Game unplayable both OPEN and SOLO, Frontier please fix your game!

I tell you what, when you fix Sensei's computer for him and rid the game of rubber-banding and stuttering and the other bugs he's complaining about, then I'll post a gif of somebody eating their hat. But I won't be holding my breath in the meantime. Hopefully Frontier will DO THEIR JOB and fix this bug (yes it is a bug), but I'm not holding my breath for that, either.

Don't worry Sensei, we're in this together! :D
I can see that critical thinking is something you've opted out of, then.

Let me put it in a simpler way. If my group of friends all drank a glass of milk, a few would have a bad time because of lactose intolerance. Some would be just fine, no problems whatsoever, but a couple would feel terrible all night.

You, however, would declare the milk is bad. Wag your finger at the grocery store who needs to DO THEIR JOB and provide fresh milk!

I see that civil discourse is something you've opted out of, then (not just with me, but everyone you disagree with on this forum). Some people do that well and witty, and they actually contribute something worthwhile to the conversation in doing so. You, on the other hand, I find tedious, so I think I'll opt out of seeing your future "contributions" to this discussion.

But like I said before, if you solve this problem that we the players are to be blamed for, I'm sure someone will give you credit, and at that point I'll concede your superior intellect and restore your write access to my screen :p

I don't really care, but clearly you need to declare as such to give yourself a proper patting on the back. I don't care about your approval.

You literally said no to critical thinking, and decided you know the problem, despite all the people who do not share the problem. So, enjoy your issue, keep pointing your finger. Don't do any problem solving. Don't eliminate any variables. Don't try to figure it out.

Pat yourself on the back, you did all can: blame somebody else.

@ all people not having this issue: if you don't want to bring a useful contribution to this thread could you please go somewhere else? This issue is quite serious so please I would like to avoid useless discussions and remain on topic.

I'm not having this issue, but I have a very useful contribution nonetheless :

Cheer up, its just a video game and not a serious thing in the slightest.

Smothered with "kindness" and "helpful advice" we are...

Speaking of helpful advice, have you tried things like unlocking framerate & vsync to see what happens? I'm not recommending this as a permanent fix, but I do agree with some of the "helpful" people that if we can narrow down why certain people have issues that others don't, it might provide Frontier with information to expedite the next patch. Seeing that Vsync on vs. off is a setting with potentially huge ramifications, and a setting that different people in the forum feel differently about (I'm sure plenty of people run vysnc off), it's worth trying just to see.

I'm also going to try my PS4 in Solo mode, just to see if that solves the terrible performance I was seeing in Open. Since the code is shared, anything on PC that can be replicated on PS4 automatically eliminates possibilities like bad drivers, overheating CPUs, etc.

Oh, and while I hate being "one of those guys", have you updated your video driver? I may have to do this with mine (the fear is real). This is one of those rare things that can actually be explained as a "fault" on our computers and perfectly timed with a game update, as Frontier may have coded to a newer driver in a way an older driver doesn't like.

I personally hate updating drivers unless I have to. Updates have broken more things for me than fixed, back when I was originally a PC gamer, so you first!

People not having the issue pretty crucial to compare and contrast so you can identify potential areas that could be causing the issue in the first place.

As I mentioned before, this could be outside of hardware on your end and software on FD's end and be an issue with your ISP connecting with certain regions/ports. It's affected some other games in the past intermittently.

Have you considered fixing your obviously broken computer?

While the issue could be his hardware, it could also be something in between. He needs to find somebody with similar specs to compare and eliminate possibilities.
Even that is invalid as drivers and other software installations could have borked everything.

Since most people aren't experiencing this chances are its a configuration that haven't tested or some failure between the server and keyboard.

This thread is the perfect honey pot for refining my ignore list :p

Don't worry Stig, you're safe as long as you keep wearing that hat.
Oh boy I am truly upset at this news. You sure told me off.

Assuming normal behaviors he shouldn't be too far off of the drivers of others with similar hardware. Also, because it's rubberbanding, that suggests connection issues, which are less affected by a majority of the hardware.

Likely culprits are several points - Computer-Router connection, Router/Modem-ISP connection, or ISP-Game Server connection. These are the best bet for creating a rubberbanding/connection issue. The troubleshooting you can do with an ISP is pretty in-depth and they can possibly pinpoint issues like that - it's how I solved an issue I once had.

I hope I did not hurt your feelings too much.

I then went to the Graphics options and changed my resolution from 3840x2160 at 60hz with VSync Off, to 2560x1440 at 30hz with Vsync On, and this eliminated the rest of the problem for me. I was driving my video card at the top of it's performance, coupled with a slower connection, i.e.VPN and all of this combined seem to cause my video problems.
I've got lots of headroom (Max Headroom, haha) with my video. I normally play 60 fps locked because I prefer that, but unlocked I rarely drop below 100 fps. Before the update I could even do 72 fps locked EVERYWHERE (including smokey rings with lots of NPCs). Post update I'm getting stutters and FOV-POP even when fps meter is high. Granted, this stuttering is occasional (except on PS4 where it's eternal hell), but they happen.

As for network, I tried two entirely different networks with the exact same effect - rubber banding, players performing the "Picard Maneuver", excess stuttering, etc.

All that said, I am open to the idea that a video card driver might actually interfere with network code in Elite Dangerous. We saw evidence on PS4 that ED's netcode is not well optimized and may be tied to the main thread in places it ought not be. Who knows? I'm going to try updating my Nvidia driver later today and see what happens, though this doesn't explain why my AMD-based PS4 suffers the same problems.

Lol nobody hurt my feelings at all.

If you hassle an ISP enough they will get it fixed: assuming its truly on their end.

Ok. I've checked everything twice and for me it's connection/instancing related.
Switched to private group. Two commanders near the station. Rubber-banding and zig-zagging was present.
Switched to solo mode. No issues.
Phew! Fortunately it looks like unrelated with GPU, RAM etc.

And this is a videogame forum so serious has still a context so let's keep real life outside
