I've tried it a few times, doesn't seem to have helped. In one of the dozen or so attempts, the main menu showed me the server IP with (unconnected), but it didn't seem to move from that state. I then relaunched, and back to the "client too old" message.

Negative. Trying total reinstall atm.
For me it does not work....no noticable changes/improvements
Also the clear save game option is red now. Is that supposed to be the case?
Nope.
Now I'm getting "client too old"...never had that one before...had "too new"...like someone above said, schrodinger's client
Does not help.
I get the message 'Can't connect to edServer: Your Client is too old. Please upgrade to the latest Version of Elite Dangerous' and the 'Start' button is red.

PC prompts me to send a Crash Report from Launcher
Hey ya'll, I still cannot start game in Beta 2.01 my PC swears at me loudly and a pop up box from Frontier arrives asking for me to send a crash report and hardware report. I have done as commanded and await your fix cheers. Off to work for me

Never got the too old/too new messages.
Now synced files and got the "Your client is too old" message.
Guess there is stuff happening server side and we soon have a fix out?
Not me. Even tried completely toasting ED from my PC and starting from scratch....and the validation of files as explained above.
Exactly the same Black Screen Of Death issue...with the same network logs as other ppl are getting.
Also there is a minor problem, during exiting game hangs (black screen).
No, not for me, still same set of changing issues.
Didn't helped me, still geting "Your client is too old".
