I'm Officially Leaving Elite: Dangerous. (Not Mad or Upset)

The long and uneventful travel mechanics have existed since day one.

I think this is one of the cases where its probably best if you were to leave it. Clearly its not the game for you and no amount of concern posts of im leaving threads will change that.
I know that my post won't change anything. That's what I said in my Original Post and am not trying to stir trouble or anything. I'm just interested if anyone would like to see optional fast travel like I would have.

Sadly enough it's the only thing holding the game back for me. And as this game was RIGHT UP MY ALLEY with almost everything, and no Fast Travel is just a game breaker after being spoiled by other games. I don't hate Elite, I just understand Forced Travel isn't going to change, and it's for the better of the fan base as people don't like change, even when it's optional.

Heck yeah, man! LOVE TES! I'm playing the Fallout games currently, which is where I figured out that Fast Travel is the best thing to happen to adventure games and why I won't be looking back to Elite.

Hope TES fills you up with as much excitement and fun as me. Freaking LOVE TES. You should give Fallout 3/New Vegas a try. or Fallout 4 if you're a little more casual. or even Fallout 76 if you don't want a story and just want an open world to build and survive in. They are all a blast! (76 is bringing a single player story near the end of the year just FYI)
I'm loving ED now, but only been playing for 7 months so plenty of time for burnout, as so many other commanders have before me....! What I am hoping is that I will burnout just before Elder Scrolls 6 comes out so I don't have too much time sitting around wondering what to do with my spare time 😃

Those other games must have rubbish communities since you feel the need to come here and talk about it.
A bit similar to inviting all your ex'es to your wedding perhaps?
Anyway: good for you.
Cheers

ED is a great game! I'm hoping the same for you as ES6 might just be the Game to end all Games! I just hope I can have daughters and an Orc wife again!

As I would love my Ex and would consider her to be my friend, I would happily invite her to my wedding. Breakups aren't always dramatic and violent. Some things just don't work out and that's okay. As you both figure out that there's something that's bringing the relationship down that won't change, it's best to move on, but that doesn't mean the friendship has to die as well. You know?

But if she's not happy for me being happily married then that's her problem, not mine. Err. metaphorically speaking.

This post is mainly for me and for the sentiment as I loved being here on the forums, arguing and nerding out with the CMDR's on here and feel this is the best way to go.

I've played this game for years and am finally done with the game. I have been in a push and pull relationship with Elite and didn't even know it. I would make up excuses saying "it will get better" "all it needs is Space Legs" "The next Update will be amazing!" and I've been disappointed with every single one. But I never understood: I love the updates when announced, but now that it's here, I'm not... What happened???

I didn't know what the issue really was... and after finally figuring it out, I realized nothing, not even Space Legs, can make this game playable for me. The issue lies in Elite's DNA and will never be changed.

It's the Forced Space Travel, but let me specify, SPACE TRAVEL ITSELF IS NOT AN ISSUE TO ANY DEGREE WHATSOEVER! :D It can be nice to travel for long periods of time, experiencing and feeling the scale of the Milky Way.

Rather I'm saying that since it's forced, it became a wall in front of my own personal entertainment. A metaphorical beast I have to slay EVERY TIME I want to do something interesting, fun or outside my comfort zone. As of late, I found myself ITCHING TO PLAY, jump in, realize how long it's going to take to do the thing that excited me, lose my excitement, then log off and play a different game that would fill my time with the active gameplay I seek. Forced Space Travel is the reason I never went to the Beautiful Guardian Sites, or the spooky Thargoid Motherbases or to see the Space Pumpkins.

I've given Sea Of Thieves a hard time (AT LAUNCH) because the game had little to no content or things to build towards and would lean on the player bringing friends to have a good time. Elite became that game but in a different way, as I would want my friends to play not because of the lack of Content, as Elite has a BUNCH of content, but because of the long wait of traveling. That's not a good sign of value gameplay for me.

