Now the cat is out of the bag, how about periodic dev diary videos/livestreams?

They've leaked the future plans on purpose to build hype but without the need to commit to anything.
WILD speculation only.

Personally I can't see it - doesn't smell like something Frontier would do to me.

On the OP's main point tho' ... the cat (base building + elite feet) does rather seem to be out of the bag (here at least - see below). If Frontier's reason for not talking about it (and for not filling the time between now and the end of 2020) was because they wanted to "surprise" us then I'd say that moment has passed and that they could start to do dev' diaries. But maybe they have other reasons too (or just feel that, despite the leak and the "buildings" slipup on the store's metadata, the knowledge of what seems highly likely to be in the 2020 update is still limited to the relatively small group of commanders "in the know" here on the forums and reddit and that the wider player base of millions of game owners is still blissfully unaware of all this).

Good idea, can't wait for FD to implement it.

The community will love it, will give them time to start complaining about whatever direction FD is taking (even if it is the direction they wanted last month), will allow endless rabid, mindless speculation about areas that aren't fully discussed to the point that some will change their entire playing style to encompass the rumored changes.
Maaaate, we don't need anything more regarding FCs, they are already a self perpetuating speculation machine. I can't wait until for the day the update is released and see the following:

Complaints that the FC cost is too small as someone spent the last 6 months grinding their butt off and ended up with too much credits

Complaints that the FC cost is too large (any excuse will do)

Complaints that the FC can be owned by a single player

Complaints that the FC can only hold 16 ships

Complaints that .... well you know this community, they will complain about everything, even is it isn't a problem :D

Quick question: Why exactly are you on this forum if you absolutely despise the community talking about the game?

Or are you just here to complain about complaints?

Not everyone whinges constantly about nothing in a comedy manner.

Indeed, in fact some will even go so far as to preemptively complain about possible future complaints...madness ;)

How about starting around x-mas time if every fortnight or month there was a dev diary or livestream specifically for "the big update"? Surely help build some excitement and interest in it?
I can only imagine that to be only so technically detailed, that it is uninteresting for the majority of players, or otherwise very little content spread too much. I mean, even if they had something to announce in the past, you could skip the first 15-20 minutes of a stream without missing information on the actual topic.

I like technical details... And I don't see why it has to be predominantly technical? Surely there's a wealth of discussion points around gameplay etc though?

Elite's content in 2019 feels thin, sort of stretched. Like butter scraped over too much bread.

In general, I like them too, but the creation of ED's galaxy seems a way more interesting topic, than space legs and base building. But it might be just me, because I can't imagine both topics to be relevant or interesting to me, even when released.

Really? Why not? By the amount and detail of things that were leaked, the leaker would likely have to be someone pretty senior in the company, management at least... seems unlikely someone at that level would risk their career to create a stir for no reason.

This looks like an orchestrated thing to me, it's actually a smart move because it keeps the playerbase interested for a long-period of minor updates (the longest in the live game's history) while at the same time they can change their plans at any time as they themselves have not officially announced anything.

It's also strange that Fdev have not put out any kind of statement or clarification about the leak, which by itself implies that Fdev are happy to let it run - this does make it seem that the leak was allowed intentionally.

Some live-streams for the 2020 update would be amazing and very interesting. I’m certain it won’t will happen. But you never know.

Flimley
