So tomorrow I grind...maybe

I was in a HazRes this morning before work and had to syth some more ammo, something I'd never actually done before as I'm that tight with my mats, and noticed I'd hit 91% Deadly. I've got an entire day off tomorrow and think I might go back down to Celaeno to pick a fight with some Thargoid scouts. I tried a fair few back when I was ranked Dangerous and still have a Chieftain parked down there, as I remember you can go through them fairly quickly.

Is this remotely doable or am I letting myself in for a daft grind without a real chance of hitting triple elite. I'm happy plodding along but quite fancy banging out those last 9% if its not crazy.

Build a solid scout hunting ship (Kraits are good), with 4 AX MC turrets, not even necessary to engineer anything else (apart from shields but you would do that regardless hopefully). Go to Asterope and search for NHSS threat 4/5.

1% progress in Deadly rank represents about 15 scout kills.

Source: done it a few weeks ago that way (for maybe 20-25% of the final Deadly, so 9% isn't bad at all... the 30-40% I actively grinded towards the end was pretty soul destroying though despite mixing things up with CNBs, CZs, missions etc.).

CZs are the worst because the ships are all beefed up and take forever to melt, hence scouts are the best in terms of progress.

Triple Elite and particularly the crest it unlocks are worth it (it has a nice silver/gold shine to it, especially on dark backgrounds it really pops). Good luck CMDR

I started to kill scouts at 50% dangerous and found myself enjoying the challenge so much (with plasma weapons assisted by turreted ax cannons) that I just kept going all the way to the Triple.

I also learned how good the Phantom is for combat, when engineered with all the bells and whistles. So it was a bonus for me.

15x9? Maybe I'll go down for a bit and see how we go 135 scouts in a row may be a little too much.

Having said many times that I couldn't care less, it will come when it comes I'm surprised how much I want to hit triple elite now its so close🥳

Blimey. That's some serious Scout slaughter. It seems an age since I was 50% Dangerous.

135 sounds worse than it is. There's between 4 and 8 (iirc) in one NHSS instance, the latter is the outlier (and quite tough if your build isn't engineered I'd get out immediately). What can take time is hunt for suitable sources but in Asterope there's loads of them and close to the station and nav beacon. So nav beacon first, then do as many as you can, back to station for repairs and restock, rinse repeat.

Shouldn't take too long at all, maybe a couple of hours or so.

Admittedly, it takes a little longer if there's no non-human combat zones about, but it is still doable.

Yeah, it's a shame those are gone but seriously OP check out Asterope. Close to 100 signal sources at any time and station within spitting distance.

Thanks everyone.

My Chieftain is fully engineered and loaded full of HRPs/MRPs with a mix of AX multi cannons and human multi cannons so I should be good to go with that. I’ll have a look at Asterope Obi, it’s been a while since I was there. I traded a lot around that area pre mining boom but just based myself out of Celaeno for the scouts.

Unfortunately I missed the Thargoid CZs completely which is a shame as they sound like a lot of fun. When I did do some scout hunting it was a good laugh with the manoeuvrable scouts making for some great dog fighting. Infact the more I type the more I wonder why I’ve left it so long.

Enjoying misery is still finding enjoyment.

Urghh...it was just a facetious joke! But since you've upped the ante, let's see now....

Firstly, I'll overlook the fact that you may not have considered the duration/timeline of any activity in your original post & subsequently, the onset of diminishing marginal utility from that activity - ie. it was fun at the beginning then became a grind!

I shall instead focus on discourse concerning general English comprehension following your fallacious attempted rebuttal:

If one "enjoys the misery" of hard &/or dull repetitive activities, this does not mean that the literal definition of "grind" necessarily alters due to the inherent subjectivity. The key to the complex logical & lexical semantics of "grinding" in an objective framework is the concept of the "reasonable person" in said definition...just like 'masochistic' activities objectively remain either painful or tedious despite the derivation of pleasure. (Hmm - apposite example too for Elite, methinks!)

I'd back out at this juncture if I were you! 😁

The duration/timeline was not specified, and growing to loathe a once loved activity is a different matter entirely.

I, too, was being facetious, yet also offering veiled encouragement. But since you insist on dabbling in pendantics, I refer you to Cicero’s 45 BC work “De finibus bonorum et malorum”, wherein it is writ: “Neque porro quisquam est qui dolorem ipsum quia dolor sit amet, consectetur, adipisci velit[…]”

And offer that Sado-Masochist relationships are doomed to fail in their purest form:

"Beat me!", pleads the Masochist.
"No.", retorts the Sadist.

Why? Because the Masochist would derive pleasure from pain, while the Sadist would derive pleasure from inflicting pain, however the best pain the Sadist could inflict would be to deny the Masochist the pleasure of pain felt.

Over to you.

Rick, did you 'like' Indigo's post because you appreciate the way he confuses "common" nouns with the "proper" variety? Or a more passive-aggressive reason?

Over to me, then?

You mean to try my hand at deflection?! Or at the very least a furtive, diversionary tactic & I must contend the accusation of pedantry on the back of your reply to my playful first post - this is patently ironic.

Firstly, I only addressed your point that "if one enjoys an activity, one has failed to grind" - evidently, I have comprehensively rebutted your assertion that this is irrefutable using the salient qualifying adverb. Read my post more slowly so that your brain can catch up...then you might not make similarly irrelevant replies that are liked by retards.

Secondly, thanks for demonstrating your browser proficiency & ability to regurgitate platitudinous ironic arguments btw; I actually studied PPE at uni hence I'm fully aware of Cicero's body of work although I would not claim to have it committed to memory in Latin & as such, like you (hehe), I had to Google the cited examples of said dead language.

Funnily enough I have studied sadomasochism in the past - strictly for edification purposes, you understand - specifically research in relation to debates on consent/violence & more recently, the religious aspects: the relationship in theism of being forced to love a being one also fears. But I digress...again!

I think it is time to end this trivial contretemps for I fear one of us probably has a pathological need to have the final word...as we veer evermore into the choppy & murky waters of semantics taking the thread wildly off course once more.

Either that or we'll end up like these guys....

& Rick6549? An addendum - You habitually rep Stigbob & Factabulous, ergo I have news for you..."real-world credibility blown!" I do enjoy your petty dogmatic & clique-y allegiances though...they are most amusing. :ROFLMAO:

Just so you understand, one more time, affirmation from this dork-infested gathering means zero-zilch-nada-zip to me, geddit now?!
