What other games are we all playing?

I loved Descent back in the day - does Everspace have 6DOF, or at the very least the ability to hover and move laterally? Also, can you detail what you mean by losing the pilot on death.

Oh, and I'm a cockpit flyer vs. 3rd person flyer, so how's that cockpit view? Is there a headlook feature?

Starting with the simple stuff: you have 6DoF control (rotation and translation on all 3 axis) and you pretty much need it. It's really more like playing Descent than anything so mouse/keyboard works so much better it's not even funny. I tried a controller for a while hoping to get a relaxed playing position, but it throws off the the quick/precise targetting so back to m+k. The cockpit view is what it is: it's there if you like the cockpit surrounding... It doesn't offer much though. Since I dislike the 3rd person flying too, personally I play in first person with cockpit off (everything as HUD). Don't think there's headlook, but then, maybe...

As for death... There's a storyline that explains why you keep doing what you do and why you "respawn" after death. Won't spoil it, but it's there. So what happens is that every time you die (or everytime you win a run), all the credits you accumulated across the run, you spend on permanent upgrades. There are two categories of upgrades: upgrades to the pilot, which apply all the time as it's you, and upgrades to the ship, which only apply when you fly said ship. Each ship has different upgrades, and there are three ships in the base game, as well as an additional fourth in the DLC. So as you keep dying, you do slowly get a better start each time. I wouldn't hesitate to start in Easy, as even with the lower rewards, you'll get farther, will probably enjoy each run more, and will ultimately get more cash for upgrades. Difficulty can be changed every time you start a new run, so you're never locking yourself up.

As for what a 'run' is, it's a bit like in FTL. You run through a number of sectors, each one being a number of connected areas. You jump from area to area towards the sector exit, at which point you get to jump to the next sector. Last sector only has the one endgame location and if you beat that one you "won". Each area is a bit like a CQC map in ED. You can jump out to the next as early as you want (unless there's a jump suppressor, in which case you need to track it down and destroy it), but you also want to salvage fuel and crafting materials to replenish your missiles for example (corrosion missiles are where it's at) rather than replace them altogether with the next drop.

Playing World of Warships still, and aside I think I'll finally play through AC: Black Flag.
I don't feel like playing Skyrim VR though, it is just too heavy on my senses, the elevation changes on foot are heavy.
At the moment I'm looking for a raison d'etre for my Rift, the next item will be NMS VR when it launches.
If it won't click, I think I'll sell the Rift.

Bought God of War, but didn't like it at all. Brain dead action and game mechanics that are far too accessible for my taste. It's like the game plays you and not the other way around. Shelved it, and started a new save on RDR2 instead. What a game!!

Mostly Elite: Dangerous. Break it up with playing some Eve: Online. Then I'm back to Elite: Dangerous. I got bored of playing Subnautica, but I'm not creating posts on their forums about how bored I am. I just play Elite: Dangerous or something else instead.

Miss Eve Online very much. Played it for 9 years. No game comes close to Eve for me but I had to quit it was quite destructive in real life.

Eve is one of those games I love reading about but hate playing. 😄 Looks so awesome with those huge battles.

I'm trying out Metro Exodus again now that Nvidia have upgraded their drivers to support RTX ray-tracing on GTX cards. I hadn't realised what a difference it made, especially in Exodus which has the full monty RTX effects rather than just shadows and/or reflections like SOTR or BFV... Exodus has multiple light source, shadows, reflections and ambience... and it's absolutely stunning even on my GTX 1080ti.

Framerates range from 55 upward @1080p with medium RTX and ultra detail settings...pretty impressive. At higher resolutions, the frame rate noticably dips though...so if you can't
bear poor old 1080p since you're too posh and all...don't bother...or take a mortgage out on a dedicated RTX card ;)

I plumped out and got myself the premium membership for Origin. Theres actually loads of stuff I don't have that make it worth my while.

First on the list: Star Wars Battlefront 2.

I played the mp when the game first came out but it didn't gel with me at the time so I refunded. However I've heard its mature into a great game now that it's a bit down the road.

Mainly wanted to pick it up for the MP for the above reason BUT I thought I'd ease myself back in and play the campaign.

... it's really really good! Has a real SW feeling to it and it's great to play as an imperial. It also looks amazing graphically.

I don't really care about the MP in Battlefront (Played like two matches and it just isn't for me) but yeah, the campaign is great. I'm actually thinking of replaying it some time soon as I'm quickly running out of things to play, atm.
And also I agree about the Origin Access. I said it on multiple occasions but that service is actually great as it gives you access to basically WHOLE Origin library.

Indeed and what was holding me back was that I already owned much of the catalogue. But having read in detail a bit more.

  • Anthem (which I am currently not going to play but I will do so)
  • SW Battlefront 2
  • Darksiders 3
  • The new SW game coming in November

That's enough to justify the subscription for me at the moment.

As for the campaign in SWBF2, very very good. If the new SW game can tap into some of this style then it ought to be a decent romp

The best part of the Origin Access is that you can simply switch between basic and premium at your leisure, depending on which game interests you at the moment so you can save even more while still having access to hundreds or thousands bucks worth of games.
And yeah, I'm looking forward to the new SW game. I've just recenly replayed Jedi Outcast and enjoyed it quite a bit. (though, damn it was hard! I got rusty big time. Modern games make you lazy).
The SWBF2's campaign was great because it really captured the spirit of SW - Epic moments, funny moments, tragic moments, space battles, lightsabers, you name it. Plus being able to re-live all the characters, each with a different play style and bit of an insight into them... It was fun. Not a single boring bit.

As a big fan of Silent Hunter 2 and 3 I bought the new sub sim called UBOAT (avilable on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/494840/UBOAT/).
To be perfectly honest I did not expected much (many bad memories with recent "early access" unity based games hehe) but to my surprise I felt right at home with this one - being back in Silent Hunter but on steroids.
Yes, game has plethora of bugs and technical issues at the moment but you can tell from the start that this is spiritual successor os SH serie made by the team that actually give a damn.
Looks like I got me new massive time sinker!

Sounds interesting I'll have a lookup on this on release. Not really wanting a buggy play through of something like this.
