Dear FDEV, Can we re-balance how ARX are earned

Just messing around I did 13 assassination and massacre missions ingame, total of around 35 pirate ships to kill.
I noticed that is was coming up to the weekly reset so I waited to turn the missions in until after that to let the weekly ARX reset.
I turn the missions in and log to the menu screen and got a total of 13 ARX.
I then used a material trader to shuffle engineer mats around, mostly the mats I picked up from those pirates as I had used the trader just before I started those missions.
I logged to the menu and had earnt another 80 ARX. 4 time more arx for playing a inventory management grind

I normally defend the way FDEV have handled things, but being rewarded more for a grind mechanic than actually playing the game is something I will not defend.

Gameplay needs to be a priority over grind. Reward players PLAYING the game, not a lossy grind mechanic.

I tend to agree with the balance thing though. Past days I got more arx per day than the game allows me to earn in a week. Giving away 500 arx per day every day sounds like pretty well balanced to me. They may start with this in the new year thank you very much.
Then all that will happen is the forum undead will rise from their graves to complain that they aren't getting any free Arxs because they uninstalled the game years ago - and that's not fair ;)

There are a couple of things people do that seem to earn a lot of ARX than others - not sure that nerfing them would be that popular though...

I think rewarding the act of gathering exploration data would make more intuitive sense to players than the act of selling it. As it stands the long term explorer (out for more than a week) does seem to lose out compared to those that take shorter trips.

There do seem to be a lot of people changing how they play for the sake of earning ARX though, not sure that's better than just having the occasional giveaway for logging in.

Doesn't seem right. 35 kills should be 35 arx. + up to 10 if you had 2M in bounties.
But didn't he get the arx for the kills right away when he logged off after the kills? These arx ended up in limbo because he already reached the max (or at least thats how I read it), the arx he earned were the mission reward, not for the kills.

Btw, playing for arx is bonkers, and waiting to hand in missions is exactly that. Risking to pancake your ship and loose the missions and arx, waiting to hand in exploration data with the risk of losing it all, and all because of a weekly 2 penny threshold just seems penny wise pound foolish to me. Specially since we are still playing the same game as before, but now with more free stuff. I don't get why it suddenly matters how much free stuff you get.

Frontier tells players that they can earn "up to" 400 free ARX a week, just playing the game as they normally would. Then a player puts in twenty hours in a week - which is a pretty good amount of gameplay - and ends up with about 130 ARX.

That player is not going to love Frontier the more for that experience.

Explorers are particularly hard hit. They earn very little while they're out, then when they return to civilization to sell their data - yes, that earns a lot of ARX, but only up to the 400 ARX/week cap: they either hang on to their data and sell it in dribs and drabs over the coming weeks, risking losing it in the process, or they ignore ARX and sell their data as normal, cursing Frontier's name as they do so.

It's almost like the process was designed by some saboteur on the Frontier staff who wanted to do as much damage to Frontier's reputation with the players as they could.

I do try to stick to the view that free ARX aren't worth enough to be bothered over, but I have to say I'm starting to find the whole business irritating on principle.

I agree. Sometimes I play for hours and yet earn zero Arxs. Then I go to a CG and get blown up by griefers and earn six Arx per death. If free Arx are meant to be a motivation to play the game, reward me for doing what I love, not what I hate. Otherwise I'll just continue to ignore Arx.
It's a commiseration for your untimely death

To Fdev:
Regardless of what other cmdr's choose to do, Arx should only be issued for the things I choose to do, when I choose to do them. Thus if I choose to do nothing but explore one week, Arx should be base on exploring, If I choose to do some mining one week, then Arx should be based on mining. If I choose to do some ??? next week....etc etc etc. The entire Arx system should be base entirely on my choices of play during the week.

Yeah, earning ARX doesn't seem to be balanced properly. 2 hours of mining last week gave me 1 ARX. Selling exploration data was an instant 35 ARX. They definitely need to look at adjusting how ARX are earned. Currently, the system clearly favours some play styles over others.

Might consider earning more arx while out exploring and earning less for selling exploration data...
But then there'd be the potential for people who already have a lot of data not getting as much arx for it as they would have.
So, probably not going to happen. 🧐
