DLC Teaser Discussion

The official animals:

Jaguar
Llama
Giant Anteater
Capuchin monkey
Red eyed tree frog

4 animals + 1 exhibit
Hooray!! That’s a pretty decent mix of species, and I’m glad the exhibit animal is the red eyed tree frog, they’re gorgeous. We’ll certainly get more South American species in the future, and these five are each amazing additions!

Giant anteater was one of my top wish list animals so I’m pretty pleased. Would have liked a capybara too but you can’t have everything.
Same here. Giant anteater was something I really wanted if they were going with a South American DLC.

And the jaguar was a very highly requested animal from the start I'm glad those people have their favorites.

After this DLC we already have the theme for it :D, so hopefully another DLC in the future - with just animals - will fit perfectly.

I'm happy with the animals included but worried, that we'll only have a very limited rooster of animals if it will always be just 4 habitat animals in each pack. As I said, I'm willing to pay more for more variety. But only four slots each time is like getting only a spoon full of your favorite food each time.

I am also in the giant anteater club. That and a jaguar was also in my top 5 animals, so I am overall very pleased. Would also love capybara, but it is true that they might still add them in any future update/dlc, you never know. I am glad Frontier is able to release the dlc in these times, because work is more complicated for everyone so I understand the missing scenarios, which are at least compensated by additional building pieces and terrarium animal.

Do we think they might be adding small, themed packs following a schedule, to “flesh out” the game a bit before adding species at random? I’ve got my fingers crossed that we’ll get something of a world tour for a while, with small packs of animals from each continent (I know “Arctic” isn’t a continent, but...). Then there’ll be random species added in bigger packs. A girl can dream.

My guess (!) would be a round of DLC's focused on themes.. After that additional animal DLC which fit in those themes. (so without the building pieces, because they were in the first dlc)
Another guess would be: this kind of DLC will be the standard and just randomly a DLC pops up with just animals.

I hope you are right. Otherwise we would be done with the beauty of south american animals with just these four / five animals. Dddn't bother me too much with the arctic pack, as I was only missing out on the fox, but this time it would be a little sadder for me.

I can definitely see them taking this approach. Though I don't think the animals would be "random" so much as fitting into a specific theme/type of animal (for example: small cats, new world monkeys, rodents, wetlands, rainforest, woodlands).

That would really help to flesh things out, I think. For example: A small cats pack could include a lynx or bobcat of some sort (North America or Europe), ocelot (South America), serval (Africa), Pallas' cat (Asia), and/or jaguarundi (South America).

To be honest, I am completely fine with the DLC packs being the size that they are so long as the game is given substantive support for the next few years so that we get more variety of fauna and flora. I think the value is there in terms of what you get... I just find myself really craving more animals (and enrichment items) above building pieces.

Exactly this. The price point for what we get is absolutely fine, as I'm not forgetting that building pieces are their money worth, too.

I'm just worrying that the life span of this game and its dlc isn't long enough to get a good amount of animals when we just get 4 each time. DLCs like you mentioned, with small cats, new world monkeys etc. would ease my a bit. But currently with the continent theme we are just done with dlcs rather soon.

I don't know. Maybe I'm just too pesimistic and have a bad day.

Get some coffee. It works well for the soul. Try to think something NOT depressing, like the corona pandemic.

I hate coffee :D But thank you. Rough times for a freelancer these days. I was quite sure the DLC would get me hyped more. I can't even put my finger on why it doesn't after the trailer, as it did before. Three animalsI like really much, more than with the Arctic Pack. Still, endorphines don't kick in yet. Maybe because we can now assume a DLC pattern.

Pretty much what I feel too. I just hope we'll get more South American animals in the future, either in a South America v2.0 DLC or Random Animals DLC.

I have no idea how long it takes to take an animal from scratch and get it ready for release. I suspect, but could be entirely wrong again, that time was put aside to fix bugs/improve the game in the months after release. Which is exactly what has been happening.

I assume there is some cross over of staff doing this that would be needed on DLC also. Does it mean this is set in stone going forward for DLC size, who knows.

I am pleased with this DLC so far and will see more when we know exactly what is released in it. Would I always want more, probably yes. Should I expect more, maybe in the future which I am sure we will get.

Ask yourself, would you have sacrificed the last 2 patches and the one coming up for a DLC double in size and quantity. I don't think I would. Also there is a bit of a virus going around which is probably affecting productivity as well to some extent.

So what energizing drink do you like?

On a more serious note, Good luck on your job, whatever it is...
