There are people cheating at CQC.

It's taken a few years, but I did get to CQC not that long ago.

My own mileage, for what it's worth, varies.

In some matches even bothering to move from my spawn point was fairly pointless - my opponents were are 3x or 4x Prestiged levels more than 20 above me, and I was pretty much one-shot dead. I didn't really care. I still got points, still got ranks, still got unlocks. I just didn't have to try to do anything for them.

Other matches, I'd find myself matched with players similar to myself - reasonable low ranked, no Prestige, not much clue what they were doing. Fairly even matches, and my wins and losses reflected this. I got more points, more ranks, more unlocks. Ok, cool.

And then there would be matches with that one guy who Prestiges 3 times a day because he can, someone close to me in level and aptitude, and either another How-Many-Times-A-Day-Can-I-Prestige or someone just starting to CQC for the first time. Zero chance of actually scoring a win, because the two other players simply had access to all the modules twice+ over, and CQC is probably the only thing they play. Sometimes took second place though - learned to simply stay away from the P+++++++ guys, because I couldn't dent their shields before they'd basically one-shot me. I think I did manage to bring one or two of them down a few times, just by waiting for one of them to kill the other and be fairly brutalized, and then pop him by surprise.

And of course, my last, and most favorite - the matches against that guy or couple guys who knew I was a rookie in CQC and pretty much ignored me, but made absolutely sure they took the kill shot on everything I went after, denying me the points, just so they could finish first. Good for them. Once again, I still got points, still got ranks, still got unlocks.

Don't really care about CD-R OutD8ed YU-NO-Use-MP3 or whatever system permit you get from CQC. I play because I'm really out exploring the galactic rim, and sometimes being 30+ kLy away from anything or anyone gets, well, gets me craving doing something else for a change of pace.

I'm old enough, wise enough and mature enough to have learned and fully expect that there are those people, especially when it comes to games, who simply must Win at Everything, because to not Win At Everything means their lives and their very existence is meaningless and they simply cannot accept this - so they cheat, or take every possible advantage, even it it costs them hundreds of dollars they could spend on dates, if they didn't live in their mom's basements where they've been for the last 30 years, and will likely be for the next 30. They're not hurting anyone, they're not contaminating the gene pool, so... what they do just don't matter to me. Sooner or later they'll get bored and go away, or their moms will finally make them get jobs, or find dates, or they'll simply be buried alive under unopened boxes and live cats and never been seen again - until episode 1000 of Hoarders, when their partially mummified remains are excavated - still seated in front of their PC's, waiting for the next match to queue.

They're welcome to try, but it turns out that it's less effective than just getting a bunch of people who play regularly and opening fire on each other without regard to who is in what squadron. We play fairly and have more points than the next several combined [1] - so the cheating can't be very effective...

[1] For the avoidance of doubt, I believe that all of the other top 10 squadrons on PC are also playing fairly. The cheaters are nowhere near a trophy place.

The ship maybe makes 20% difference in performance if you pick the right outfitting. Just one aspect of skill - pips control - makes you ~250% more resistant to damage when shields are up. You'd die exactly as much if the experienced player was using the basic rank 1 Condor.

And with most of the outfitting variants being either downgrades, highly specialist sidegrades, or requiring a lot of skill to get any use out of ... making them all available at rank 1 would be a good way to get beginners killed even faster as they picked terrible loadouts. At least this way they start off in one of the better possible builds and can't break it too badly for a while...

Chevrons are the symbol for Prestige 8. If they're 50+chevrons they've gone through the Prestige cycle the maximum number of times, so are the equivalent of rank 450, and must have enough XP to hold either Legend or Elite rating. Pictures of all the prestige symbols are at https://elite-dangerous.fandom.com/wiki/CQC_Championship

We also thought the cheating was not effective until this season... Our squadron have won the last two seasons and were again winning this one (PS4). We recruit new players, get them involved in CQC and teach them how to play it. We welcome all challengers and promote honest competitive PvP... Howber, this season in just the last couple weeks a squadron has come in, they spend all day in CQC just sitting there without shields while teamstes kill them. Usually this doesn't work for the cheater as we show up and fight and score legitimate points... but this squadron quits as soon as we enter the game. We switch modes to chase them, and they switch again. Then they time out until we get bored, come back and start boosting again. By lowering their shields and having one player kill all of them, while refusing to fight anyone fairly, they have very effectively cheated, and its now hard to actually combat this as we just can't catch them in a match with them combat logging and switching modes. It's likey they will now win this season through boosting. Reported this to Fdev but alas I doubt they will be repremanded. CQC on PS4 has turned into an exploiters heaven recently. We issue challenges for TDM but you can't compete with players that just won't fight you

Exactly! So new players are bound to lose because they don't know how to evade and they don't have bonus to make it easier. When you gain the experience you also have the bonus..so unbalanced

Well, to be fair Matty, I think that's the same in anything, right? Your name is SenseiMatty, so from that I'm guessing an interest in Martial Arts... Me too... and training in different styles its all the same thing, in any game, in any sport... A beginner cannot expect to win easily against a seasoned veteran with lots of experience. It's not unbalanced, its just natural progression. At first I died and died and died constantly... but each defeat was a lesson on how to improve... eventually I became one of the top CQC players on PS4. I think the key to help the progression is just finding a group that has the time and enjoyment to give tips on how to improve. That's what our squadron has been doing until the recent burst of cheating. We see new guys in there struggling, add them to a PSN chat and give out free tips and try to encourage players skill level so there is more competition and fun... I'm sure there must be some groups like that on PC also?

