I have many good memories of my time playing Elite Dangerous. I really wish I had known about the older versions when I was younger but I'm so glad I discovered ED when it came out on Xbox.

If I had to pick a favorite, I think it would have to be finding my first Unknown Probe. I flew my DBX out there and met with some fellow Cmdrs hunting the UPs around an Ammonia world. Had a grand time chatting and hunting for the signal source.

After maybe two hours everyone else had left, I found it! I dropped out and began moving towards it to pick it up. However I misjudged my speed and promptly ran the poor thing over, lol. The sad noise it made as it died broke my heart.

So if you want to blame anyone for Thargoids attacking humanity.....it may be my fault <_<

Edit: Forgot my name too lol
Cmdr Stansellnater (Xbox Gamertag: Stansellnater) I shared the video of the above incident on my activity feed on Xbox if anyone wants to see)

My favorite ingame moment by far was when I first got into my cockpit in VR:

So 2 years ago I decided to get myself an HTC Vive for my birthday. I've already been playing Elite: Dangerous at this point for years, but this has always been something magical. Really getting the feeling of being in a spaceship, flying down on a planet or just getting inside a station. The whole world suddenly seemed so small. I enjoyed astronomy since being a kid, but this experience puts things in a totally different perspective.

Also (and this isn't exactly a moment in the game) I really love the Frontier Community Meets. I've been attending at Gamescom for the 4th time in a row this year, and it's always been a great experience to meet all these super nice people who share the same passion as myself.

Edit: forgot to include my name 🤪

My favorite moment in Elite: Dangerous was when I managed to escape a player pirate in my Type-6 Transport. I was making a delivery for a community mission when an Anaconda attacked me, demanding that I drop most of my cargo. I had never been attacked by another player before so I wasn’t sure what to do. Eventually after a minute I dropped a single ton of cargo and sped off, he seemed mad that I didn’t drop what he asked for, or that I relinquished ownership of it. But by the time I saw shots fired at me I jumped back into super cruise and was arriving safely at the station. Not the most exciting or elaborate tale, but considering I was just starting our and I had never engaged in anything with another player before, I felt proud of my self. - CMDR Cody Cobalt

Sometimes it is hard to remember everything that was good or funny (at the time) so here goes:
When pirates first attacked me while I was mining: at least two of them got to close and bounced off my ship and slammed into asteroids. giggle
2 down 1 to go.
The time I took the Aspx to a surface mat gathering. I tried to take off. Nothing. Nadah! Checked planet. 3 earth masses. haha.
The times when the police used to bounce off your ships nose while you tried to dock. Another giggle.

My favourite memory playing Elite: Dangerous?

I think it's probably my first time finding a thargoid site. I was overawed and just a teensy bit terrified. The atmosphere that's created around these places was incredible, just incredible. My first time driving around the site yielded only about 5 tons of Meta-alloys, but the feeling of achievement I got from it was incredible. I seem to remeber I was flying a newly bought Diamondback Explorer, which I kitted out especially for that trip. I may or may not have soiled myself when I approached the door and my display suddenly went offline...

Edit: my CMDR name is Trotsky2112, same as my forum name. I am on PS4.

Myself and two friends clustered around a BBC Micro, one piloting, one handling Targeting and the ECM and the third making the trading decisions. All three of us mightily impressed that an entire universe had been stuffed into a little box, an amazing feat given the meagre resources of the old 8bit machines.

Docking at a station for the first time - Trying to find my landing pad, orienting the correct way, not get shot down by the station for loitering in someone else's pad, or the mailslot, figuring out the controls, finding the landing gear wasn't down, trying not to hit the boost button that I had been warned about - all as the time ticket down before the station decided I was unwanted. Pretty sure I had less than 30sec left before I managed to set down. Intense!

My favourite memory was from the original Elite playing pirate and preying on other ships and outrunning viper police. Since then Elite simply became my favourite game and I have a copy on every platform. I also remember a time when my brothers were mucking around with the video camera filming a made up scene from the Aliens movie, I turned up the volume of the computer while a space battle in the Elite game was on and used this as the sound effects for the video. that was fun.

My favorite memory would probably be my first asteroid detonation.

I had been having some trouble reaching the detonation target, and I was running out of fissures. I placed a charge on one of the few remaining ones, and hoped that the RNG would be forgiving. After waiting 110 seconds (I didn't know about the detonate button), I held my breath, and the asteroid exploded. The message, "Detonation successful" appeared in the top right corner of my screen, and the asteroid fractured into chunks. The shockwave from the explosion disabled my shields and damaged my hull down to around 80%, which, along with the sensor malfunction, freaked me out a little. However, I was fine afterwards, and mining became what I did for a living.

Also, I can't forget the time a charge blew up instantaneously and killed me.
Or my first interdiction.
Or my first jump into a white dwarf.
Or getting the docking request first-try at Hutton Orbital.
Or pretty much anything else.

Elite is a great game that I've only just started. I can't wait to see what it has in store for me!

Cmdr Hozer1x my best memory was logging in after purchasing the lifetime subscription.. Yes Sir..

CMDR Reynolds here,

My favourite memory of the original Elite, was playing with my best friend. We'd take turns as pilot / co-pilot on the ZX Spectrum. We were about 9 years old :)

It's hard to just pick one memory, but when the game finally reached the sleepy little town of Gore, New Zealand and I finally got to see what the fuss was all about back in '85. Elite really blew my mind. I wasn't a gamer until then. Leaving Lave for the first time changed my life forever.

Congratulations on your 35 years anniversary, I started to play elite on Amstrad CPC, thank you for having accompanied me in space all these years John Koenig

So it must have been about 35 years ago that I first waited 2 or 3 minutes as the tape cassette turned to load the full 20-odd kilobytes of program into my Acorn Electron. Having gained Elite status and visited every single planet in all 8 galaxies several times I had still not found any Thargoids. My best memory must be going to my cousin's house and playing Elite on his big BBC micro - which had (I think) 4 colours, not just the black and white of my Electron - and finally running into Thargoids. I can't remember the outcome of the encounter, but it was the top moment in the game for me.
Thanks for ED, I am still flying in the black.

I still remember those endless minutes of waiting to recover my game on C64. Congratulations for those 35 years.

Buying the game from WHSmiths in 1984, on floppy for the BBC.
I didn't actually have a BBC - but I used to stay late at school and play it on the school computers. At home I would read the manual and The Dark Wheel, and plan my adventures.
I was 15 years old, and I do think that seeing the potential of computers, even the ones available then, made real in Elite, inspired me massively.

Oh myy, its hard to say what my favourite memory is. Maybe its the first time i saw an earth-like planet out of the bubble or the first time i saw a neutron star. No, it's the first time i landed on a planet, man, that was so amazing. I saw the 2 main stars on the horizon, i saw the moon of this planet. The whole thing was so beautiful. However, I remember how i couldn't go back into space, because i couldn't find a good landing point for my spaceship xd. The most thing i love about this game is exploring. But right now it has become a bit repetetive and boring, I've seen almost everything and those things which i haven't are too far away. (It would be amazing to be able to land on earth-like planets, but i know this is only a dream, because programming something like it is really hard)

I did not know Elite 84. Because I guess at the time when personal computers were not a popular mass objects, and outside the United Kingdom, Elite was for many people completely unknown.

However I discovered FE2 in the 90s when the personal computer became democratized.

I guess my amazement was as intense as that of the pioneers of 84.

Since this discovery I have always had Elite in a corner of my head, as one more milestone on the path of the life.
