The "Can I Run Planet Coaster" thread

Hello,

My computer has an i5-3570k 3,4 GHz CPU along with 8 Gb of RAM and I planned to upgrade my GTX 650 to a RX480 4 Gb. Will I be able to run the game without problems ?

Thanks !

Hi. I have an HD 7850 graphics card which is on the minimum spec list for the game: however, it only has 1GB of VRAM. Will I still be able to play the game, or is 2GB absolutely necessary? Thanks.

Would overclocking help at all?

unfortunetly not. you need a quad core processor (eg. 4 physical cores, 8 threads) to play this game well. Dual core CPU's will always struggle with this game. The intel core i5 6200u on my laptop is always 100% utlized and its a dual corem where as my i7 6700k is only 56% utilized results from msi afterbruner and windows 10 task manager. See the big difference between dual core and quad core processors?

Only on 720p low settings at best. i have a laptop with i5 6200u and intel hd 520 and it plays it poorly. intel hd 520 is a very low end graphics solution and a quad core processor is a must for this game if you wanna play it well.

Can't really afford an upgrade for a few months, but been itching to pull the trigger on this game...

Any chance that a

Intel Q6600 2.4Ghz
6GB of RAM
nVidia GTX 260
Windows 7 64-bit

Would run it?

Could likely boost the RAM to 8GB, though that's a bit unstable on this particular mobo.

Might be stuck waiting until I upgrade, but thought I'd throw it out there on the off-chance it might work.

will this work?

Hi guys,

I'm going to buy a new desktop for playing Planet Coaster and do some middle-weight video editing and rendering with Pinnacle. I'm not sure which CPU will do the work. So I'm a rookie in this world and I really appreciate your advice.

I can't choose between both CPU's:

i5 - 6600K
i7 - 6700

I know that the i5 can be overclocked, but I need am extra cooler for the CPU, heavier power supply and mobo which gives the oppurtunity to overclock the i5. All these components together costs more than the i7 with the intel cooler. I've checked a lot of benchmarks and found that the performance of an overclocked i5 is almost the same as the i7 out of the box. My only gaming experience is with the good old RCT 2 a long time back in the past century [wink]. I'm even unfamiliar with overclocking. Basically it's just playing Planet Coaster. Maybe later also some racing games. No shooters!

I've already chosen for the nvidia GTX 1060 (6GB) and 16 GB RAM. Mobo depends on which CPU.

Thank you for your advice

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas!

Hi OtterForce,

Unfortunately, that computer does not meet the minimum specs required for Planet Coaster. You can find the minimum required specs here: https://support.frontier.co.uk/kb/faq.php?id=292
Your RAM is below the minimum requirement of 8 GB and your GPU supports DirectX 10. Planet Coaster requires a GPU that supports at least DirectX 11 or higher.

Thanks for your interest though. I hope you will be able to play Planet Coaster at some point. [happy]

Hey Rikkkiee,

That setup does meet the minimum requirements and therefore should be OK to run Planet Coaster. Always remember that you get a better performance on higher end computers, but that being said you should be fine to run the game.

Have fun!

In your case I would recommend the Intel i7-6700. It cannot be overclocked by default, but based on your post you might not even want to overclock it anyway. The i7-6700 has hyperthreading, while the i5-6600K does not, and that gives the i7-6700 an advantage for software that can use 8 threads, such as Planet Coaster and certain video editing software (I don't know if Pinnacle will support 8 threads).

Since you're from Holland, I will include a link to a Dutch site that can give you a little more insight into this matter (in case you haven't already read this info). https://nl.hardware.info/forum/threads/i5-6600k-of-i7-6700.285570/

Windows 10 64-bit
Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2130 CPU @ 3.40GHz
6.0 GB of RAM
Video Card: Intel(R) HD Graphics

the laptop:
Windows 10 64-bit
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-5200U CPU @ 2.20GHz

Both computers do not meet the minimum required specification for Planet Coaster. Please read the minimum specs to see what you can do about that.

Hi Gerd,

There is no demo or trail version available for Planet Coaster.

From what I can see of your specs, your RAM is below the minimum required 8 GB. You need to install more RAM into your computer.

Hi Ryanhop01,

Yes, you should be able to run Planet Coaster with that setup.

Have fun!
