of. Throw in zBrush/Sculptris style terraforming...Ho-leeee shhh t Batman!!!

I'm fine about no new themes for Alpha 2, but I was at least expecting even a few pieces from the Fairytale theme as a tease. I'm really surprised the re-colourable issue wasn't addressed. If we had recolourable pieces just in the modern Planet Coaster theme, that would open up so many options for building different looking buildings and would keep us all occupied.
That being said, I think people are worrying too much. Don't forget, we're going to get:

New path textures
Natural paths
Stairs
New building pieces
Full rotation options for scenery
New rides
New Rollercoasters
Re-vamped, more complete Coaster editor
Particle effects
And a massively powerful terrain editor (which on it's own will eat many, many hours of our spare time)

Have I missed anything?

And we've still got another live-stream to go, which no doubt will have more reveals, before the Alpha 2 release.

So, let's face it, all this, plus what we've already got in Alpha 1, I don't think we'll be getting bored anytime soon. I already can't keep up the pace building with my ideas as they come thick and fast, inspired by the amount of juicy things we have in the Lego box that is Planet Coaster.

Let's say I'm right & the white walls are what will be re-color-able, what the hold up might be is this...
1. color the white walls whatever color you want in your game.
2. export to a save file. ( blueprint )
3. import from a save file. ( on a different computer )
4. it turned back to white instead of saving the color you made it. ( this might be the hold up w/ recoloring currently )

I think it's a bad decision simply from a marketing perspective to not include another theme in this release. Sure we're getting a lot of other features, but the fact is that people that stream this game are good with scenery specifically. They build areas of the park based on whatever they can come up with using the existing themes. Almost everyone has been saying that everyone's parks start to look the same stylistically because everything has the same color schemes and feel to them. The fact that no new theme will come with this release has me worried that the innovation we've seen so far will die down a bit because you still have the "same old" themes to do everything with - even with a couple of new pieces added.

I may be wrong, and we'll probably see crazy things being made using the terrain tools. It would've just been a perfect second phase if they added another theme to the mix as well.

Have they ever mentioned how many themes will be included at launch. I suspect some are gonna be held back because DLC .

We know from the game folders that there's,
Western
Spooky
Pirate
Fairy Tale
Planet Coaster
Vanilla

Vanilla is probably not an actual theme but just generic/misc scenery items. Space theme concept art has been shown but it's not in the folders. That could either mean it's going to be DLC or it's just not there yet. I'm personally fine with theme pack DLC if it's priced at a good value for the amount of content. It would also be really nice if they gave Alpha members a discount on the first pack. [praise]

If you release too much to early, you are going to suffer from burnout. I haven't unlocked costers for that reason. ( I play for around 2-4 hours a week). Currently working on two parks (Pirate and Generic) and the because of the maps they are completely different, with the Terrain tool they will be even more.

Usually I don't bother playing Early Access games that much, for the exact reason. I own both RCTW and Parkitect and no real desire to play either of them at the moment, for a number of reasons, but planet coaster is different, maybe later in the Beta I may leave it for a few months.

I think a certain mascot ;0

I am not to worried about a new theme. Terrain editing is going to be great with the new path system and the x y z rotation of items. This is going to open up more options for buildings. I am up to park 11 now and i keep coming up with new ideas for park layouts. I am not to great on building design but thats ok as I am still learning this.

After the next video with the final lot of new stuff coming in I am sure everyone should be happy. I do not want them to release every thing in the pre-release. This way when we get the full release will will still have new stuff to playaround with.

A certain mascot? Maybe. Or maybe not. That mascot would be very welcome!
They said Gulpee would be in Alpha 2! How could anyone forget about that???[rolleyes]
