Patch Notes September Update - Patch 2

I am secretly hoping the 2020 update will be a brand new game with a brand new code.
Otherwise I can’t imagine how would FD deliver such a massive update without killing the game altogether.
I hoping very similar, just not secretly.

(rant) How much more of this type of -poor-programing are we going to see until. then? (/rant)

39 pages (and growing) of nothing that a kid - who wants to be a game developer when he grows up - would ever want to read in their life, once grown up.

I've always suspected it will be. I think the community is right when they say that our current version of ED is in maintenance mode. All the effort of the ED team, but for about five people apparently, is directed at getting the "new" game ready for 2020. Meanwhile, those poor five developers left to work on the current version have one mission: dribble in a little new content to maintain the illusion that the game is still being actively developed while keeping the game functional by patching critical bugs/exploits/etc. until it can be ushered off to the retirement home in 2020. From a development perspective, it makes sense, but it won't be pleasant for we hardcore fans who expect something more for our favorite game.

So far as I have seen everything works well enough for your average casual game session. It might be worthwhile avoiding missions, but even then you might not see any issues; I haven't. I've done mining and exploration since Update 2, I've done cargo missions since patch 2, I'm currently out in the black and everything (apart from the codex) seems to be working perfectly. There's been some question about whether the new discoveries are being tagged correctly, but I'm certainly seeing tags on at least some of my old discoveries. (I can't possibly remember them all.)
I made a backup text file for all of mine, will check next time I log in...

Which might take a while cos, I found something else to do instead...

Going to go play Fallout 4 and hunt Raiders and Mercs. Then come back in 4 weeks to see if FD finally got this update squared away. As for me, the game is broken as the game cannot access the internet. A simple DSL with a modem/firewall that ED for 4 years worked fine. The April 2019 update worked just find until this one came around. I might try installing this game after I replaced my Windows 7 with Windows 10 and see if this fixes the connectivity problem

This is weird but, the mission n board issues never happened while I played. I loaded a full mission board an hour ago. Perhaps it’s because I live in a different region. Australia.

Ps. Yes I’m on PS4
I have had the exact same experience - never seen the mission board soft lock (also on PS4 in Aus). I've assumed that the servers are less busy when Aus Cmdrs are entering the black, and that the 'glitches' are the result of server-side or comms bottlenecks.

I wonder whether the Arx are hosted on a separate server (for financial compliance/security reasons) and that the sync between the gameplay servers and the Arx server is 'less than optimal' which results in the issues being experienced. As others have speculated, Arx are earned by actions in game, and that coding hooks/flags/interrupts were probably added throughout the game to facilitate the earning of Arx, it seems plausible that a poorly synced network is going to mess with the smooth running of the universe.

Fly safe Cmdrs, and remember "what does not kill us makes us stronger"

Above all, safe in banking transactions.

just wanted to point out there are still errors happening with the first discovery and mapped by xx tags
I've been mapping again and just came into a system where some bodies have been mapped by me it says, but no-one else has mapped them and its not showing my name or anyones name having mapped them. And, no, I did not just map them but have yet to hand in, this is a system I have been in dozens of times and know it well.

and now that I have mapped all day and am at a station, I have to add that the bug is obviously still there to a degree as I accumulated 1/3 less credits for what I mapped than I should have, so I have obviously mapped many already mapped planets that had no mapped by tags and should have
Fdev, this is seriously affecting my BGS play, I don't need or care about the credits, but the value of these scans are important for BGS and so far this is 2 days of mapping wasted.

But with real problems that make the game broke - the need to verify for days? Says something bout their priorities - Don't you think?
That example is bad for a discovered / mapped bug (if one exists). How do you expect "LHS 317" not to be discovered when it is a high security core system with 7+ million inhabitants?

If a system is well established, obviously all the planets, moons etc. are discovered already. I suppose as a rule of thumb, if a system has a Nav Beacon, then it is all discovered already. (I don't know specifics what would trigger the behavior of showing [or storing the information in the first place], is it existence of nav beacon, system security, inhabitants, controlling faction and/or allegiance etc..)

(Use EDSM etc. website if you really really want to be recognized as having first discovered as something.)

Edit: ...And this has nothing to do with you scanning the system and/or surface mapping the stellar body. You can do those things and sell the cartographic data for established star systems. And the information in galaxy map regarding of if you have mapped (or not) a body, is also separate game data than the above mentioned "first discovered / mapped" information.

I don't think that is directed at me, but just in case
for one I have a record in my logs
second I use a program that I wrote that calculates values for every body I scan, map or discover, these values are then easily verified by selling the data
you can then re-check all those bodies from the station to see if your name or someone elses name appears on them or any name at all, for discovered by and mapped by. This is something I do before I write anything in the forums saying that its still broken. Also checking random ones that I discovered and mapped ages ago to see what tags are there if any.
the ones in the bubble don't count, if you test them you will see that any body you scan then map in the bubble, cartographics will tell you, you are the first to discover it, but you do NOT get the value paid for new discovery, I can only assume that this particular bug is known and maybe intentional, as it is well over a year old.

Except not, tbf. Because EDSM isn't sync'd with in game discoveries. You can get tags on something on EDSM that hasn't been discovered in game if the data hasn't been cashed and you die first or you can get tags in game by simply not sync'ing to EDSM/EDDN. EDSM tags are nice but they're purely indicative.

The connectivity problems are yours or your internet server ??.., you may have inappropriate ping and latencies for Elite. Remember that w7 no longer supports and w10 supports even when not registered (watermark). Connection management is not only Frontier also your operating system (windows, linux, virtualizations, others). Although to see a web page it may be correct for other things you need something and therefore does not let you access.
In addition, those who play with VPN, that there is, if it enters, the configuration of Frontier server also, for security issues that do not correspond to explain here.

So they can address and fix this within hours:

It was the same when the September update dropped, the store was messed up and fixed in next to no time. You gotta fix the money maker. They obviously care more about taking our money than giving us a workable almost bug free game

I've been saying for a while that I feel like they're slowly killing off the game and the 2020 update will just become ED2 and I'm ok with that as long as it is mostly or entirely bug free.

I think they do not need to kill the current game to propose an ED2 in 2020.

As others say, the current game may be just in maintenance mode while waiting for the "New Era" ?
