I just discovered the Viper MKIII !

Kinda depends what you're doing - going 750+m/s and revectoring with boost, it's way more agile than the Eagle. Factor in scoop-boosting to cap speeds down at the 350-500m/s mark, it'll completely out-turn the Eagle with a good distributor. Regular thrust, no boosts tho? You're spot on - Eagle FTW.
Eagle sucks. Viper sounds far better.

Then your memory is tip top. It's woeful without engineering - 100% agree. My sympathies for the trauma. Definitely give it another look after some Palin love ;)
My preference is for the Viper IV, which can stack so much armor reinforcement. A bit slower, but a lovely little multi-role for light activity. Killing a military Viper IV in a CZ can be a real chore.

Your double-spacing after periods has made us mortal enemies.

Alas, the animosity must remain entirely yours. No enmity do I bear you for your punctuational intolerance.

I shall suffer your displeasure with a degree of relative impunity, due to the rather significant speed differences between your mk4, and my mk3. :D

Mk III is fast, but not the fastest. The Mk IV can take the abuse from many predatory ships.

Fortunately the forums automatically correct your woeful double-spacing.

This does beg the question as to how I earned enmity for double spacing that had automatically been corrected fortuitously. Thankfully, it's a mystery I am unconcerned by.

Oh, and I'll take the opportunity to correct your woeful mistake. Viper mk3 is the fastest ship in the game - excluding gravity-assisted shenanigans :)
As a result, it can pretty much ignore most predatory ships with absolute impunity.

I feel though we are hijacking the thread somewhat. The OP likes the Viper mk3 - highlighting it's finer points was kinda the point. It's a great ship indeed (and nothing out there goes faster without a planet to help).

It's visible when in the reply, as the forum takes your format-based terrorism and displays it plainly. It hides it from the innocent public.

Every small ship can pretty much avoid other ships without much trouble. I will also correct your correction - the iEagle can get up to 932, while the Viper III can only get up to a paltry 896, basically standing still.

At least this is back on-topic :)

You might want to try reducing weight further and putting drag drives on the Viper rather than the distro drive build you posted there, oddly comparing to the drag-drive iEagle. You'll find it too can indeed achieve 932, and 745 on regular thrust - handily trouncing the iEagle's 699.

Here's a couple of usable builds...given you'll need to turn at speed, and you'll need boost to do it....

iEagle
Viper

I'd also recommend flying these ships at these speeds for a while and learning how they handle/react. If you do, you'll also find the Viper accelerates massively faster, boosts more, for longer. The iEagle is just a bit...meh. Viper leaves it in the dust.

I didn't build those ships, because I don't really care about either of those ships, so I have no idea about the engineering. I took them from the highest values I could find through some reddit and forum threads.

Sanderling is correct.

The top three ships in game for max speed (not gravity assisted) are:

Viper III at 932m/s
iEagle also at 932m/s
Courier at 885m/s

However the huge boost modifier for the viper and the general boost profile make it so more responsive then the iEagle and just leaves it in it's wake.

For me however the Viper III is a great little ship but I find it a tad to limiting in what it can fit for a more multirole setting etc which is why I fly the courier as my 'fast' ship :)

OP the viper III is indeed a great little ship and I'm glad you've finally gotten to see it many hours of fun coming to you in that cockpit I think. \o/
