Jameson Memorial - what is the attraction?

Without the mindless logging in and out for the same 4 materi.. err.. ships and modules.
Don't give them ideas.

I only go there if I CBA chasing down a module 300Ly away to kit out a new ship.
Besides, Li Yong gives you 15% discount, SD only 10%.
I know, go mining for 2 minutes and you got the money for it - That's not the point. I hate spending my money, I like it piled up in one spot, not in the pocket of NPCs. You don't make money by spending it - at least not in this case. I like hunting for discounts, and if I can get a ship or a module 15% cheaper, I will take it any day. Unless it involves jumping for the next 15 minutes, then I'll just fork out the money.

My home base in Sol is relatively close to JM and I do go there when outfitting a new ship, they have everything so it's just a matter of convenience.

If I ever plan to move my fleet to another home then it'll be in some backwater system on the edge of the bubble.

Greeting fellow Commanders, I have a question that I hope doesn't offend!

I read quite often about Commanders setting up their home station at Jameson Memorial (yep the one in that permit locked system that is hard to pronounce or type in a hurry). I will be honest, when I made my first Elite rank and got the permit, I naturally dropped everything and headed straight over there - and was seriously disappointed. It would have to one of the most mundane, boring stations going around - and ugly as hell! Now I am trying to work out what the attraction is, why do so many set up home there.

Is it because it sells everything? For me that isn't a factor, I am not continuously buying ships and modules, and when I do I take my taxi there or the ship that needs the modules.

Is it because of the discount? Lets be honest here, if you have reached Elite rank, credits shouldn't really be worry. No matter how much extra you pay somewhere else, that cost can be offset by one mining trip can't it. If I need something I weigh up the cost saving against the time it takes me to get there, most of the time it is just easier to buy whatever I am after locally.

Is it because it is the traditional home of the Pilot's Federation? Yes it is but lets face it, the good old Pilot's Federation has let the place deteriorate badly. The station itself looks like it has been used as a biowaste container, and it isn't the most law abiding and safe area is it. You would think that being the home of the PD, it wouldn't tolerate anything untoward or illegal!

Is it because 'it's a cool place to be'? If yes, then your definition of cool is different to mine. Having to run the gauntlet of gankers and griefs every time you leave the station would get tired very fast to me. And going solo or PG, well why bother being there then.

Is it because it is a 'target rich environment'? This I could understand if you are into that sort of thing, but because I don't PvP, it is actually a damn good reason to avoid the system entirely lol

Just to smooth any ruffled feathers or knickers that suddenly developed a twist, I have nothing against anyone who wants to hang their shingle at Jameson. I just feel that there are far superior stations out there, it is a big galaxy but so many stick to one minor little system.
Im pretty sure you answered your own question multiple times bud lol

No I don't like Shinrarta Dezhra, there's nothing special so far. I also hate the name becasue I have to google it everytime to write it correctly. Maybe I will change my opinion when we are able to land on Founders World.
Jameson's Memorial station is... meh... we've a lot of nice stations with trees and greens, Jameson's is really minimal and standard. It's not a good memorial place for such character.
I do have my fleet parked there just for the convenience of having all ships and modules available when I need to change my game style or reconfigure my ships... I hate running up and down for the bubble looking for a heat sink launcher...
I mostly play on SOLO so I don't even bother looking other players ships.

How is it you people who have played since Kickstarter don't already own every module and every ship in the game that you might possibly be interested in?

When I was on PS4, I rarely visited ShinDez at the end, as I already have everything I ever wanted, and then some!
I've played since pre-release in from the Open Beta days. Back after initial release credits were much harder to earn, it was a trading grind. Admittedly I stopped playing for a few years but I've played a lot of hours and all I have to my name is a mix of A & B modules Vulture, similar Asp now kitted for surface Painite mining and about 75m in cash. I started playing again a bit a couple of weeks ago and bought Horizons and I've made more credits in about 8 hours of playing now than I did in well over a few hundred before.

I named a station through the Kickstarter, so for a long time that was my "home" base. Trouble is, it's rubbish and hardly sells anything.

So, Jamesons it is... for convenience really. When I log in to do something, I usually just buy & equip a ship to do it... I don't maintain a "fleet". Jameson is the best place to do that, because everything is available on tap.

As well as Jameson welcoming a make-over, my opinion is that we should have a number of "unique" looking stations, be they platforms, 'roids, planet-side or whatever. I'm sure there are reasons why this wouldn't be feasible but it would be nice - at least in my eyes.

it is for newcomers as soon as they have money to try some ships. basically it means being able to experiment with any ship and loadout without having to chase them around because someone thought scattering them randomly across the bubble was a good idea for gameplay, or would somehow contribute with ... some .... fantastic realism? i still remember searching for a large fixed beam once and no, idiotic artificial scarcity is not more real, it's just idiotic.

so shinrarta dezhra is actually a public service to protect players from clueless game designers. it's been shinrarta dezhra hq all the way for me since i hit elite (in a vulture, still) and still will be for the foreseeable future. then again, the whole galaxy is my home so that's just convenience and habit.

Newcomers aren't ranked elite to access the system, and elite ranked pilots aren't newcomers.

yeah, that's what they have to endure until they are but, honestly, elite took me about 6 months and quite a few hours of flight in my vulture. nowadays an elite newcomer isn't a rarity at all. if one likes to try out new ships, i'd recommend hitting elite to be the first priority. well, the alternative is a lot of pointless jumping around and docking, but that can be even fun, so ...

Well you're absolutely right about that. A new player can get from sidewinder fleet carrier affordability in less than a month if they look for the right advice.

I played missions for money, just taking courrier jobs for like 2 months before i had cobra 3 then bounty hunted and did CZs for bigger faster bucks. I had no understanding of building rep with minor factions for better payouts and just took missions from whoever was at the stations my missions led me to. My brother went the route of passenger missions as soon as he had a big enough ship and the explo data he got doing that pushed her m up way faster than i went.

After that i watched d2ea and ObsidianAnt vids to get an idea of what i was doing wrong. I think the new player set up probably better explains everything but im proud to have got where i did the hard way because i feel my trial and error taught me a good amount

When I earned my first Elite rank (Exploration) money wasn't easy like now, so yes, discount was one of the reason to pick JM to my home. Second was the 'everything in one place', and third is to most of the engineers are relative close to Shinrarta. Griefers don't bothering me since I playing only in PG. Near a good CNB if I want some pew pew, I found a good Icy ring too for core mining about 35ly, so...

Agree'd i really only care to pvp in cqc but thats like a potential 24+ hours waiting for players on console. Fdev should use npc bots to fill cqc lobbies while players wait for players

@OP, My reason for choosing Jameson Memorial is simple. I can build virtually any ship at a 15% discount without needing to move around. Shinrarta Dezhra is: centrally located bubblewise (making engineering easier), a jump or two from the old worlds, aaand my base is there.

Besides, where else can I break upgrade your detailed surface scanner?
