It's taken a few years, but I did get to CQC not that long ago.
My own mileage, for what it's worth, varies.
In some matches even bothering to move from my spawn point was fairly pointless - my opponents were are 3x or 4x Prestiged levels more than 20 above me, and I was pretty much one-shot dead. I didn't really care. I still got points, still got ranks, still got unlocks. I just didn't have to try to do anything for them.
Other matches, I'd find myself matched with players similar to myself - reasonable low ranked, no Prestige, not much clue what they were doing. Fairly even matches, and my wins and losses reflected this. I got more points, more ranks, more unlocks. Ok, cool.
And then there would be matches with that one guy who Prestiges 3 times a day because he can, someone close to me in level and aptitude, and either another How-Many-Times-A-Day-Can-I-Prestige or someone just starting to CQC for the first time. Zero chance of actually scoring a win, because the two other players simply had access to all the modules twice+ over, and CQC is probably the only thing they play. Sometimes took second place though - learned to simply stay away from the P+++++++ guys, because I couldn't dent their shields before they'd basically one-shot me. I think I did manage to bring one or two of them down a few times, just by waiting for one of them to kill the other and be fairly brutalized, and then pop him by surprise.
And of course, my last, and most favorite - the matches against that guy or couple guys who knew I was a rookie in CQC and pretty much ignored me, but made absolutely sure they took the kill shot on everything I went after, denying me the points, just so they could finish first. Good for them. Once again, I still got points, still got ranks, still got unlocks.
Don't really care about CD-R OutD8ed YU-NO-Use-MP3 or whatever system permit you get from CQC. I play because I'm really out exploring the galactic rim, and sometimes being 30+ kLy away from anything or anyone gets, well, gets me craving doing something else for a change of pace.
I'm old enough, wise enough and mature enough to have learned and fully expect that there are those people, especially when it comes to games, who simply must Win at Everything, because to not Win At Everything means their lives and their very existence is meaningless and they simply cannot accept this - so they cheat, or take every possible advantage, even it it costs them hundreds of dollars they could spend on dates, if they didn't live in their mom's basements where they've been for the last 30 years, and will likely be for the next 30. They're not hurting anyone, they're not contaminating the gene pool, so... what they do just don't matter to me. Sooner or later they'll get bored and go away, or their moms will finally make them get jobs, or find dates, or they'll simply be buried alive under unopened boxes and live cats and never been seen again - until episode 1000 of Hoarders, when their partially mummified remains are excavated - still seated in front of their PC's, waiting for the next match to queue.
