15 ships have no variants. Which deserves the next one?

Narwhal = yes
And it should be a combat/liner with a figurative and literal tusk.
We already have it

The style of the T-7 shouts 'mining' but only having small hardpoints limits it. I'd like to see a variant with 2 medium and 1 small hardpoints. That would make it suitable for core mining or laser mining.

Technically the Cobra has a variant but it is not available to everyone and the desire is strong by many to have it. So release it. And create a COBRA MK V for the backers, I have some optimization in mind for my Cobra MK IV, muhhaaahha. :) Just kidding. Triggered anyone?

The clipper.

Of all the ships on the list it's the one I wanted to like the most but was ultimately useless to me because "large" and HP placement.

Imperial Python.
You know you want it.

Generally I'm not in favour of more 'variants' simply because pretty much every niche you can think of is already covered and I don't see it as a good use of development time creating yet more very slightly different versions of existing ships. I do like the Mamba (which is to all intents and purposes an FDL variant) but other than that, the opportunities for genuine diversity within the ship catalogue have already been pretty much fully exploited now.

That said, for someone who likes medium ships and Imperial ships, it's a bit of a shame that after the Courier the next choice is a large pad ship with limited internals and appalling hardpoint placement, especially when you consider the Clipper alongside the Python which lands on a smaller pad, has an additional class 3 hardpoint with far better convergence and 10 x optional internals. The fact the Clipper has a class 7 internal is only a bonus if you're going to use it for combat and even then you get more bang for your buck using a class 6 shield on a Python than you do using a class 7 on a Clipper. So in short, an Imperial medium pad ship would be nice.

Agreed ! We have been requesting a Clipper variant ever since it existed. You'd think FD would take the hint by now 🤷‍♂️

It's difficult to pitch a variant that doesn't make the existing version or some other ship irrelevant...
It's true with some ship, but it works fine with others. For example the Krait MK2 is my favourite ship for small hauling and core mining. The Phantom is for exploration instead.

An Anaconda that doesn't look like it fell in the exploration role by accident. So big ship with big jump, but also nice canopy (decent supercruise capabilities would be nice too, but not really needed anymore with the turret-like FSS), and maybe a really harmless look and weapons like a freighter.

The Type 7 deserves a variant. One that can land on Medium Landing Pad and got Medium Hardpoints. It would be the perfect mining variant.

It needs at least a class 2 size hardpoint also..

Would also be nice to see a Vulture variant, or something similar. With a size 4 hardpoint, perhaps 2 extra size 2 hardpoints? Some more utility mounts.
Since almost all ships have a name related to a reptile (snakes), let's call it "Natrix" (google it, it's actually a snake type).

I would prefer 1 medium and 3 smalls for a multi-miner option. I mainly mine for fun, not profit, so when I go mining I have all of the tools, even the displacement missiles. I guess even better would be a "Type-8" that is slightly wider T-7, but with Asp Explorer's hardpoints.
