Sad trombone for large ship fans

It is so hard to be a fan of the large ships right now in Elite Dangerous.

First they ruined large ships for mining by making the Imperial Clipper, Python, or Krait the meta for core mining. Don't get me wrong, mining in the Clipper is fun. But this was really disappointing as it was the one raison d'etre that sort of made sense for ships like the Type-10. What is the point of that ship being in the game now? Right, now it is just a cumbersome waste of time to mine in that ship.

Frontier still have NEVER made single player haulage missions for the large ships. Still, in 2019. All of the missions still max out at the Pyuthon 220t or so (most being 180t). There is no progression for haulage missions after the Python. Yeah you can try stacking the missions but then you deal with higher spawn rates for pirates, etc. Haulage missions stop being fun after you move up from the Python. Python! Python! Python! Ugh....

Now we come to today's news. They are excluding large ships altogether from the trade goal of the Interstellar Initiative. Small and medium ships only. Basically the Python is what everyone will use to maximize profits. I was actually looking forward to bringing my Type-9 out there but now there is no point. I hate having my hand forced like that. Play your own way as long as you like the Python and/or Krait!

Please Frontier, not all of us want to fly the Python or the Krait Mk II all the time. Please remember that some of your players really like the large ships and I think we are starting to feel neglected and excluded. I don't think we should have to wait until 2020 to have a little consideration shown for the large ships that some of us really love to fly.

I'm sorry, but are you suggesting that you have to play using "the best" ship for a given task? Because you don't. Use what you want, don't worry about others' profit margins, and outside of pvp there is no meta as all other activities are non-competitive. Now you can stop stressing over nothing.

That is a valid point of view but not one that I ascribe to. Part of the fun for many CMDR's is trying to optimize your build on your ship to achieve the best results. The large ships should have roles that they are better suited for that actually matter in the game. Also, that doesn't change the fact that the large ships are excluded from this Interstellar Initiative, nor the fact that there are no single player haulage missions for large ships as well.

I do feel that the large ships are neglected right now and I am guessing I am not the only one.

I used to take some of the wing hauling missions in my T9. "Haul 3,400 tons of mineral oil to XXXX station" for several million credits. 5 trips and I was done.

EDIT- or maybe it was the wing - source a certain item and bring to a station, cannot remember which one it was, maybe both?

I don't understand the salt about this one.

So FDev is still trying to wean people away from the big, the most bestest ships.

Adjust.

You can't use a large ship because you can't land at the ruins (you can, it is hard to find a spot, but I've found them) or you can't drop stuff off because they are all outposts?

If you check the thread on the Interstellar Initiative Will stated that the trade CG is limited to small/medium ships only. Probably because outposts are the only delivery targets. I don't think getting the artifacts would be a problem because it seems like they are adding USS's for scavengers.

I suppose they wanted to give the impression of a frontier settlement in the middle of nowhere. Trying to fill up 500t by scouring USSs would give me a case of the space madness, so maybe this isn't such a bad limitation in this case. This initiative is probably only a dummy run to test things out anyway.

Next time though, I'm expecting a purple Cutter with a gold interior and a space cat as a reward. ;)

Can large ships dock on the ferry? That's all you have to do to get the decal, which by the sounds of it is the most compelling thing to come from this initiative.

Not a fan of this kind of attitude and I wish Frontier would stop listening to people like this. Catering to these sorts of folks has really driven the game into the ground reducing every play mechanic to a boring, samey chore. The sooner these people quit in disgust the sooner Frontier can start making their gameworld varied and meaningful. There’s a huge audience out there for something other than ego stroking number-raising clicker games, and I wish the devs would recognize this instead of chasing after the mobile market, but on PC. I hope it’s not too late.

I hardly think that is fair. I have no problem with folks disagreeing with my points, but you could make the same argument against any good faith feedback.

There’s no good faith feedback for “why can’t I do everything MYYYYYY way?” You either automatically intuitively understand why it’s great and necessary and wonderful for a game to have different tools for different mutually exclusive or mutually inefficient tasks, or you demand that everything be accessible everywhere in every way with every tool and that the only distinction should be that bigger is always better and time invested should always equal bigger rewards regardless of when where what and how.

You either get it or you don’t and if you don’t get it I don’t think there’s much else to be said other than to express my personal hope that these kinds of preferences never be catered to. Anytime I see someone make a petulant remark about “Play your own way, except X,” I know that they’ve missed the point, which is that Elite is a multifaceted experience with a breadth of play options and possible paths to go down. It doesn’t follow that you should therefore be able to hammer a nail in with a shovel just as effectively as a hammer, or else WHATS THE POINT OF EVEN HAVING A SHOVEL?!?!

This isn’t supposed to be the Burger King of video games or at least it shouldn’t be. That’s my take and I recognize that a lot of people disagree. I’m just stating that I hope those people go away or at least stop talking, and that nobody at Frontier ever listens to them, takes them seriously, or makes any effort whatsoever to please them. Because all of their instincts are wrong and every concession to their desires will make the game worse for everybody including the people who think that they want things like every ship being able to land on every pad, or accommodations and rewards and back-pats for every single load out and play style in every single situation, or whatever. If that’s not you, and I’ve misunderstood your position, then congratulations we’re on the same side and I’m your ally.

This is not my argument at all. I have no problem with the fact that there are some activities in the game that are better suited for small or medium ships. Variety of roles and ships are a universal good in Elite Dangerous. But there should be a balance and in other areas of the game there should then be tangible meaningful advantages for large ships. Right now I am arguing there is almost no reason to choose a large ship in the game at all. Medium ships are almost always a better choice. Also, I would argue its not great for the game to exclude large ships entirely from a major event like this.

Disagree with me on the specific points? That's fine, and Frontier can sort through the discussion and take away from it what they will. However, I strongly disagree that my feedback or concerns are not valid.
