Black Boxes Exploding

I have on three separate occasions exploded Black boxes whilst trying to scoop them, am I supposed to have special equipment, or perhaps not scoop at all but scan, maybe I'm supposed to 'think' them aboard...
Just what is the trick with these extremely delicate canisters?
I thought they were supposed to be 'hardy' and survive hell to tell the tale, yet a 1mps contact seems to rub them up the wrong way.

As an aside I have no trouble scooping all the other junk...just the BB's

Thanks War Eagle, I'm not after 'faster' I'm after 'collect no boom'

My ship is not fitted out with limpets or their associated modules, just me and a hole in the front ...underneath (and yes, I did have the target in the box)

Some ships are not handling manual collection well. You may have it in the targeting thingy but it will still bump off the hull instead of going into the scoop. For those ships, using collector limpets is advised. Other ships, like the Viper IV or Chieftain are a pleasure to manually collect with.

Try to have the weapons retracted when scooping
For example, the Python has a biiig weapon dangling right before the cargo hatch and you really cannot scoop in a python with weaps deployed

Also, just as I noticed it in a "Salvagable Wreckage" location, if you are really close to a planetary object, the items can be falling towards that body and make collecting them somewhat more difficult. It's a bit disorienting when the whole wreckage field is falling away from you. Messes with your perception of velocity and direction.

Thanks for your reply's guys.

The ship is a Clipper with 1500+ hours on it, 128 tons of 'Empty' cargo hold

No guns fitted, I simply don't do combat so I have none fitted,

Yes the Black boxes seem to 'hang' about at the entrance like they just don't fit too well, all the time at painfully slow and careful speeds... since the first one went pop for (seemingly) no reason, they just won't have it.

Can't see it's a bug, nobody else seems to have a problem, but three out of three can't be good.

Edit, not in Grav field.. all three wrecks were well away from planets and the stars...250 ls +

I think the clipper is bad for scooping because it's so long you tend to paddly any canisters when they're under you while trying to adjust the cargo targeter for the middle. And the pitch can be deceptively fast, resulting into devastating impacts. Works well for slapping enemy ships, but not so great for containers.

It' looks like I may have to fit a cargo limpet module thingy,
tsk, I was saving that slot for when ED re introduced the ADS map on honk module so I could enjoy exploring again..

I've exploded a couple when I bumped them going faster than 40m/s (crosshair box turns red) but since you were going really slowly it may be ship specific

I don't know how many pips you have to Engines, but if you have one or two or none, the throttle control sensitivity is reduced (as overall throttle travel adds less thrust relative to movement, at least for my control, I use HOTAS). Less pips, more control.

I usually fly a Corvette, which is super stable, so no pips to engine, scooping is a breeze. Other ships not so much. Can't speak to a Clipper, don't own one. But try less pips.
