Thanks for finding those amazing pictures Steve.

Like many others here, I grew up on Chris Foss's covers to Asimov's books (the Foundation and I Robot stories were inspirational to most of us here I guess).
But the Sparth illustrations are at another level: they have a sense of vastness and wonder that is awesome. Can we have E4 like that please? (Can't remember which one*, but there was a computer game a while back based on HR Giger artwork).

It's an incentive to hurry Frontier, the bar keeps being raised....

p.s. looking on his website, I see he did covers for Heinlein, another childhood s.f. hero of mine (Stranger in a Strange Land anyone?)
Also, that he's signed up to idsoftware, so sadly not much chance of Frontier getting him on board

* It came to me: Dark Seed, but influential in others I think

Who Sparth? Yeah talent there for sure - I love his work. You can deffo see why he was signed up to idSoft. This is the kind of stuff that I would like to see from Frontier - so concept art - obviously with the disclaimer that they may have no relation to the final game etc etc etc, but just to see some of the talent at work behind the scenes.

Oh and you're welcome - I love looking at pictures like these.

Like the 2nd one down of the guy stood in front of the ship, reminds me a lot the images that were created for the paper&pen rpg game Traveller.and the angles falls one a knock out.

Love the contrast between the clean city and slums around (I presume). Is this from an upcoming Id game? If so it won't play on my pc for sure!

Not that I am aware of - it's 3D art - done for the sakes of the art I imagine. It is stunning tho. The guy that did this particular picture doesn't work for ID as far as I know - the guy that did the 'paintings' called Sparth works for ID.

it's one of the great kind of pictures that forces you to think about it..
what's the story behind it ?
Why there is a tecnocity and a late medieval village beside it ?
What was wrong..
..etc.. etc..

i love those kind of pictures,
very intersting:)

It reminds me of a book I read back in the mid 80s called space vikings,As far as I remember the plot was about high tec civilization which takes over a primitive planet too use as base so they can raid near by systems for technology and resources to keep there own world going.

I seem to remember a book by Douglas Hill (I think) on a similar bent called Alien Citadel. The typical type of aliens have wiped out humanity down to a last few and they have reverted to a primitive state and one 'outcast' becomes the hero and saves the world (Very L Ron Hubbard - Battlefield Earth - WORST SCIFI MOVIE EVER!!!).

Haha that looks awesomely bad :D It even looks like they have stolen shots from Star Wars!

The film is even worse in motion it just has to be seen to be believed, and that robot dog what were they somkeing when they came up with that idea?.:D

More great pic there steve, Love that low tec rocket powered looking ship pic called rendezvous. Be great to see something simular in Elite4 where there was a real difference in the technology levels between the empires.

Yeah for sure. I would imagine that the game would be set further in the future than any of the previous games and as such there would be a progression in technology both from a visual and tech level. I would like to see some huge ship graveyards and some proper generation ships/hulks drifting through space.

EDIT: And some massive ships drifting with huge deployed solar sails.

I know that our opinions on the worst film ever is nothing to do with those great pictures, but,
I would like to nominate for worst Sci Fi film ever - "Plan 9 From Outer Space". The story of it is told in the Tim Burton film "Ed Wood" starring Johnny Depp.
Ed Wood jr is regarded as THE worst film maker ever.

Anyway back to great pictures.

EDIT: I've started a new thread about best & worst sci fi films.

Definitely like to see the ship graveyards/generation ship in an elite game, solar sails ship good idea that.

You could also get the difference in tec level by going the way of Asimov Foundation books do,in that there had been a great war with the Thargoids. The Empires had been shattered into smaller groups some high tec/some low tec.A fall of the night as I think Asimov described it in his book.
