[Video] Open letter from community to Elite Dangerous

I don't have an issue with your approach to the game Jason, I'm just aware you burnt out possibly as a result of thinking you had to grind to do it.

If you ever come back let me know and you can show me how it's done. I don't clog or menu-log and there'll be no salt at all.

Although last time we both got blasted without even managing to meet up.
That was pretty funny, where we both went to San Tsu to have our duel and ended up both getting blown up by the local gang because it was "anarchy night" lolol.

No, I'm pointing out selective criticisms... both Fdev and CIG have OFFERED players to purchase extremely expensive items to help fund their games in their early stages. The only difference is that CIG have used it as an ongoing funding model (in Alpha phase) where as Frontier stopped with kickstarter (unless you count lifetime passes of course).

FDEV actually made a game though.

Combat? Sure. I've always considered combat front&center to the entire Elite franchise since the very beginning. But pvp was always something you 'can do' although it would be 'rare'. As far as I know every trailer the last five years heavily focused combat, but pvp? If they even acknowledge MP, it is about coop combat vs NPCs...

Let's not forget it's also marketed as a multiplayer game and as a massive multiplayer game, that's more or less the sort of tags PvP games have, at least on Steam.

I can think of other differences. Anyway, there is a SC topic if you want to discuss that further. I am sure people will be excited to hear about the skill-based, balanced and simply fun PvP experiences you might be able to share there.

I don't really care much for talking about SC here.. I merely mentioned it to reinforce a point I was making about Elite and everyone got predictably triggered.

He countered the criticism of monetization by pointing at a single item, sold only once, to one person, over half a decade ago. That is a desperate attempt to seek false equivalence and mitigating criticism that way.

Never said I agreed with SC's monetization campains, nontheless, you are shifting goalposts now.

No, the answer is to add a main ship dueling mode to CQC that players don't have to grind engineers, mats and credits to take part in. Simples.
But unless all mods are unlocked in CQC, then that would mean the "grind" is still required, if you mean bringing over your ship from the main game. Better to have mods unlockable via Arx. It'll work trust me...

Sorry but only a few low price tiers offered ships as part of the Kickstarter rewards. That other game is selling P2W ships for significant amounts of money under the guise of "supporting development".

Start a discord for a PG and recruit players to have PVP matches. No need for rebuy if you agree its shields only and you can even bring your main ship.

Do it in an anarchy so there's no fines in case people have report crimes on.

You'll need to do it in a PG or the griefers will turn up just to spoil everyones fun.

That's not quite the same as an option on the menu that is open to all players to encourage participation. Enough people have attempted to start PvP hubs, they don't do anything other than provide hang-outs for the same old faces.

Plus you've got all the same issues that grind-wall PvP in the first place.

Not really triggered, just laughing a bit at you starting with 'these are the problems with PvP in ED' and ending with 'so many of us are going to SC'. Its like saying 'gun violence is really becoming problematic in Detroit' and ending with 'so I am moving to Syria!'. ;)

If you have a no PVP meta builds rule there's no need for grinding.

I'd agree if and only if a big portion of their marketing wasn't about combat and pew pew.
There is a lot of combat in the game, the squadron I'm in have been in several wars for BGS reasons in the recent past (which was great fun!) there is plenty of Bounty Hunting to be grabbed... The marketing isn't incorrect!

Of course, if one only interprets the marketing as PvP combat then disappointment is sure to follow as the requirements to be 'in the crowd' are going to take a lot of one's time before joining in :)
