i see killer limpets are back with a vengance :( dont fly over 500m/s

Killer limpets are back out in force, avoid flying over 500m/s as this seems to be happening quite alot, and this also appears to be the threshold, i thought i was just rubberbanding inside the asteroids for a while and hitting the rocks, but nope... happens outside the asteroid field as long as you have limpets out

i mean the damage isnt too bad although i expect wafer thin mining shields and a mining speced hull may be worse effected, but when it happens one after the other its quite annoying even if you have decent shields etc.

UPDATE

The bug only happens on certain ships too it would seem, my Dolphin is immune

the easy way to tell (without damaging your ship) is watch your shield rings as the limpets drop off the fragments, IF there is a little fleck of blue when the limpets dock, even if the damage is low, then YES your ship 🚀 is infected with the bug 🐛 exists for your particular ship, if there is no blue fleck then your OK!

here is the blue fleck i mean

Sometimes when circling around an exploded asteroid limpets seem to crush my shields and about 10% of my hull. That's when I am just maneuvering around and not speeding up much. With a T10...
Yeah, some limpets are bound to crash and break, but doing SO much damage?!? I wonder we don't use them as weapons since they are so super effective. :D

I noticed for some time that at certain speeds with cargo scoop deployed (around 50-70m/s) prospector limpets just break shortly after deploying them, more so when flying at max speed with cargo scoop retracted. This is flying in a straight line with no vertical maneuvers. I got used to it but it's definitely a bit of a pain if you fly in a small ship with only a few limpets at your disposal.

i did a test the other day, just not uploaded the video yet;

heres the test....

- 4 pips to SYS and using the lateral thrusters crash into a limpet at approx 100m/s no more and i lose all shields from full rings and about 10% hull

- 4 pips to SYS and face plant an asteroid at 600m/s and i bounce off with one ring of shields left..... hmmmmmmmmm :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Yet hatch breakers pass through without damage at all.

That's normal. you're crashing in to the limpets. they're very delicate. You can deploy them while flying fast, but you mustn't accelerate after deploying them. It raises the question of why you didn't suffer the same damage as OP.

That's weird. I sometimes get a prospector limpet stuck in the chute, normally when I've been synthesising them with low cargo space. Sometimes I can free it by launching a new collector limpet, but I can't do that when they're all already deployed, so last night in that situation, I needed to destroy a collect limpet. To do that, I smashed my ship's belly onto a rock to squish the limpets. I knocked out all 6, but didn't suffer any damage.

It's an issue that got introduced a while back, possibly with 3.3. Used to be fine before. Also I'm not accelerating while deploying them, it's quite random. I sometimes slow down (in order to not crash into the rock I'm firing the prospector at) but I'm extra careful not using lateral thrusters at all. It's pretty random but happens more often when in the blue thruster area, rather than outside.

Never seen the kind of damage/issue in the OP though to be fair but as I said none of my mining ships can fly that fast.

if your below 500m/s or the limpet is stationary "the bug" wont happen.

here is me flying away from a limpet yet it does damage to the ship!

ironically you can plough into prospectors as much as you like with zero damage

These are fragments that you have freed. They are indeed very dangerous.

Are we sure, the bug does not happen below 500 m/s? My Python lost all shields and 72% of its hull during mining yesterday. I was flying quite slow and it did not feel like an asteroid hit. Usually, I only lose some shields during asteroid bumps.
