The Tritium Rises (Wrath of Sub-Surface Mining?)

So Tritium - the fuel for Fleet Carriers - is a gas.

It can be purchased. And it can be mined.

You see where I'm going with this? (probably to SoWrong Avenue after taking a left off WhatTheFrack Highway but hey!).

What if, the Tritium is trapped under the surface of rocks?

What if, we had some way of releasing that precious gas from its rocky prison? 🤔

What if, Sub-Surface Mining roars back into the limelight, to seize the hearts and minds of Miners? ;)

What if you have to scoop tritium from Class II gas giants?

From what I've read, that would be the most logical way to get it. But Frontier did say obtaining Tritium would require mining.....unless they've changed their minds?

It would make sense, considering that subsurface mining isn't that profitable, this would give it a use.

This has been suggested as being the possible/likely outcome by a few different people on the forums, quite a few times.

Ha, that's an interesting idea. Kinda makes sense because let's be fair, they mucked it up with the subsurface thingamy after the mining buff: there's really no reason to equip one.
I still go one of those subsurface missiles equipped because my mining Python had hardpoints to spare. So I'd be cool with Tritium being an asset that can only be acquired by subsurface mining -or just buying it as they mentioned, but I'd imagine it wouldn't come cheap. Eh, whatever, we'll probably be talking a lot more about this come thursday night.

Would make sense and give some forced popularity to sub-surface mining (I have to admit that I never tried it).

Also voving for gas giant cloud mining o/

I like subsurface mining, but it's gonna be scoopable. Where do you find hydrogen in greatest abundance? Stars.

Honestly, this could make a great mechanic. Commanders could have FCs that specialize in tritium collection and sales.

But no... you must grind for yourself padawan.

If I buy an FC it will be an Exploration variant, I definitely hope Tritium can be obtained easily because when I go out exploring I don't want to split the trip 50/50 exploring vs mining.
Thursday will give us some insight hopefully, when I need to go out mining during an exploration trip then I've lost all interest in FCs.

1T/LY (max 500) of Sub-surface mined Tritium (however they make that work, given the post above) to fuel a fleet carrier...

That could be... interesting (in the Chinese sense of the word.)

Crossing my fingers for that gas giant mining will be the way to get tritium. More variation in mining is good.

Also that we get a 'default' way to get tritium via a reactor function that can be enabled aboard the fleet carrier, which generates enough charge for one 500-LY jump in, say, 24 hours or so, meaning carriers can't get 'stuck' and removing that problem entirely.

I think we will be mining water for hydrogen to create deuterium and then tritium using a new module.

Or something along those lines. Until we can mine Gas giants from the DLC.
Oh yer and harvest it from Space whales living in the gas giants !

I wish :)

What I hope is that it's new game play! I want mining base building with a chance of dinosaurs! ;)

What better not be the case is that we have to shoot rocks in SRV's for all of it! I doubt that will be the case but ...

I think its a great idea. Its great because it will drive people to steal it rather than mine it.
