Request: Bring back CGs

No one is forced to attend a CG. Anyone who feels not up to the challenge can simply stay away.
Which reminds me - how many players take part in a CG, and is focusing resources on the upcoming updates a better use of dev time?

I imagine fdev know the answer to both questions, unlike you or me.

Also, "recycling" previous CGs sounds like something that would a) require resources, and b) create copious amounts of salt.

Yes that is true, but having done a couple they were so shallow and meaningless that there mere presence was an insult to 21st centaury gaming. It lowered the reputation of Elite and what it is trying to achieve.

Interstellar Initiatives are the same as CGs. I mean, they're SUPER-the-same now, obviously. But they weren't any different from CGs back when they existed, apart from all being narratively connected to one another over the course of a month.

If a player is looking for pinch-points to asymmetrically attack strangers then engineers systems, guardian sites, Founders & Powerplay Control systems provide that.

If a player is looking for other PvP players for practice there are systems like San Tu & Founders, and player groups that provide that.

If a player is looking for massive goals to contribute to there are dozens of damaged stations still in need of repair.

I don't miss CGs at all.

All the places you mention are usually mostly empty.

I'm honestly surprised Frontier didn't find a way to have CGs generate automatically.
I mean ... they have regular missions generate automatically, why not CGs as well? They could still insert special CGs into the mix as and when required, maybe call them Interstellar Initiatives
FD should focus on the IIs, and players (squadrons) should be able to run CGs themselves.

KISS... don't need flavour text or anything, all it needs to be is:
  • Player (or Squadron) ponies up cash (minimum, say, 50m)
  • That cash gets distributed as a parallel payment when a nominated activity is conducted.
  • Could be a static, game defined amount, or a submitter-defined % (to a limit, to stop exploitation, say, 100% maximum)

So, you might say "For every bounty handed in (for a particular faction), you'll get an extra 100% from the committed pool (so, you hand in a bounty for 200k, you get 400k total, 200k from the bounty, 200k from the pool, until the pool runs out. Likewise for trade profits, exploration data etc.

Why?
  • Players could incentivise repair of damaged stations by trading particular goods
  • Players seeking to support a faction could incentivise activities at a particular station to achieve an effect (Expansion? Investment? Civil Liberty?)
  • Players could seek support for a particular faction in a conflict who they want to win (for whatever reason)
  • Players could seek to resolve a negative state such as famine, outbreak or blight by incentivising those goods
  • Simply creation of an activity for your whole group to participate in
  • Whatever roleplay you like.

As someone who always did CGs solo, I just liked the fact that "do a bunch of bulk trading this week," "now it's a combat week," "rares time for a change" etc. both gave some structure and made me mix things up a bit rather than constantly having to decide for myself.

I kind of wonder about that too but there were such things as player suggested or Christmas CG's, maybe that put FDev off?

You'd hope it would be possible to at least streamline the process internally because - while they might not be the most exciting mechanic ever, to players or devs who might even find them boring to introduce week after week - there are some pretty cool things about them (bring people into one place, stimulate ideas on how to play the game etc.). I hope that while a CG 2.0 might show up, CG 1.0 doesn't disappear entirely and might run alongside. Even if these don't include Xmas specials, even procedurally generated CG's would be worth dropping in on from time to time and credit earnings were for me at least pretty attractive in early stage of game.

A request like that won't help much.

Putting CGs and IIs on hold wasn't a design decision but a PM decision.

Its day 76 of no community goals for you.
Thats right 76 days since the last interstellar initiative ended.
76 days of reduced content for thousands of players who took part each week.

The game needs content, not reduced content. Bad decision FDEV.

Exactly!
To be honest, I've never seen a dev take features out of a game before to accomodate resources for an add on.

I liked having CGs. Sure, I'd get bored with the run-of-the-mill haul this, shoot that CG every week, so I didn't do CGs every week, but at least every week I had the OPTION to do a CG when I was in the mood. Now, we have no options at all :(
