Shame on you fdev

Since you're very familiar with the term 'subscription', you're probably just as familiar with the term 'straw man' (no really, ive only ever heard this often from pro sub people).

Is frontier offering the content or the technical networking ability to justify a recurring subscription just for access to play?

The whole concept of subscriptions applied to elite dangerous is so far out of scope imo.

You are five years too late for complaining about that really. I found out what the idea was for buying in, networking, modes and such then used that to decide if I would buy or not.

Informed purchasing choices equal a happy gamer.

If I was to buy a cosmetic (even though I don't even bother to click the link for the free ones) I'd have a look at screenshots first so I'd be unlikely to regret it.

Some kits are amazing, while others are very kitbash. I think this is down to FD having a limited pool of parts that they use between ships, and that these parts don't follow the design cues of the ship very well (or paint jobs in some cases).

For example I love my Krait ][ Asp and Corvette kits, but the T-6 and DBS/X just leaves me cold as they scream 'lunchtime kitbash'.

Its also irksome they don't show on holo projections, and that you have so few definable areas (in that you can't pick out one particular part).

It's all personal opinion. That's why there are different pieces of the kit for different tastes. Usually I find part of the set I like. And usually the previews in livery outfitting helps me decide. If one doesn't like the whole set, well the store extras are entirely optional.

As I said, the shape of the kit is personal opinion(even though they are copypasting everything lately), but the fact that the kit parts are not part of the ship mesh and so the shader gets weird is objectively poor craftmanship.

I agree, some are good, but still they seem clunkily connected.. Also being the parts so few, it is very hard to get the feel that your ship is unique in the universe. This is probably my main complain.

You are ofc totally right OP. The white knights as you saw dont wanna see negative critisism and they just defend defend defend. I have never bought a single ship kit in all the years i play, because of the very very high price and the very low quality. It ofc doesn't make any difference, because indeed many people just want to customize their ships and want their ships to show cool so they buy those low quality designs, as they dont have other options. The amount of sales ofc doesn't give the right to the company to keep throwing out crap like that.
And the link from the kickstarter you posted, no one from the white knights seem to care. They just use the usual excuses that include everything but what the company should do to correct this mess.

- I have however bought some skins and bobbleheads to support them over the years, but the kits are just plain wrong in so many ways.

I wasn't sure at the first post, but having read the rest of the thread my conclusion is that OP has simply come online for an argument. Well, enjoy...

Whilst I don't agree with how the OP was worded; I do agree with the overall message. I am paying for something, I expect a certain amount of effort and quality. Given the rest of the game is gorgeous af, the sub-par quality of the kits stands in stark contrast.

I bought the kit for the Viper when it came out, I was absolutely appalled at the low effort, low quality of the product. The fact that I can't refund the purchase means, additionally, Frontier doesn't have much incentive to do better.

I would really like them to start making the ship kits with a bit more effort and love.

If for argument you mean highlighting a problem, and discussing it, yes that was my intent. Because if the community keeps ignoring these low efforts from the devs, we are in for a substandard new era.

Oh well...

Anyone remember the Freudian slip when Ship Kits were 1st announced in the Forum? Someone forgot to swap the internally used "t" for the "p" ;)
I guess they fully knew they were trying to sell "limited quality" items for Premium money, mildly put.

While quality over time varied (vastly depends on Ship and Paintjob), my biggest gripe has always been the lack of HUD representation (own HUD and for other Players), on top of poor clipping issues. Fleshing it out at least to the expected minimum.

DIsclaimer : I own a single Shipkit and that's it. For Premium Money spent in the store I expect Premium Quality. Personally just not seeing it but personal mileage with these obviously varies alot.

Shame on you. Ship kits are not consistent (both the shaders and geometry) with paintjobs, ship pieces are badly aligned and thrown there without any attention.

I advise any white knight to refrain from defending these lousy jobs, you will just give them an incentive to keep lowering the bar.

I remind fdev these cosmetics are not free and constitute the income for the game, so they should be of superior quality.

You should visit this link so that you may refresh the enthusiasm you had during the kickstarter campaign, it seems this enthusiasm is just showcased now in empty announcements.

If you don't like it, don't buy it.

I really do not care. Such an inconsequential thing to get annoyed about.

Oddly I seem much much happier than you about the game despite you being the one of us that chose to pay FDEV extra.

Proof that you just can't buy happiness maybe.

Mixing works well too:

Worn Horus and Spikes are nice.

My friend, or if you are thinking I'm not your friend, pal: shame on you for coming here to shame on the developers of the game you play over cosmetics. I got news for you: you. don't. need. to. buy. them. Specially. if. you. think. they. are. not. up. your. own. standards.
