What is happening?

Hello everyone,

It's been a while since I came here to see what's next and nothing seems to be planned and no announcements about future of the game. Is the game end at the same time of last year?

If it's not the case, the communication is really missing. I hope that interesting things are coming.

Nothing's changed at the moment.

The same with announcements, they only announce when there is something to announce.

Things have been pretty quiet ever since the anniversary update :( I know frontier is usually secretive about things, but even the community events are slowing down, the latest announcement for "Chinese New Year" hardly received any responses because nobody was excited about it. They are obviously focusing on JWE right now, but it would still be nice to give PlanCo another small boost. I mean, we have had 3 small DLCs and 2 medium ones, which are kind of overpriced, and yet no word on any bigger expansions still?? It's been 2 years since Alpha first launched, they should have a celebration later this month!

Anyway, I'm hoping they announce a bigger expansion add-on in a few months, maybe after JWE releases (its not like JWE will have expansions, so they should be able to put that game to rest soon and start working on something bigger for PlanCo!)

Yes, it has been really quiet.

I would really like to hear anything at all, or maybe just a pic or two. Anything to indicate they are still breathing.

OP you know how it works by now. We know it's being worked on but as Luuk says we must wait until its release is imminent before more news. And don't start the communication thing AGAIN... [rolleyes]

I for one think communication is important for a game like this, PlanCo is driven by the community.

Now you said "AGAIN" in all caps, but... frontier was very very vocal last year right up until the anniversary update. I personally never stated frontier was "bad at communicating" just that they have quieted down, recently...

We know it's being worked on [...] we must wait until its release is imminent before more news.

The only thing we know for certain is that, yes frontier has plans for the future... but not one word is shared as to where PlanCo is headed, not one teaser of future plans, it makes it sad not having anything to look forward to... I mean, we had teasers of the game months before Alpha launched, but now we got nothing zzz, and the last update was over 3 months ago

You’re right in that we all know the drill by now; Frontier does not communicate until they are 100% ready to do so.

That being said, I would love to hear some hints about where Planet Coaster is heading for, or hints about the future of the game. As it stands right now, we know nothing about the future. The only thing that we know is that Frontier is still working on the game, based on the internal builds that are pushed to Steam, according to SteamDB.

We also know that Frontier has told in the past that they intend to support the game for at least some time after release. Let’s hope they meant at least a few years. Of course, that will only be possible if ongoing development of Planet Coaster remains profitable.

I look forward to hear more about the future of the game. :)

If they not interested in the game anymore, they should open it to modding. RCT3 lived because of that, over 12 Years and amazing creations came up.

I find their marketing philosophy extremely weird with the silence. If you don't tease, give occasional updates and/or hints about your products future then you risk people losing interest & think the games support is dead. The 3 major community forums; here, Reddit sub & Shyguy's are slowing down dramatically.

I suspect we'll be getting some info about an update around their PAX East event in April. At least I hope because...*knockknock* hello? Anyone there?

I don't know what is considered "successful" in the gaming world these days, but they did sell over a million copies of PC. The problem (IMO) is they spent a lot of money on updates and DLC, but the DLC clearly wasn't as successful (I doubt they sold even half a million on DLCs) thats why IMO they should focus on a bigger expansion :)[up]

However, I also realize a bigger expansion will take more time, and a few months back Bo specifically responded to questions about expansions saying "they were not going to release any larger expansions" which IMO really hurts the future of the game. I know they are focusing on JWE but I think the majority of our community is expecting some sort of Spring update, even if its something small.

On another note, I think frontier has done great with this game so far, I just really wish they would announce some bigger plans for later this year (or maybe even something for 2019). I think if people had expectations of something big being in the works (like say a water park or safari expansion) it would keep people interested in playing more, even if those surprises are a long ways away. If they are working on something then I'm not sure how secrecy helps

Then there is the concern of piracy, which I for one am sad to know that Denuvo was cracked. I hope that they can fix Denuvo for future development, because as a paying customer I feel we (the community) are the ones being hurt by piracy [down]

I agree with your post.

Also bear in mind that a major update for Elite Dangerous has just been released, of course they work with different teams, but it wouldn't be strange that those teams also work on multiple projects.

Now with Jurrassic Park on the horizon as well, I expected Planet Coaster to receive less updates untill the release of the update for ED and the release of JP.

But I don't consider the game dead. Community Creations still has regular new posts. It's only the discussion, suggestions and tech support that receives less posts than it used to.

As for piracy, yeah, we are the ones being hurt, but that counts for every major game released in this era.

I must admit, the quiet on the front is a bit disheartening. I know frontier don't announce anything unless its ready, but just a small post saying they are working on the game still would help...

I could understand their lack of showing off their 'Future' Plans, 'Work in Progress' Pics (call 'em what you will) during the making of the Game, .....when RCTW was considered competition, but this continued lack of communication, even now, when PC has won the fight for only Modern Game of this type, I don't understand.

Come on Frontier, show us some 'Countdown' Pics or something, you remember those, right? Or another 'Next Flatride' Poll, that was fun,...... just something to get the Forums talking, it's like a Morgue round here sometimes.

I fear the worst after watching last weeks Live Stream.
1. Bo batted away a question about updates in rather a dismissive manner with no comment, not great comms or treating your supporters well!
2. The head of animation , forgot his name, said "I've been busy working on building dinosors" "I've not played this game in ages". Both comments to me say they are not working on this game that much and despite people saying there are multiple teams there are clearly not.

On a differnet point I have been really dissappinted by the live streams lately. I go to them to watch builds and to find out nuggets about the exciting developments for the game. Lately the live streams are waffle about the personal lives of those taking part. The most interesting person has been Andy Chappel who talks about how the game is developed, challenges with coding etc.

I do hope we are all wrong and something big is around the corner but Frontier it looks like people are walking away, either step up or open this up to the community to keep it alive with modding [sulk]

What does modding has to do with keeping it alive?
The game is still playable right? Even without modding.

About the statements.
1. She has always done that. Nothing out of the ordinary.
2.I think there are multiple teams, but they also overlap on different projects. With the release of the new massive update for Elite and the upocming release of Jurrassic Park I'm not surprised PC has gotten less attention. But I don't believe it's an abandoned project.

Besides, most devs don't play the game, they design it. Head of Animation, doesn't sound like someone that actually plays the game during development.

I agree with Luuknoord. The devs I spoke with at Frontier Expo were excited about future ideas of PC. It also was hinted that the DLC was doing well.

Its funny how you aways get attacked here if you make a statement which questions the holy grail opinion that all is rosey. Maybe the earth is flat? A decent update or modding support would be the only reason to play the game gong forward as its not really playbale long term as it, look at the numbers of continuos players, footfall talks!

I seriously doubt that Frontier is running out of ideas for PlanCo, or is even bored of it. Sure, it has been quiet lately, but surely they're working on stuff, as well as moving to a new location. Be Patient Young Padawan!

i really think that the "adventure Pack" was the last one! they haven't corrected all the bugs with this DLC and it's almost 3 months old... I really think that for Frontier the cash is made with PC and they are focusing on other game that are in DEV right now [cry] even their post on FB and Twitter are REALLY coming slow these days...

Look at RCT3, until PC was released it was still played by many. Thousands of Custom Objects, Rides and Coasters and also Mods which Change textures etc. And i loved to see new Content by all the creative people out there!