But after playing Fallout 76 by myself and with a friend, I wondered how these games were able to keep me entranced in its loop (even though it's not seen as a good game in the public eye). Then it clicked after I asked myself: "Could you play this game without a fast travel system?"... And I knew that I couldn't...
I took advantage of being able to go from one side of the map to the other, to go to the mission or quest the game set for me, or I set myself. I enjoyed being able to go to players, friends or stores in a few seconds. And sometimes, oddly, I would actually stop fast traveling and just walk... walk throughout the world and truly experience the sheer size of it all. And the reason why the Travel wasn't a Metaphorical Beast to Slay was because I chose to experience the Travel, and did not have to.

What I'm saying is, the best games for me are the ones that give you a choice on how to play it, not the ones that force a playstyle on everyone. Alas, Forced Playstyles will see support because any playstyle can be liked. This Forced Playstyle will, in turn, be defended when criticized because the ones who like it will feel attacked, not knowing that others aren't like them or would even like the Forced Playstyle, if it wasn't forced.
Choice On Playstyles is what makes a game great for me and as Elite has an almost infinite amount, there is one forced playstyle that has become too much to bear.

To summarize: Elite Dangerous was great in the beginning due to its size, and cryptic nature, I would imagine all the things that would come from it, then when things started to be added, I realized how far out of reach it was then how far out of reach the rest of the game was.
Knowing that Forced Space Travel's not going to change has left me with a feeling of sadness as this game has everything I like and one HUGE thing that I don't, but I soon accepted that fact as any change will anger the fanbase, and the fanbase's happiness is what's most important to a game. And as I was a fan of the game, I realize that the direction it's going is not for me, so I can only be disappointed, but also happy as this will bring happiness to others that are playing.

Fly Safe CMDRs, Don't show your fear! :D
Also, let me know how you feel about Space Travel! would you like to see it changed or not?
im so sick of these threads filling dangerous discussion , i miss when Mods Deleted them, idc how Civil you are about quiting i dont Want to hear about it , no one dose

I'm sorry, but you are a minority here. There are players that agree with you and that would like to see some kind of fast travel ability, by teleporting over waste distances or being able to jump straight to a station or an outpost in a system. Personally I wouldn't mind having a ferry that would go from the bubble to Colonia, SagA* and back, jumping once a week.

Most of us agree that time defines the size of the universe, but the way travelling is implemented is very boring and repetitive and it should be changed to make it more interesting and challenging.

Ive never got the whole im leaving post thing, maybe as with this one it does point out the why and in a civil manner, so safe travels and all that.

Ive not played the game for well over a year now, but I know I will play it again........ dont know where dont know when, come on Vera sing it girl...

My issue isn't Travel, it's the lack of choice to skip it and get to the fun stuff. I had tons of fun traveling, but at one point, it just got in the way.

You BF example should more be in the vein of being forced to do something. EX: You HAVE to travel in a tank or chopper from Point A to Point B (the battlefield) before you can get out on your feet. But then, after you die/suicide, you have to do the full Point A to Point B Travel again, because you are a new soldier and that's more Realistic.

At one point, Forced Travel might get in the way of some people who just want to spawn in then run-and-gun. Heck, BF has a Squad Spawn Mechanic so you can spawn right on your friends because DICE knows not every player wants to spend their time traveling to their friends from home base. You know what I mean? The Flow of the game will come to a screeching halt for the run-and-gun type after every death.
No, you don't understand. The core of the BF is shooting, while the core of the Elite is space travel.
What you have issue with is what makes this game. "The fun stuff" is next layer, whether it's trading, fighting, mining or something else.
I love the fact that sometimes you're just really far from your destination and need to actually travel there (both in SC and by "hyperjumps"). Sometimes I would love to get there quicker, but I'm actually glad the game doesn't let me - it would ruin it.
What would be the point of working towards having a ship with big jump range? How would trading look like if you could just fast travel to your destination?

Fortunately Elite is not Instant Action kind of game. Actually, to some degree it allows that - people shoot eachother near Jameson's Memorial, respawn and go at it again- and that's the part I don't like.
There's also Arena mode, which is exactly that - Instant action mode.

I can't leave this game, I have too much fun, like paying 50 cr fine :D

I love speeding. I was gong 200 mph on the highway. No worries here are 50 cent officer. All done!

I am looking forward to go down on planetside and see all the rare goods for real! Lookin forward for Leetsi Evil Juice here!
