[Video] Open letter from community to Elite Dangerous

What a rude thing to say. I'm quite happy to hear the opinion of members of the community. If they don't want to hear my opinion, they are free to ignore me.

Why do you assume that I assume that? Have a cup of tea and sit down and read some of the early discussions of what people wanted in the game. Those people are part of the community, and so am I.

:D S

By "community talk" I meant claiming things the community says or thinks which is in essence the crux of many arguments made against the petition and no, I didn't assume it, you stated several times that the community wanted X unless you meant someone else by "we" in which case your case is irrelevant as the demands of anybody are an open game.

and we got some nice upgrades to mining and exploration.

No, stop trolling. They ruined exploration and from what i hear mining is boring as hell. Thats ok mining is boring as hell in all games but what was done to exploration was right out of order. They could have let people have the choice aswell but no they had to force feed something terrible to everybody even going round stealing away the old modules. It ruined the game for me and im not alone in that so please dont refer to that as an upgrade.

So what, refining and calming a course if action to get more people onboard is manipulative? Is any sort of negotiation manipulative then?
That is the thing. According to the exchange there does not seem to have been much “refining or calming down” of the original plans though. And that was not explicit in the OL. If that is true this would mean deceiving and manipulating the audience. To the point of making other contributors not want a part in the next steps of those plans.

It was a complete upgrade for me. I way prefer the FSS, encouraged me to do loads more exploring.

That ONE communication may have happened sometime in the past, but there are plenty of examples where that isn't the case. And does the information from that one example even exist in a permanent, digestible form? Its not hard for a dev team to set up and maintain something like a kanban board or bug tracking system that actually communicates status to the community.. lots of companies do it.
So maybe instead of a petition we should write a list of questions for them? Because this is all very unspecific. Wait a second, I believe yamiks already did that...

Indeed. As i said they could have let players have the choice. Then we both could have been doing way more exploring and i know that you would want me to be happy too, right?

I think the letter itself was reasonably written, but they could have picked a less controversial presenter for the petition - it was like sending a Tellarite to express his displeasure at a Kelpien convention - simply not done! ;-)

How the heck did you get that conclusion? he says "We were planning to close some servers in protest, but decided to scrap that part of the plan. OA might not be aware of that old version" How is that nefarious? If they didn't change the content of the letter after OA threw his support behind it, what could you possibly construe as bad?

That's the thing, isn't it. Participants here and on other platforms for communicating within the community and with the developers, comprise the community. Voices are heard and the game developer will to varying degree listen to these voices. There are plenty of examples to be found of people wanting something or complaining about something, and then later seeing that added to or changed in the game. Not from a single member of the community, most likely when FDEV has heard it enough to think it is serious and needs addressing (similar to the setup of the bug tracker, by the way). So in some way we are a single voice.

None of us should assume to represent everybody or speak for everybody, though. That's when these rambling threads happen. Because even when loud and somewhat obnoxious, and even when they make petitions about it, they don't speak for everybody.

Once more, you make an unsubstanciated assumption, also, now that you've admitted that you didn't talk about all of the community, your complain becomes an erroneous generalization.

I like the new exploration mechanics. They even got me visiting Nav Beacons now, because I simply can't be arsed to run the FSS when entering a populated system. Mining is a little bit more interesting now, if still not quite as involved, expensive and prone to be fruitless as in real life. More could be done to both, but maybe powerplay could be given a bit of love before adding more to these again.

I don't believe it was ever stated that they had unanimous support. They do still appear to be in the majority though.

secund one said that, what you meen by for free? There isn´t even a Registration, nor something like a pay or donate think.

You got a browser highjacker or stuff like that?

My computers are all perfect mate, I'm a developer in RL and am really fussy with my machines. The site wouldn't let me sign without making a donation, so I didn't sign. There was no obvious option to sign without paying.

Well, you like asking people to find quotes. Why don't you this time go dig out some of the posts from the developers saying they are aware of an issue and will be addressing it, for example? Or maybe some of Sandro's old posts or videos about Powerplay?

Wow... we arnt all that far from agreement. I cba to run it, like ever. Thats all. Why did they do this? The FSS would have been fine as mission runners tool and the surface stuff could just reveal itself when you got close enough. No complaints at all.
