General / Off-Topic Jurassic World Evolution - General Discussion

I personally bought the Deluxe edition of Jurassic World Evolution on the Frontier Store while paying with USD. That saved me about 7 euros compared to the euro price. :D

It is a good idea to wait for reviews before you're going to buy a game. I have based my purchase on the excitement that I got from the huge amount of gameplay videos that are on YouTube, which are all made with development builds of the game. Also, IGN has some interesting videos about the game that are highly recommended if you are following news about this game.

Cheers Joel. I've not seen many of those videos, so that's probably why I'm not as excited. Will have a look and see how I feel then. [up]

Personally, I wouldn't watch too many gameplay previews or "let's plays" of this. I think it will be mildly entertaining to play through once, explore the possibilities and discover the details and secrets yourself (so without getting them spoiled by watching other playthroughs). But after you've successfully set up one park, you've seen them all. There is no room for creative input, all parks (either yours or other players) will end up the same once you figured the optimal formula that makes the park and profits soar. The challenge is in discovering this formula, so don't let other playthroughs spoil that for you! That's why I don't think this game has a promising longevity and ends up in the bargain bin relatively soon.

That concerns me a lot. First, will Frontier be cappable of balancing the gameplay? I´m not very sure about that. Neither I´m sure about "end-game" content. I do think Frontier will add sandbox in a free update at some point, but I´m afraid this game is not meant to last for a long time. In less than two years, most people will probably forgot it. Only hardcore dinosaur lovers will stick with it, but not all of them.

Hardcore dinosaur lover here [big grin]

I think I'll have a great time.

I loved Operation Genesis so I had to preorder. The thing about SIM games like these is you can go back to them for a play every few months which is my preferred gaming style.

I'll preorder it within a few days of it coming out. I know I'll love it. I like simulation games and it will have a sandbox mode that I will play first thing. I plan on doing a yt video of it too.

Hopefully JWE comes with directx12 support. It should since it will be on Xbox One X. Planet coaster only has directx11. Could explain why the graphics and GPS look good from the videos on YouTube. Looking forward to this game coming out next week. I'll primarily be playing the sandbox mode. Heard you can turn on and off natural disasters and dinosaur sickness.

I'm no expert, but I thought there is no difference in graphics between a DX11 or DX12 version, or is there?

It's not that DX11 looks prettier than Dx12? that sounds silly.

Hasn't that always been the case? Nothing has changed here recently. You either buy a game a head of time and put your gambles that it will be good, or you wait until release and let others try/test first. In that case you still have to put your trust in the reviewer.

This seems like it should be the fundamental thinking for anything you buy. You either take a chance and risk being dissatisfied (or positively so and sometimes gain some extra "freebies") or you wait, do your research and than make an educated decision. Just life today as well as 100 of years ago. Just more selection and easier to educate yourself today.

I think pre-orders are more "agressive" nowadays. For instance, sometimes they try to offer "limited kind of content" only if you pre-order, trying people to convince into pre-ordering. Every now and then, I read on the internet how some people regret of pre-ordering (again) and that they never do it again (but they will :D)

Don’t forget that steam offers refund policy.

Steam now offers video game refunds for 'any reason' Valve's online games platform Steam has added a refund policy. ... As long as a player has purchased the game within the past 14 days and played less than two hours, they can file a request through Steam's support system.

This is what I will be doing if it turns out to be broken, which I’m sure it won’t. The 14 days shouldn’t be an issue now for anyone as the game launches on the 12th.

That's why a lot of games have lengthy tutorials, so when you actually start playing the game the 2 hours are past before you notice it.

I don;t pre-order anymore. The bonuses you get for that are minimal or don't make sense.

I'd rather wait nowadays till discounts come along.

To bad JWE is also published on PS4 and Xbox One. Because that's why the price is so high (one of the downsides of consoles, they ramp the prices uo for games on pc.

The prices will fall soon after release, but on release date the prices need to be on the same level.

Does it matter if they are more aggressive now than before? Or are people in general more stupid and impatience today? Yes, companies may offer a lot of "goodies" that you may only get if you pre-order (PC did if I remember correctly) but it still your decision to buy or not to buy. You either decide to pre-order and know the risks with it, or you wait and do your homework.

The best example of what you get when you pre-order a game is Planet Coaster itself. A lot of us has bought the game as Alpha Version and the game still feels unfinished 'til today.
