Question about Paid Add-On Content and Workshop Downloads

Given the amount of enjoyment I get out of Planet Coaster, I'll likely buy any DLC that is made available.

I understand some concerns, but I think some people should give Frontier more credit; they've been around long enough to know the value of what they're selling.

I'm looking forward to hearing something official to put an end to speculation! [wink]

Elite Dangerous proves otherwise.

It's true that the cosmetics for elite are quite expensive and (for me) not worth the money they cost. But that is quite a different situation because Elite is an MMO.
By purchasing ride skins in elite you're basically donating to frontier so that they can keep the game running with all servers online and maintained.

PC is a completely different story because they have no (or almost no) running server costs. The only cost they have are the development of the DLC itself, therefore I think they can offer a much better value for money. (At least I hope that's what they'll do)

Exactly, and until we know exactly what the DLC will be i wouldn't worry about it too much. The Speculation leads to nowhere.

Of course! No one is saying PCs DLC will be like Elite Dangerous's but we should remain very critical because I'd rather not see the community get split apart because of separately sold scenery items. Also, Frontier themselves used the word 'optional cosmetic purchases' to give your parks 'some extra personality', which sounds a lot like how other games handle these kinds of DLC. I really hope Frontier will do the right thing here.

Yes. We will have to wait and see what the official Announcements say. I hope they do it soon, because some users here already start climbing over each other.

looks like we got MICROTRANSACTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :S

What a coincidence dont you think? [haha]

Its a bummer it locks you out of any creation that contains paid objects. Sooner or later these DLC will be mandatory if you want to keep using the Workshop. Maybe they can make it so that you can place blueprints that contain DLC items, and just have the DLC items disappear or have a placeholder for them or something.

Yeah, this shouldn't come as a surprise.

It's still optional, and yes, some blueprints will be excluded for others. But I don't believe that means that all blueprints from now on will use these pieces, but it will become more scattered in the Workshop. But hey, it's 2017, this is the new age where microtransactions are allowed. So I hate to say it but I think you should deal with it.

'Dealing with it' is the entire reason this is now normal practice. And I don't really care since I never use the Workshop, but I know many people that do, and while it may not be a problem right now, with future micro-transactions it definitely will.

@Luuknoor - you think we should just deal with it?? Why couldnt frontier sell all 3 items as a bundle for 5.99? instead of making me purchas 3 items for 1.99?

Currently, at this point in time, 3 items is not a big deal. But if they continue this trend, it will not be fun for new players discovering the game when trying to search the workshop... just seems like a dumb move imo

Fair point indeed. Also what ever DLC are introduced if you download a park and you do not have the DLC or Expansion the park must revert to a generic scenery item and still allow you into that park!

Not to be silly, but when you cook a 3-stage diner at home, are you gonna complain in the supermarket you cannot get the entire diner in 1 package so you can get a discount?

besides. If they would sell it for 5.99 you would pay more as well [haha]

yeah, you are overreacting here.

Next time you shop save some money on something you might not need and spend it on Planet Coaster. It's not so hard. One beer less in the bar doesn't kill you but let's you buy an epic DLC.

There should be an option for buying 1 or all 3 at a slight discount - however as long as people who do not use buy the same DLC are not penalised in other words the system needs to generate generic scenery instead of the DLC packs this way it is fair!

I think that this was going to be a given at some point. But I wouldn't call it Micro-transactions. I think this is just OPTIONAL DLC. I think that if you had to pay for outfits for your peeps or a different car for your coaster, then that would be where people could get outraged.

This DLC is completely up to you whether you buy or not, and doesn't mean that you HAVE to buy it to continue with the game. Unfortunately, it may block out people using certain items from the Workshop, but as En Anu is suggesting, a placeholder in place of the DLC content would be a good way to tackle this to some degree.

I would like to think that Frontier can split the workshop into DLC & Non-DLC sectors, so that you have the option to look for something that you can have in game should you not opt to purchase the DLC. I just hope that they stick to IP related DLC like this, instead of starting to add extra themes for money.

this isnt about price, its about organization.

In RCT3 it was better having 2 large expansions, once you get into small add-ons it becomes a mess. I wont support 100 various scenery items, I want gameplay content

Doesn't matter if they are optional or not, they are still micro-transactions. Also, they might not be so 'optional' in the near future, when the majority of the players use DLC items in their creations.
