Well, let's not be all doom and gloom, Codex is not THAT bad overall. The encyclopedia is really well made. Same goes for manual part. Cmdr Personal Info thing is quite OK as well, with all the archive. The core of Codex - the discoveries part is... well, it's not bad as such, but I think it's not what a lot of people expected.

Personally I hoped for a personal Captain's Log with MY discoveries and MY findings - rather than other people's... That I would class as personal narrative. Because MY story in Elite is more important to me than other people's. I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in this.

Exploration to me is DISCOVERY. (And it's perfectly fine if it's something else for other people). But I want to find new stuff myself and as an explorer I care for my discoveries. I don't really care at all what Cmdr Thrust discovered in Bradford (as he's obviously playing version of the game with atmo-landings and space legs by now ;) ). I may go and see it later on, but I'm currently here, doing my thing. And yet all I see in Codex is someone else's adventure. Bradford's miles away anyway.

And that is the most disappointing part of the Codex for me. And that's why I want to know about Rumours, as they seem to be the way to have a personal adventure - following the hint and discovering something.

I'd like to tell you what I think about this thread, in fact I can't wait to tell you, but at the moment I can't.

As soon as I can, I will be telling you all you could possible want to know, you probably won't be able to stop me. Just not now.

How were rumours meant to work, were we all to them automatically, or were we suppose to find them in the game, such as in news articles?

Its not about doom and gloom and i really dont see why you say this. And yes it is THAT BAD when me and others still use edsm and the other sites the same as before (thank God for those external tools that are THAT GOOD).
And yes other people may like the codex, but for me is a failure. Yes it may be a fantastic encyclopedia, but it is just that.. just text.
The personal stuff is mainly the same info about our cmdr that we allready had before, just transfered in the codex.
In a game like this, where exploration is a huge part of it, codex is lacking the absolute minimum stuff that should had concerning OUR PERSONAL DISCOVERIES. Where are my discoveries that i made from the 1st day that i started playing? How many ammonia worlds have i discovered in total? How many earth likes have been discovered in the galaxy? Why it doesn't have a POIs system from cmdrs discoveries like edsm does?
Yea i know that many of you will tell me that they will fix the codex in the future.. i say i dont think so, sorry. There isn't a nice word to describe the codex.. it is the definition of lazy development, in such a vital part of this game which is exploration.

+1

Give this man a job at FD.

A paid one, I mean 😅

Lol. Well with that attitude you've found everything you're gonna ;)
Me personally I have found very little (in the organic side of things) on my own. I refuse to do the tourist thing and visit what others have found.
Since there have been no new discoveries in ages and Fdev haven't hinted at anything or given these rumors then logic states we have found it all :geek::p

How were rumours meant to work, were we all to them automatically, or were we suppose to find them in the game, such as in news articles?

Noone really knows, but this is basically how I imagine it would work :

  • you start seeing a Story in GALnet, i.e. a weird occurrence such as a.... DBX is stolen from a Station Hangar
  • the Story continues and initially ends like "investigators unable to locate the Vessel and for now close the case"
  • 3 weeks later another GALnet article pops up "weak distress Signal from {Galactic Sector} picked up by Deep Space surveillance Network"
  • a rumor appears in Codex for the Galactic Sector "stolen DBX rumored to be lost in the {Galactic Sector}" with a summary of the story background
  • Players can now search the Sector for leads/breadcrumbs to solve the mystery (as it's now confirmed to be in-game content Players can interact with vs. read-only GALnet fluff)
In a nutshell :
GALnet intro of a Story/Mystery -> GALnet narration for a while (Details/possible hints etc.) -> Codex Rumor is eventually seeded and it's now up to the Players to investigate and solve it
