The ADS

All the argements against bringing the ADS back seem to revolve around saying that nobody really wants it back. That just isnt honest.
Neither is your strawman argument, as that's not the arguments being presented against the ADS.

Conversely, your comments have repeatedly implied that all explorers share your opinion, which is clearly not true.

Are you sure you're worried about honesty?

I always get a huge laugh when people moan about the FSS and wanting the ADS back. FDev have already spoken on the matter and it’s closed, they’re not changing it back.

Then again, some people really need a place to moan uselessly, so carry on I guess. For once I actually do have popcorn handy!

Well what was it you said? Only one button? Hell if you only honk and jump its two. But you were implying that nobody could have ever got any enjoyment from it and that just isnt true. Also the way people used to use the ADS is constantly slightly misrepresented. Ok in a vaguely comedy way but even so.

Edit: actually my comments dont imply that all explorers to a value of 100% agree with me. I have never said anything close to that. I say that lots of people are unhappy with the loss of the ADS or using the FSS.

We’re not asking FD to remove the FSS. Improve it, sure.
The main point is that the FSS doesn’t support our exploration preferences, so just put the ADS back in.

Then everyone has options, just like every other profession in the game.

I would love to know where you're getting these exploration numbers, since there's nothing cited there.
The data sources are the EDSM data dumps, a bit of EDAstro's and my work on them, and also the DW2 statistics, plus FD's official tweets before. I did publish them, and it's all easy to find, but I'd rather not link it in this thread.

As for your example, I am pretty sure that there's a place on the spectrum for those Gas Giants, so you can still potentially identify them with the FSS as well, as the range for Gas Giants is rather wide.
Unfortunately, you're wrong. It would be great if there were a way, but all the examples so far have turned up that GGGs are in the same place on the barcode as their "parent" gas giant class is. If you have some method of reliably finding them that you have proof that works, please do post it: quite a lot of people would love that.

But totally ignoring that mainstream will be the certain death of this game.

Narrowing your appeal isnt going to help. This is the point behind let everybody have their way. Really those arguing against that are in their own little way damaging the game, but i dont expect anybody wanted to hear that :)

My point is they already basically told us that they’re not even considering bringing the ADS back. That’s not a direction they wanted to go anymore. They said this after a massive thread after 3.3 dropped that has hit upon everything this thread has and then some. Feel free to hunt down the quote in the last threadnaught on the subject, if someone hasn’t quoted it here already.

Sometimes games change direction. That’s life. I didn’t like it when Borderlands 2 dropped with a slightly different loot drop mechanic than BL1, but I got over it. Why can’t people here do the same?

Are you really going to try to the FSD jump to another system as an argument for how the ADS wasn't "one button"?

I guess your desire for an honest argument went out the window pretty quickly.

I suspect at least a few of us would not have bought the game if the FSS had been in at launch - it is a terrible mechanic and badly implemented.

I would suggest that at the very worst, a tiny few might not have bought it because of it, while perhaps one or two more might have because of it.

One man's poison is another man's meat.

Never did understand the FD logic of it having to have been one or the other, but not both. It would have been just as easy to have merged ADS and FSS so anyone could do either. Squiggles Labled ELW etc or pictures? Why not? Honk - look at sys map pics. See something you might want to scan? - open the FSS to see if it's an ELW/WW etc. to decide if it's worth the trip to do a DSS scan. There never was any rational logic to dumping the ADS, other than the FSS whinners that insisted everyone play it their way.

I've been to BP and back a couple times already

I just don't care...

The FSS mini-game aspects seem strange to me for a spaceship piloting game. I doubt Frontier would have wanted to implement it earlier on. That's just of course speculation either way though.
