FSS crashing when zooming in on bodies over 40,000Ls away

I'm going to pretend to be Wight Night and say, "I'm tired of you people calling things game-breaking when they are not! Is your disc actually broken? Did your PC shatter into pieces? If not, then this is not game-breaking! You are ruining Frontier's reputation with these words.. STOP IT!!!"

And then I'd brag about how I can work around the bug by flying 40,000 LS and just scan whatever up close, because I'm just so cool.

But it's not because I'm koowell it's cos I'm old fashioned

i've been out exploring since chapter 4 dropped and i've only noticed this very recent. But when i zoom in on a body this happens

i have to fly out to a distant star to scan the bodies. This is really breaking the game. i've reported the issue and i see others are getting a black screen as to my funny screen collapse back into 1D

I'm on PC and I FSS scanned a ton of systems last night, some with bodies over 300,000ls out and no crashes for me. I can't reproduce this.

I can quite understand that, I think it's a set of circumstances which causes the problem, I've scanned a heap with no ill effects and then suddenly it changes, originally I thought it was because I'd changed my HUD colour... (immediately prior to my first problem) the reality was a coincidence.

I had the same issue it seems to happen when there are a high number of items clustered very tightly together and on the first 'zoom in' and it breaks. I took a small video clip but don't have anywhere to upload it. Although it looks like those some have already posted.

Agreed. Probably it's the clustering at long distances... limit seems to be around 40kls if it's more that 6 objects to be revealed.

The distance doesnt matter, actually. It's more your ships alignment to the body youre trying to scan. It has done this to me with objects less than 4k LS away. Point your ship toward the body in question and then go back to FSS and it will work. This is VERY frustrating and a MAJOR bug! Especially for those of us who are dedicated explorers!! This needs fixed ASAP!!!

Same for me. Can confirm. Also if you noticed there one more bug appeared: when you do zoom out in the FSS an "aim" moves to a "central" body like a gas giant (if you scanning a satellite). It's really annoying.

Ahoy! o7
@Old Duck haha, so true.

Any way...
I have this issue as well, i noticed by leaving FSS and reentering it fixes its self. THought this has only happned once. Ill be exploring again this week, ao if it happnes again ill be sure to send in a BUG report :)

Game Braking? hmm..... let me see....:unsure:.. nah it's not :)

Also i notice when u get this bug planets in the NAV window also DO NOT show up as unexplored so not lonely is the but the main navigation window is also not working as it should be

Yep, if you are exploring or need to find targets its a game breaker. IMO the amount of testing they put into patches is about the same amount they care about the playerbase and the game.

I think there are two bugs related to the FSS here. One is as reported per the OP and the other is the FSS "distortion" issue.

For the first one, after the screen goes "wonky", the text reduces in size and is displayed at an odd angle then the "orbit" lines start to dance about. One zooms out and - I, for one - see something like this:

As far as I can see, both bugs have been confirmed - is that FDEV saying they recognise the issues and are working on it? I'm not sure if that's what it means :)

I can only hope so as exploration is now really frustrating and, in the last system I got this in, I think there were over 50 unexplored and un-mapped ELW's just waiting to be tagged by me. Along with 15 or so AW's and WW's. And a shed load of HMC's. OK, my tongue just got stuck to my cheek but it is a little annoying :D

New here, first post, hello all.

I'm having the same issues. Zooming in causes the scene to turn / rotate (left?). Allowing it to run away with itself, all manner of weird things happen especially when attempting to move the target reticle. Zooming back out gives me a scene as shown in the image of Tyres O'Flaherty's post above ^. For me the issue appears to be distance related; if I move to within 100,000ls or so then things function normal. It's annoying, but the game is still playable as such.

Also, as I've seen mentioned elsewhere, scans of bodies with geological features take forever.

And, bodies show the blue 'mapped' overlay (maybe) 50% of the time even when they've not been mapped.

Almost a week no community dev reply to this topic and yet it must be well known by now at least they could do is reply to the topic at hand i notice a small update today but still not fixed if i had known it was going to be this bad i would of stayed in the bubble and run missions instead of taken the trip to Colonia for the first time out of the bubble
