So the new Interstellar initiative is for weapons - YAWN!

What is a pain job?

I don't know, but my hunch is that they avoid the plaque too.

I don't know about the team size left that is tasked with maintenance and updates to Elite but it's obvious they split off a large portion of the group to work on the 2020 project. I would rather have bug fixes than new content at this point but honestly I would be even happier if nothing else gets broken and issues get fixed even if that means they add nothing new to the game until 2020.

I have to say, while the outcome is lame, yet more weapons, I like the plot. I also think that given current game is maintenance mode as everything is being allocated to the development of the big 2020 update, this is quite a good use of the resources available. I do however feel that this is one of those rare occasions where it would have been better if it played out with FDev holding some of the cards close to their chest. If they hand't given us a roadmap of how this interstellar inititative was going to play out over the course of the month, the forums wouldn't have seen so much preemptive angst as this thread typifies. A little bit of smoke and mirrors, a galnet article here or there, and a bit of story telling from FDev unveiling the story arc as it unfolded on thursday night live streams and follow up email news flashes, and it would start to bring the galaxy to life with much more cohesive plot.

Advantage of these weapons is that you can put them on your loadout on top of the AX limit. It's broadening the horizon of AX viable ships. Wonder what sizes they'll come. Can't remember if they stated that.

Size 1 and 2 Fixed MC's and dumbfire missiles that can fire 'regular' ammo or special anti-thargoid ammo that will be hella expensive to make

Could we finally side with the Thargoids and start wrecking the bubble instead?
You know... blaze your own trail! Personal narrative.

Human defector, bound to watch the bubble burn and join the 'Goids. Who's with me?

What would you have preferred it was about? Or the outcome should be?

Exactly! FDev are recycling existing game mechanics, but trying to use them in such a way that they become slightly more immersive and interesting than the old CG formula repeated week after week.

They received massive backlash in the first week which comprised solely of a forum vote (off myself included) which is, I believe, why they revealed the roadmap for the first II so we all had some idea how things were meant to pan out.

Though I'm also dubious about the weapons as a reward kudos to the team for trying something to give us something new which can hopefully be worked on and improved over time.

Tldr; Not a perfect introduction to the new II's but let's see how they develop before completely trashing them.

I cant help wondering what it will take for people to realise what ED is. Look at the previous games. Look at ED. Look at all major update trailers.

"OMG what? Football at the superbowl?! AGAIN?!?!"
"Surely you must have noticed a pattern?"
"Yeah, but I dont like it and keep hoping one day it'll be tennis!"

Was disappointed that it was about weapons, but I don't begrudge it since not everyone has the same play style. I just hope they give other play styles something later on. Like getting a new engineer to lightweight ships hulls at the expense of hit points and armour rating.

Oh, and is it just me that thinks it is odd that we can pay real money for pro-Thargoid ship decals but we cannot side with the Thargoids\no in-game support for pro-Thargoid gameplay?
No I think it's fine. Support the Thargoids.
Just know that to the 'Goids, you're just one of these nut bags:

I guess i'll avoid like the plague then? Far too many weapons already, then engineering them? The grind is strong in this one!

Fingers crossed the next one will be passive

Thoughts?

If your referring to the event involving the Guardian Site at Synuefe EN-H d11-96, then you may be correct. It must be a vessel site, because I tried on two separate occasion by leaving the instance and then returning to get a optional module or a weapons module which takes an Ancient Relic and nothing happen. I then obtained an Ancient Key and because I already have all three, didn't work either.

I'd be more interested in these weapons if they were gimbal / seekers. I'm perplexed with the "logic" of not having such weapons to fight Thargoids.

I am curious about the engineering aspect, however. Can I now have, say, drag munitions that affect Thargoids?

Regardless, I'm sitting this Initiative out due to its lack of...... "initiative".

What would you have preferred it was about? Or the outcome should be?
I don't dislike the idea that Thargoids may interfere with our grind. I expected so.
I hope it's not only about the typical NON-HUMAN USS's.
  • I want to see stations under attack in real time. Players can save the stations fighting back the aliens but this shouldn't last 1 week. That's too much to see some real progress. Servers tick should be on daily basis when FDEV puts a station under attack.
  • I want to have missions where I have to transport guardian commodities away from an attacked station and transfer these to another one with NPC escort and Thargoids interdicting in Supercruise and Witch Space.
  • Same mission but where I can play the escort together with other NPC's and protect a Type9 full of guardian stuff.
  • I want to discover some new type of underground ruin to explore with the SRV and where I can scan some new type of pylons or underground beacons where I can collect guardian data or clues where to find other big stuff.
