Why don't you start - explain to us all why you think they added the capability to add rumours since you don't think they are ever planning to add any actual rumours?
FDEV - Rumours in Codex - will we ever see them?

Please do go ahead & provide some plausible explanation why there have apparently been none since December? IIRC there were a few in the beta.
Could just be another heavily manual mechanism added to the game that there just aren't the spare resources available for.
No idea what it's supposed to be. I totally agree with DrewCarnegie, if I found pink spacemushrooms or something like that I definitely wouldn't post them on Codex, find your own mushrooms. Old game had this feeling there could be anything out there, now it's all labelled and put a sticker on. Like there only was this one way of playing this, "Planet Elite", and everything else is wrong.
They added the codex, knew it wasn't being revisited until at least 2020, so added the functionality they would need before then.
You know - like they make you select what type of SRV you need, because one day there will be a choice.
Still waiting for the naysayers to explain why they think fdev added it 'for the lolz' with no purpose. Like Raxxla
(Of course the other plausible explanation is that rumour counts are as bugged as the other sector totals, and the rumours are already in-game waiting for someone to look at the codex while in the correct sector

I think our theories have a lot of overlap
My favourite is the images of desks with empty chairs used on news features. I can imagine some poor graphic designer cringing every time these base templates are used without adding an NPC newsreader

My "placeholder forever" was more of a tongue in cheek comment. After so many years with basic functionality for some of the main features of the game I think I have the right to be a little sceptical, that there may be some significant time before we see Rumours in the Codex.
I hope we'll get them. I would like to know when. My understanding of what FDEV were saying when discussing Codex, was that Rumours won't be released at launch of Codex, but a bit later on. A BIT.
We're on 7 months since Codex was released now and we've not heard a single word and not seen a single Rumour. I think the question "when?" is 100% fair in this case.

There's a rumour that a new Biological type can be found in the Inner Orion Spur. It's called 'Impatient Commander' and only appears on ELW in systems with G type stars. My to-do list hasn't shrunk much recently either!
I would have thought that the Rumours would be an ideal replacement/supplement to the tip-offs scenarios that used to exist (I say used to because I have not seen any in ages).
An example scenario would be as you enter a specific galactic region, you get a notification that you have entered the region (as you do already) followed by a message saying "Rumoured INRA Outpost in this region, believed to be around xxxx sector". It would give the slog back from DW2 some interest if nothing else
I personally expect this to be 'something for the future', and I doubt it'll see much until 4.0. Until then I don't see much in the way of new stuff in any shape at all, but we'll see.
Yeah. Whatever the rate at which new assets are developed the community will undoubtedly outstrip that by finding them.
However it seems like the ideal kind of scavenger hunt for otherwise bored players to do while waiting for the Next Big Thing. Ditto community goals, which again are lacking. Repairing stations works for a while though as a big challenge to get your teeth around but it takes a certain mindset (as does searching for new anomalies).

If that's the case then why did they made it sound like Rumours are just around the corner after Codex was released?
I don't mind either way really, I just want to know. If it's part of 2020 - fine! Just tell us - that's all I'm asking for. And for the future - be clear in the communication. Say "rumours are coming, but we don't know when - may be 2020" rather than vague "rumours will be added sometime after Codex".
