Planetary collisions in game

Reading New Scientist today it transpires that planetary collisions (with each other, not my ship) are considered very likely, particularly in those systems with gas giants in close proximity to their star.

Got to thinking would be a an interesting system to explore in game. Maybe rare ores exposed. Maybe a more dynamic rock strewn system system to navigate. It could certainly offer interesting images in dust strewn light filtering thru debris. A rescue mission could possibly emerge if a station or mega ship caught up in the mix. Lots of potential I think

I'm guessing the time frame of "likely" here is stellar time scale.
This.

Plus anyone settling a system in the first place would 100% see this coming hundreds or thousands of years before it happens and just.. you know:

Leave.

Most likely there would only be a fraction of a fraction of a percent of systems anywhere near close to these collisions as the Milky Way is a relatively stable system having gone through its growing pains and even then we might only see this near various nebulae, but even then it would be damn rare.

Planetary collisions exist in ED, they are just as spectacular as watching grass grow. Nothing happens, just two big balls touching each other. Seen that happen before IRL :sneaky: . So I just watched it on YT and resumed my own game.

Wait one, are you saying that you have seen planetary collisions in real life, as in this life? Please tell us more :D

Hmm...

Last I had heard there are some that happen in the game now that players have found where the worlds just pass through each other. Might have just been moons though, but still...

I think planet collisions are considered bugs and those discovered in game have been fixed.