Wait, wot?

There's a system in-game that has a CQC locked permit?

That system would be:
CD-43 11917 One must have the rank of "Prestige" in CQC.

That's pretty nasty stuff - good luck with dealing with it.

Hopefully Frontier will act on it, though it's hard to say exactly what rule has been broken - most of the other leaderboards also have a way to the top that's nothing to do with fair play, and Frontier so far doesn't seem to have done anything there either.

People are using their alt accounts to queue up for games and just kill their alt accounts over and over again. Queued into someone doing that today.

Just thought you guys at FD should know about it. I don't know if you care about it however.

I'm surprised people are even playing it.:D

Video games are full of cheaters. That's why there's solo mode. CQC is just bypassing solo mode. That's inviting cheaters into your world. Kudos to you guys who can put up with it but that's not me.

Solo doesn't remove you from the influence of cheaters, unless you're able to completely ignore the effects of the BGS.

With only two days to go on leaderboard season, it doesn't look like Fdev will reprimand them, though we sent in evidence of exploits. Funny, they will win all three combat leaderboards this season on PS4, but there is only a handful of them active.

Don't think it really matters considering CQC is dead. Nuff sed.

CQC wasn't dead on PS4, and it matters to those that play.

But at the end of the day, it is just a game, and like others said, there will always be cheaters. Just a shame nothing is ever done to combat the cheating.

Please explain how the BGS affects me in Solo. I dont grind rep or influence and dont do PP (despite my Inara sig).

I'll admit to this sort of cheat in normal game, but on a mission. Just couldn't find anyone that wanted to share the mission, so I thought "why not". One 2nd cmdr 20,000,000 richer.
It quite a challenge to run between rooms to fly the mission for both cmdrs. So it wasn't a complete cheat, both contributed.

Please explain how the BGS affects me in Solo. I dont grind rep or influence and dont do PP (despite my Inara sig).

The BSG influences or controls:

  • The prices and stock of commodities and outfitting.
  • The availability of certain station services.
  • Missions.
  • System states, security, and NPC spawns.
  • Contents of USSes.
  • Access to permit locked systems.
  • How much of a system is revealed with a ping and how much you have to scan to fill in.
  • Probably quite a few things I'm missing.

The whole reason there is a Solo mode, but no offline mode, is that there are no mechanisms in place for a dynamic setting without CMDR input. You cannot play the game without affecting the setting in some way for everyone, and you'd have to be completely oblivious to not notice everyone else's impacts on your experience through the BGS.

The general level of CQC is quite high now, because many of the people still playing are good at it... but that is what it is, skill... most of the improved gear for CQC comes at a very early level, hell even the starter Federal fighter with pulse and chaff is hardly outclassed.

when CQC 1st started i was good, and won far more than i lost (rare for me in MP games) but the last time i went on, i got owned...... but it wasnt because of uber gear. i just need to practice more.

some of the regulars make a point of going easy on the new players to try to get them to stay in the game.

this is utter nonsense, people who do that really grind my gears Gears of war devs used to have a contact email for cheaters and if you uploaded a video to google drive and send them a link, they would perm ban players from the online part of the game. it is a shame FD do not do similar. yes it is some man power but CQC is tough enough to get a game as it is, having people like that ruining it is just more nails to the coffin.

Yh it's a real shame... somehow this one group has managed to out perform squadrons of 4-6 times their size in all 3 combat leaderboards and will win all 3 this season... can't speak to Xeno and NPC combat as I haven't witnessed what they are doing to win those, but we've seen first hand the exploits they are using in CQC. With nothing being done our entire squadron has given up and just stopped loggin in to Elite. Such a shame. We love some honourable competition and the ledaerboards where a great addition along with Squadrons, but on PS4 at least, this has now turned into a haven for exploiters / cheaters... which undermines the whole point to competitive Leaderboards, and so surprising the devs dont take action on it. It really does feel like Elite is slowly being suffocated and a real shame

Too bad but I can understand... CQC is terribly unbalanced. Higher ranks got very strong ships and outfittings. There's no real competition if someone sucks in dogfighting but he got a ship ten times better. It turns out that in cqc the stronger ships win
Actually... The base ship options in CQC are far more competitive than Open gameplay is in the main game. A good pilot in the starter ships has a very good chance against an average pilot int he highest tier ships.
