It is true that some people complain about or praise most anything. In Elite this is egged on by the bitterly negative, sock-puppets, and sycophants.
Still reason and evidence helps us identify where Frontier has done a superb job and where they've failed. The visual and aural environments are spectacular. Combat is fun, so too now is core mining. The efforts (if not entirely successful) to mitigate griefing especially of noobs is praiseworthy. Even so, powerplay, the original engineers, and multicrew are examples of mechanics gone wrong.
At root this was a past problem of delivering a minimally viable product in most respects. Such efforts bespeak a culture of mediocrity at any company. This is not something I think sticks to the devs - look at the great things they've accomplished when allowed to do so. It was rather poor leadership and a lack of resources likely holding them back.
This said, and to give credit where it is due, Frontier seems to be turning over a new leaf. It began with fixing the worst of engineering. Changes to mining and exploration are welcome. And the pause on new features to quash bugs is a good turn.
So I'm cautiously hopeful for the future.
