What incentive do new players have to stop using supercruise assist?

Well, its pretty clear now frontier don't like supercruise and are building into the game ways out of it.

Was just thinking for the new supercruise assist function, say a new player follows along and gets used to playing elite in the new world. I suspect its going to be common that because there's actually no or very minimal incentive in turning off supercruise assist... people will get used to having it on permanently. If you "grew up" with it, then compared it to turning it off, why would you?

Apart from in combat ships, its already far too easy to fit a docking computer in all but the combat focused ships (that mainstream dont use because of jump range), and we just got another slot for it...

The only speculation is wouldn't that leave supercruise itself in an odd place over time? I'm one of the oddballs that's loves supercruise, but have to admit, that headlook is the primary gameplay there, and you can still do that with the assist on... Taking away the only subtle science gameplay part of it via a module won't leave much there for the non headlookers.

It was also really spooky when during the livestream they said as a feature you're freed up to do other things (and stopped from saying tabbing out from the game). Adam woods using the words 'none of the playing the game dev magic' in a livestream about a video game was also top stuff.

New player here...granted, I didn't start with one like people will soon...but my incentive would be that it's faster doing it yourself and to get the slot for something else.

Regarding the docking computer....I actually already love the docking computer without the enhanced version existing yet.... cause I'm lazy that way...but I have only managed to be able to fit it into 4 of my current fleet of 9 ships. I'm very much looking forward to having the slot to finally fit one in my T9 Mining ship. No way I'll ever put one in a combat-focused ship though, unless they limit a few slots to ONLY that type of module. And this is coming from someone who does "waste slots" on a collector limpet and cargo bay when doing PvE combat.

I missed him saying that ! I've always maintained this is a precursor to being able to walk around our ships in the 2020 update; these automated flight controls would allow us to do so. Wow, thanks for mentioning it 🙂

As far as noobs having incentive to discard it. Well, apart from gaining a slot, there is the issue of being limited to cruising (apparently) in the blue zone. That might give pirates the advantage in catching them in supercruise if they do that. If so, that would give the incentive to disconnect it and proceed at fastest evasive speed and route, even using the loop at the end to speed up the process of reaching safe harbor !

Well super cruise is basically boring unless you're hopping between planets or trying to interdict someone. Going to a station 130000 light seconds away might be profitable and grindy but it is certainly not exciting. At least not for people who haven't glued their eyelids open. The fact that people say they watch Netflix in the process tells me they're not really into long supercruises either. They're not paying attention. I've taken a shower and had a meal during the Smeaton runs.

This SA idea has some benefits for veteran players which are:
1) PvP - you can bet a lot of new Cmdr's will use the new system which means they will use it like cruise control. Basically this means PvP and murdering them will be to easy for like minded Cmdr's as you can bet some won't be at the controls whilst cruising.

2) optional slot - us vets can use the extra slot or slots on small ships for more stuff heck I might try a Sidey again with two extra slots it would be more feasible :)

So let's embrace the new ideals as we will see tons of ships flying in straight lines from nav beacons to stations in the systems and for some they will be fish in a barrel.

The incentive would be to arrive at the destination faster. It's not like you can go afk using them - the first pirate interdiction will prove that!

The new auto pilot and assist modules should be built in to every ship. Then extra slots wouldn't be needed. It's misleading to characterise them as "just size 1", most people will be using the new slots to free up larger ones.

I also believe auto-land/launch at starports should cost credits, proportional to laden weight. These fees would be waived in the starter systems (Dromi).

I am probably going to install both, SCA and ADC. I don't have any trouble docking or flying in SC, but I'll use it when I want to check the galaxy map or the codex while flying long distances.
There are a few incentives not to use it though:
It uses a module slot where you could also fit a DDS, limpet controller or defensive modules. It seems to be slower than manual approach since it only flies at 75%. Most importantly though, as a experienced player I learned how to always drop out in front of the station. I always check the station hologram, look for the entrance and fly an arc that allows me drop out right in front of the letter box, that's something the SCA can't do. So it's very likely that I'll only use it when I want to do something else in-game simultaneously.

Your claim is unreasonable and ridiculous.
Do you have a quote of them saying so?

Providing something akin to an autopilot which folk have been asking for ages doesn't mean that the devs don't like one of the best design decision they made earlier.

What's the betting that the new module in the next release after 3.4 will automate orbit -> planetary base, the only part you still have to do for yourself?

Which will be fine, as they'll give us another size 1 slot for free - woohoo :)
Geez, we'll be up to 16 tons of assistive computers in no time. What is this, 2001 A Space Odyssey?
