World Animal Day Disappointment

It would appear the whole "Every 200 retweets we receive we will do a big reveal" wasn't true after all. With over 1.2k retweets we only received the riverboat and Okapi annoucements. Meaning we should have also been given an additional 4 reveals. Very disappointing indeed.

I agree, it was also very unclear which posts the community should have retweeted. If they would count the RTs on everything that was posted today, that would give us a number of almost 4.000! I'm disappointed too and hope they won't tease us anymore like that.

I'm glad I didn't wake up at 5am for the Facebook livestream.. would have just been disappointed. They hyped everyone up, hinting that there would be some big reveals and I mean... It's world animal day, of course people were expecting quite a few reveals. Instead we got the okapi in a pretty undynamic pose... Very disappointed.

🤦‍♀️ wow. looks like PZ is playing to a tough crowd
On its own it wouldn't have been a big deal. Two announcements in one day is pretty cool. Just don't promise one thing and then say "We'll post something every 200 retweets". I should mention it wasn't necessarily going to be "big announcements", I was being hyperbolic, but they did say and I quote "For every 200 RTs we'll post something exciting". Which we only got 2 posts for over 1.2k retweets. I think most would have been fine even if most of the posts were like concept art or new theme items, but they didn't even acknowledge what they said.

I wouldn't descibed it as though crowd...but they overhyped it that has to be said.

As mentioned earlier, official communication about this day was, that they will do "a bunch of fabulous reveals and celebrations" and what we got today was:

1 animal reveal
1 ride reveal
3 giveawys

I'm not neccessiraly dissapointed but I do feel that on World Animals/Zookeepers Day is this score sort of weak (especially in the animals section)

"Every 200 RTs well post something exciting"

something exciting =/= new reveal though and that is only your fault that you interpreted it that way...

This. And with some people already disgruntled on the forums about some of the promises for the game not being in the game as of yet, not a good idea to once again "break a promise", so to speak.

I can't say I am dissapointed, cause I am aware we're gonna have a lot of updates in the coming weeks after beta, but I did expected 3 animal reveals. Okapi is great but that it's just one for World Animal Day. Pretty slim. Boat ride is nice addition though.

  • World Animal Day // 4 October is World Animal Day, and we've got some exciting things planned for you! Be sure to check in on our social channels for a bunch of fabulous reveals and celebrations!
Yea,was quite disappointed,too.
Oh well..

Let me first say: everybody is completely free to voice their opinion and discontent on whatever issue. But I'll also say: out of all the issues, this kind of stuff is NOT what the community should be focusing its attention and energy on. Negativety about some past actions that Frontier cannot fix retroactively is, if not pointless, counterproductive. At this point, we should be generating hype and providing constructive and actionable feedback on the game.

Edit: I'll elaborate slightly. This is the last month before the intended release. Everybody is scrambling for the last big development crunch. The Beta version is still riddled with bugs and other problems, so this is a stressful time for Frontier. These few weeks are also our last chance to get at least a few tidbits of important feedback in before release (and there are some important topics there, such as the timescale, the market, and breeding). With this in mind, do we really want them to spend energy and time dealing with this sort of stuff?

So feedback about "community events" for their marketing and pr department doesn't count? Also, looking at the forum, there is more than enough feedback about the bugs and other gameplay stuff.

As a game developer myself I understand the stress of crunch time...for the developers. With only a month left and a ton of bugs, I do have empathy for the artists, qa testers, and software engineers. This is their toughest time. However, what we are talking about is a marketing/community management situation. The state of the game doesn’t necessarily rest on their shoulders. The game has a huge infertility bug right now, but the person manning the Twitter isn’t the person who will fix it. The community just feels lied to is all. In the grand scheme of things I don’t really care that we didn’t get 3 more animal announcements. It was just the fact we were promised if we do a thing, we’d get a surprise. Instead we got two surprises out of 6 the community “earned” by Frontiers own metric. Again, you are right, in the grand scheme of things it’s the least concerning thing the “team” should worry about. But for the community management and pr it isn’t great. Let’s say they try this again before launch. “We’ll reveal something new every 500 replies” people aren’t gonna trust it. The whole situation just kinda left a sour taste in the mouth of the community. Just don’t make promises you can’t keep.

They held their side of the bargain whether you'd like to admit it or not, giveaways/reveals etc. all counted towards the 200 RTs. You've misinterpreted what they said (not quoting them exactly finds it harder to take what you said in the original OP seriously) and are trying to defend yourself when your unrealistic expectations haven't been what you'd hoped. Accusing them of effectively lying is ridiculous. 'The community' certainly doesn't reflect the majority - I would say most would accept Frontier delivered exactly what they said they would with that one tweet.
