Supercruise Assist, Netflix & Chill

I will actually stick....no idea what on my trading ships. I just can't decide if it's the advanced docking computer or supercruise assist. It's cruel that large and medium ships only get one more slot. I will not waste any slot bigger than 1 for the assistance modules. Size 1 is 2t less cargo, size 2 is already 4t.
No choice needed for me, all my ships run with DC's so it's just a simple swap when I return from DWE2

Elite just got a little less dangerous.

Soon it'll be called Elite: Slightly more dangerous than an pink ball of fluff...
Fun fact: the immediate predecessors to this game had an autopilot where you could click a button and it would take off, put you into on course to your chosen destination and land you. The only intervention was engaging the Stardreamer time control and dealing with an interdiction.

In short: get over it. It's had it before and it is coming again.

I have a feeling the Supercruise Assist is just the first step in a long journey towards space legs. That way you can leave the pilot chair and go about other tasks on your ship and know that your ship isn't going impact a moon at the speed of light.

Or at least that's what I am hoping.
For me it's a clear sign they didn't even begin thinking about space legs yet, otherwise assist would be a core functionality rather than an optional module.

Hmm, seems will confirmed the module WON'T steer in the stream last night, so it's similar to 'blue zone' throttle. Meh.

Do you have the quote? My understanding is it won't steer the ship to initially align, however it will hold the course (or heading) once you have aligned to the target. Perhaps some people are expecting SCA to actually steer the ship to align with the target.

I'm all for the new modules, but it just made me wonder whether the motivation of the developers in the case of the Supercruise Assist function was to make it more convenient for those players who like to have Netflix or some other diversion running while they wait out their travel times.

That's not a bad thing, as the need for a diversion is a function of the supercruise mechanic itself, and not the new automation module. So as long as supercruise continues to function as it does, the module is at least a mitigating factor that eases multitasking.

I do hope that it's an interim plan though, as going forward I'd much rather some meaningful in-ship activities that can be accomplished en route, or an alternate supercruise travel mode that balances increased risk, difficulty, and costs, for a reasonable reduction in travel time, which I've talked about more on the Suggestions forum.
You Don't have to use Netflix if you rarely travel the 5% stations that are long distance 15 minutes or less and other 5% shorter distance.

Thinking about this further, it does help out explorers a lot. They can lock on to a X hundred thousand away stellar object and hit the assist button.

As long as it's able to maneuver, otherwise you'll quickly head in the wrong direction without course correcting.

And which significant task would you do in the meantime? Polish some handles? Sort some cargo? File your tax return?
Come on people, this is still a game. You wouldn't want to do everyday tasks on a regular basis.
